Once when we went in for a burner the guy at HN tried to sell us ...
a new CD Rom (saying something about speed of the CD Rom - but we already had a brand new 52x cd with the comp and only one slot for a CD so the burner would be the only CD Rom thing in the system)
Then he tried to sell us a DVD drive, and then more expensive better burners and finally told us a DVD burner would be a good buy &(
Then when we said we'll think about it he moved onto computer steering wheels (which i had brought from them like 1 and a half weeks before anyway &( )

Got my V8 Challenge and I must say this game ROCKS!!!! :hat:-^
Excellent game engine, despite all of our fears, it is true to life (tap n' spin) handling.
The sound is freaking awesome, the video excellent, landscape doesn't repeat textures (example trees) like other popular games do. Plenty of different shaped gum trees. :)
Full video options on a GeForce 2 MX400 in a 1Ghz AMD and it doesn't miss a beat, except a slight pause when taking screenshots.
Man, E.A. SPORTS has done us Aussies proud!!! :hat:-^-^-^-^-^
On the downside: 25 lap limit for Bathurst (although that still is a long time), and only 14 cars per race (you & 13 opponents).

do the cars stall? like in racer 0.5?

I haven't played it long enough to answer that yet but many times they tend to brake too heavily and I collide into their tailgates. :D
I think every race start I have had there have been crashes ahead on the grid or first corner). Then when I skid into them I am black-flagged for it. :(
But like I mentioned on the main forum here, that "rules" function is toggled on/off in the game menu.
MattB
05-11-2002, 05:55 AM
most games that have 'rules' normally get it all wrong.
TOCA2's rule system is pretti crap.
it must be hard to get it right in the coding, i guess:rolleyes:

Just a note, EA SPORTS Australia is only the publisher of this game, not the developer. It was developed by DICE, a swedish company which also made Rally Masters and a very (to say the least) similar game series called STCC and STCC2 (Swedish touring car championship). Which brings me to the real subject of my post.
This game is just (well, almost anyway) STCC2 with new cars and tracks. Some of the sound effects are also taken from Rally Masters. The engine sounds lacks detail and the graphics would have impressed me about a year ago. The whole game feels like it's made of recycled parts from dice's earlier releases, and as we all know, this is a fast moving market, things get pretty antique pretty fast in the gaming industry. That's the facts. Over to my opinions, and to sum it up, I can only add that the AI is very stupid, for example, during every start the AI cars just wobble from left to right for no reason, no matter if there's a car trying to pass or not. Looks hilarious on replay though.. :)
Anyway, this is some facts, and also some of my own opionons. Everyone's entitled to their own opionion, but I guess there's a reason why this game isn't going international. Just don't expect too much of this game, it will only make you dissappointed.

Fair call, we all have our opinions.
And yes it is a fast moving industry. I never bought STCC or STCC2 although I had already been told that Dice used the same menu setup.
Perhaps you can afford to buy (or obtain) every game as it's released but it's the first car racing game I've bought since PU (I think) except for bargain bin specials (my second copy of HS and some others). I do have a large collection racing/rally sims that where great in their time and I never was so excited about any of those (new) as I am about V8 Challenge. From "The Need For Speed" (when new) onwards, nothing else has had such an impact on me.
I am also using a keyboard after having my ol' trusty steering wheel for 5-6 years. But it does definately out-shines all racing games I have played.

good worrk acca, it helps to get a down to earth view of the game other than getting those idiots in the V8 challenge forum who want details which aren't even possible
just regarding that last post time of yours, either its a really good game and can't get off it or you are nocturnal^_^
