What is the difference between communism and socialism?

Socialism is the bridge between the present and a better future. We can't vote in communism because you cannot vote in the end of suffering or fix all the wrongs that have been done over centuries by ticking a box. We have to work at it and that can take decades, even centuries, then maybe we can call ourselves Communist. We live still in Nation states that all want their own people/economies to compete with other people/economies. This often means war, repression, ignorance and suffering.

Capitalism has done wonders in science and technology and some benefit immensely from it. However the majority of people on the planet do not benefit from it. In fact most suffer because of it.

The only way to change this is by a federal world socialist alliance based on democracy. Co-operation rather than competition of all Nations united under a federal Earth flag. Not the UN but something much bigger and with real integrity to unite all peoples under one flag.

This is the only way to save the Earth and repair the damage left by Capitalism. Nothing would be impossible under a democratic Earth Alliance of all Nations, no Nation better than any other Nation. Poeple don't want war only politicians and some businesses want war.

Sharing resources and knowledge equally and disarming all Nations would free resources for the new world alliance, the funds better spent on people and the planet rather than war or defense.

Small and medium sized bussinesses will always exist and should be allowed to exist. However, democracy must rule and large bussinesses built by the labour of thousands and the funds of millions should be under the democratic control of the workforce.

Banks should be similarly publically owned and should be run ethically and the books should be open to scrutiny.

The stock market and shares should be abolished. Co-operative wealth in banks should be used only for the people and businesses and projects that help the people.

Personal wealth should be limited to reasonable amounts to protect democracy. Too much wealth in the hands of individuals guarantees egotism and crime against democracy.

There should be a limit also on poverty. Those that do not or cannot work for whatever reason should get the basics to survive. But those that want to work or improve themselves should have more than the average living wage.

Representatives of the people and communities should be paid the National average wage and should be accountable to
the constituents at all times. Being a representative should not be a privileged way of life.

Movement of people throughout the world should be a right. No borders.

Prisons should be run justly and humanely. The death penalty where it exists should be abolished.

Volunteers of workers should help the struggling countries to develope and give aid in finding water and other deficiences in order that the local people can help themselves through co-operation. Reclaiming deserts and other disaster zones should be a priority and schools and universities should be founded as well as businesses to help the local economy.

All religions should be enshrined in the constitution but should be kept seperate from the state and no-one should be forced to worship any religion. It should be a matter of concience alone.

This is the PATH to Communism.

This will end crime, hunger, ignorance, war, destruction of the planet, cruelty to animals and cruelty to people. Who knows? By the end of the century under these rules, we may get to communism, Star trek style...:)

You have introduced big topics lately and I havent had time for a lengthy reply.:)

I am trying to understand the beliefs presented here, so I've got a few questions:

Personal wealth should be limited to reasonable amounts to protect democracy. Too much wealth in the hands of individuals guarantees egotism and crime against democracy.

In order to make a serious attempt at this, someone has to decide what reasonable amount and Too much is. How would this be decided?

Those that do not or cannot work for whatever reason should get the basics to survive.

The "cannot work" is makes sense, but who falls into the "do not work" category?

For what is reasonable or too much? I think public debate would come to a conclusion. I think savings in the range of millions would definately be out of the question. Say, earning ten times the average wage was the agreed top end of the scale, then they would have to save a very long time even to save the equivalent to say a million dollars. Capital of that amount can buy votes and power and encourage criminal behaviour. It is power over the honest working citizen on an average or even above average living wage. He or she cannot compete against it. Justifying how they EARNED it by their own labour would be difficult.

People who don't work are a pretty diverse group. Children, the old, artists such as poets and other arts, those that haven't yet made anything but are in the process of making something artistic or thinking about it, single mothers or carers of sick family or friends, the depressed or suffering from a mental disorder. Those that won't work on political grounds such as some of the old ruling classes. There are more catagories and all are valid in my opinion for support and sustinance.

Kyzr, all of you, try to get out of the rut. Believe me I was once in it too. A long time ago.

Power comes through wealth, not democracy. The people are always the losers.

We can make (vast) wealth as the lower classes in very few ways, doing the lottery (the numbers game made legal) or through creating something like music or something artistic and earning vast amounts through sales. Artists, historically, rarely get anything like the obscene amounts seen today due to mass media. Mass media and hysteria being the object and rarely justifying the obsenity. However the producers usually get more.. They actually own the artists.

So, is 'art' made for money? Do artists, for instance, only do it for the money? If so, it isn't art. It's a business. If you love something then money is not the obective. It is to get your art out there to the people. Once you seperate yourself from reality and the people your art is no longer art but a means to an end.

Making millions on the stock markets is not work and does not create wealth, it is gambeling with other peoples' money. hard earned real money. When things 'seem good' it looks good. Now we see the reality. Our money, our wealth, our hard work deserves better governance and a better society. Walk with gangsters and spivs and kiss goodbye to your future.

Pronunciation: \ˈspiv\
Function: noun
Etymology: alteration of English dialect spiff flashy dresser, from spiff dandified
Date: circa 1934
1British : a man who lives by his wits without regular employment
2British : slacker 1

Are you working weekends old mate? I am. In fact I work too fecking hard, to the detriment of my health, I need a hot bath! On top of that I represent my department on the democracy principle and I must admit I am shattered, completely fecking knackererd. But I am here to debate and asnwer questions. i seem to lack feedback.

So, it is probably impossible to overcome the present regime. I admit that. Unless revolution breaks out somewhere soon, then we are doomed, the planet and the people. It takes a spark to break into fire. Without that spark we can kiss our future goodbye. But it is your children and grandchildren who will suffer, not mine. I decided not to breed under this system a long time ago.

Thoughts about your country, the USA.. You are universally despised. Why? Well, from Mexico/Texas/history to the present day, the USA has lied and been a problem for the world. proclaining leadership but in reality being the bully. Afraid now, apparently of one man, a man who says he is innocent. Boy! WHAT A NATION YOU ARE. A nation of fools led by donkeys... Adios. ;)

Oh, i forgot the mass slaughter of the original Americans. How could I do that? Get the picture of your GREAT COUNTY? But money came first, right?

I am a Mackintosh, we fought the English for over 700 years. our clan gave more blood for Scotland than any other in the history of our nation. I know about repression, because it is in my blood and my heritage. Scotland wanted freedom and fought for it. we never forgot and seek it still, that thing called freedom.
