I Just Started Using LightWave 7.0 And I Made A Few Objects, Nothing Big But I Think Im On The Right Track. My Question Is: I Want To Make A 1999 Civic Si-R, A Realistic One, And From The Previews I've Seen On This Board It Looks Like Everyone Imports Their Pics Into Their Modeler And Then Starts Modeling Directly On To The Pic...HOW DO I DO I IMPORT THE PICS INTO THE MODELER?

Now For The Pics Part...I'm Going To Start A Site, Called Lanzi Racing. Now I've Made A Few Backgrounds...Which One Is The Best???

Well, I can't help you much with Lightwave 7.0.. (I find it somewhat amusing that Lightwave uses 2 separate programs, one for modelling, and, one for animating)..

But, I think their was someone here who did use lightwave (NFS Bolide it may have been).

Thanx Anyway. I'm Pretty Sure I Can Get Help Here Because When I Was Thinking Of Which Prog To Get For Modeling I Remembered A Certain Someone From This Board Who Was Making An Awesome FnF Eclipse, With Lightwave But Later Canceled it. (Sneeze, Fivespeed, Cough, Clear Throat)

Actually, I finished and released all the eclipses a while ago.

You can get them all here http://rc.racerplanet.com/nfs4cars.php?mode=id

run modeler.exe
1_click "display" tab on the top of screen.
2_click "view option" tab on the left menu.
3_click "backdrop" tab in the view option window.

TL, TR, BL and BR button select Top Left, Top Right, Back Left.... windows.
you can import a bitmap in each view. Tune position, size, luminosity, contrast.
buttons with number with number increase or decrease the compression on the picture
(useful for low memory video board).

You can save your config to re-use it later.

Thanx Alot Bolide  Do You Guys Have Any Other Modeling Tips That You Think Would Be Useful?

little button on the top left are layers.
try to use "knife"
select a polygon and use "bevel" and you will see the light.

Sometime, 3ds export tools don't work with carcad or zmodeler with release 7 (I use my old release Lightwave 5). Check it first. You can download 3D Exploration demo (use copernic to find it). This software can translate 90% of 3D files. It's a very good help.

Sorry To Be Such A Curious Ball Breaker But I Cant Get The BMP's To Load In The Back...

This mean you didn't install all plugins with the default install.
You must use "add plugins" in the tab "Modeler -> plugins"
You will find all of them in the folder Lightwave3D_7.0/plugins/Input-Output. Add every format you need bmp, jpg,tga,avi,mov....

In Lightwave you have a little program with a lot of plugins to make liquid, fiber, radiosity .... It's the reason why lightwave 4 users aren't lost in lightwave 7.

Got That, This Might Be My Last Question Sorry For The Ball Busting > Is There Anyway I Can Duplicate A Side Because I Made One Side Of The Rear Nearly Perfect, And The Other Side Always Comes Out Like Crap! How Can I (If Possible) Duplicate The Good Side And Paste It To The Shit Side?

Heh I'm just getting the hang of Lightwave 7 myself. So far i've been modeling entirely by creating the points and polies by hand. I know there is an easier way using Splines or whatever but I haven't experimented with them yet. Any suggestions? How do you make your cars NFS Bolide?

No, I Havent Used That Tool Yet. I've Just Been Making Simple Objects And Texturizing Them, Like Spheres, Rectangles...

I Made A Six Spoke Rims With Lo Pro Tires...But Havent Texturized Them Yet...

Paco, the tools is 'mirror' in 'multiply' menu. You suppress the polygons of the wrong side.
You can select every point in the middle of the car (the jonction betwen the two side), click 'detail' tab and 'set value' button on the left.
select 'X' and enter '0'. Now every point are on the same plan. Use 'mirror',but before right clicking to execute it press 'n'. You will find numeric window.
You will check if 'x' coordinate is exactely 0 or not and modify it. If you valid 'merge' point, the two side will be automatically welded.

Viperman, spline, nurbs, metanurbs are very powerfull tools. They are useful to build organic object. But I think it generate too many polygones.
When I make a car, I make it in his globality. I start with a box with 4 or 5 segment on X and Y axe, and 7 or 8 on axe. I work on a right side.
I adjust blueprint, and 'drag' the point to create a good outline of the car. After I use 'knife', or 'add point' to refine curved. If there are too many face,
I hide them with '-' and I show them with '\'. I work like a stone-cutter. If you press 'w', you will see every statistics, and in 'polyone' and 'point' mode.

Delete every 'two-point' polygone, and use 'triple' before exporting 3ds format.

Ah, so you use the box modelling technique..

I prefer the Spline method (I find it very fast; though probably because I've gotten used to it).

Sometimes I use "box-modelling" method, but, only for simple objects.. Though, if I have to do a logo in 3d, then, I'll usually save it as an *.ai file and import it into 3dsmax, and extrude it, and then start modifying it, or adding effects/animations.
