Emergency decent of 20,000ft as well. They were quite lucky - that's a huge hole in the side of the plane. :eek:

It's VH-OJK, an RR engined B747-400. The BBC link above has onboard video of the landing (and flight at 10,000ft)

Now I remember why this plane seemed familiar - it was the one that was grounded a while back when they did the interior refit. I seem to remember there was quite a big media circus over corrosion issues.

I didn't realise that VH-OJK was 17 years old though..

Exploding crew oxygen tanks now considered the cause of this decompression. But how they managed to explode is still a mystery.
