View Full Version : Are the Drive-Ins broken?

I didn't see anyone here mention that the Drive-thru custom challenges thingy was broken. What a piece of crap. Besides it being impossible to tell who if anyone has raced your race, the ones that you have won are difficult if not impossible to track. Who thought up the interface? Helen Keller's descendants?

You know I enjoyed going through the Single Player stuff, but the whole multiplayer part really leaves a lot to be desired. It's sad because it seems that they had a good idea, but their implementation sucked.

Here's my list of things I wish they would fix in MP:

1) Make it easier to find, chat with and race people you know.
2) At least attempt to block the cheaters.
3) If you are going to have people upload their own custom challenges, make an interface that works.
4) If you are going to make clubs, make them worth at least a fart or two. Totally worthless.
5) Same with "friends" and tracking them. Worthless.

So now I've spent about a buck (that's US$1) per hour of gametime, but thanks Atari for the half-baked MP. Nice idea, it was fun to drive around Oahu and test drive all these cars, but I am going to have to give you a final score of 5 out of 10. I don't regret buying it, and I recommended it before but now... buy it only if you care nothing for my list above.

Well I saw you going from drive-in to drive-in but never saw you so the friend tracking works, there's just no way to give notice that other friends are online if they're racing N/A.

Clubs do indeed seem to be a bit useless except for making club member only races but 350 big smackers is a high cost for that!

I was only told someone broke my one drive-in challenge and that was with a time 1/3 of what I set as reference (cheat) so I'll never get 100% in that game and I don't really care either. All I got left in that game is to maybe race and talk with some of you guys but I can't never find you (no way to inform friends that you're online as noted above). But even if you met some new friends then you can't put them on the list since the arrow keys for the menu don't work!

The patch that's suposed to be out this month will adress cheaters but no idea if it'll work, especially since as noted most info is stored on the player's own computer and is therefore easy to manipulate.

But they'll probably never fix the bugs, either due to lack of resources or because it'll be too difficult due to the way the game is made. Maybe that'll make it easier to part with my G25 wheel (I need to sell it to get some more to cover the loss we suffered from waiting for my mom's handicap car, besides my knees and ancles still can't stand that pedal-angle and geometry vs a real car's and the razor-thin wheel isn't nice either when gripping to hold a car steady at 350+ kph on bumpy roads).

Sigh, great, another ruined savegame for me. I can't remember the last time I zipped up my game folder but I'm seriously getting tired of this game fast.

Atari Germany posted the 16th that the patch release for may is confirmed and to watch the forums the next week for news. But I'm sure I'm even going to keep it on my harddrive. With all the sp things done and no interest in just jumping into random games and no-one here racing then there's no fun left in the game.
