View Full Version : DVD-drive locked when booting with the TDU-disc in?

I've tried this several times now so I'm going to ask if I'm in the only one with this problem. When I boot my computer with the TDU-disc in my DVD-R/W drive then the computer starts with the activity-light on and some click-sounds from the drive and it stays like that even when Windows is loaded and then I can't access the drive at all in Explorer, it doesn't even list the disc-name in the menu, it lists the drive-name like there was no disc in it, and if I click the drive then Explorer stops responding and windows is just a background with no menus or icons so I have to re-boot. Is that SecuROM doing it's busines? If it is then I'll seriously re-consider installing it on my new harddisk (together with LEGO Star Wars that also has that software).

I don't have any problems with the TDU CD...

Ok that's always something. The drive works when I insert it after windows has booted. Maybe it's due to the missing boot.ini or something else not related to SecuROM, at least that's what I hope for. I've got a new larger harddrive ordered and I'll use that to make a fresh install and keep the old harddrive as back-up until I get the new install fully set-up, I hope that'll do the trick since a lot of programs have failed to un-install etc. in the year I've had this windows-install running.
Thanks for the help

When you restart your computer, press "AND HOLD" the DVD drive's eject button - it will eventually open and you can then remove the DVD / CD!

Thanks however I could get it out once I reset the computer, I just thought it weird it kept reading and clicking and wouldn't let explorer read it sometimes. It works ok when I boot without it in the drive.

Could be a firmware issue with the drive, and that disc causes it to screw up (not read the disc).
I'm convinced that some copy-protection mechanisms actually damage the drive.
Best regards,
Robin.
