Hello girls and boys,
I just wanted to share this photo I took with my Canon S2IS.
Camera was on Manual, Shutter Speed 1/200, F/5.6, 12x zoom (no tripod).
I only did some cropping before posting it.
Any comments will be very welcome!

Hey, we have a lot of those types of birds here. :)
There is some low noise in the background but you got the focus just right on the bird. Can't do that on auto with all the branches in the way. And considering the high zoom level, the sharpness of the target amazes me - must be some sort of image stabilizer in play.. :) fast shutter though.. May I ask you what ISO level were you using with that camera in that shot?
Thank you for sharing.

Hey Chaul!
I didn't use manual focus here. But the camera was in "Manual" mode for all the other settings. I think the noise appeared after I saved the file in photoshop after cropping the image, because I don't see it in the original file. Maybe a little... I just didn't want to post a huge file.
I always use iso 50 when I can, even indoors. Outdoors during the day - always iso 50! :)
This camera has Image Stabilization, and I always use it. I don't see why I wouldn't want to.
I also shot a 20-second video of a similar bird, and I love it. Too bad it's too big and I can't share it...
Thanks for the comments! :D

Oh, you didn't use manual focus? Lol, nice, I stand corrected then.
Nothing wrong with image stabilizers. I was just thrilled seeing it working since I've been dreaming of getting one of those high zoom cameras myself. :)
I've shot a few videos at outdoor concerts etc but the camera limits the length to 30 seconds. Then I tried it at a lower resolution which allows longer videos but then the camera disables zoom, lol. And it too has inefficient video compression... They just want me to buy a real video camera, don't they. I could recompress the video to one tenth at a semi-reasonable quality after all. :p

Those cameras are very fine. Great shot too. :)
And you've chosen the correct brand of camera too ;)
That's where I've been hanging out for the last year

I know what u meant about IS, I was just thinking loudly (typingly?). :D
And about the video in the Canon S2IS, it allows you to zoom while shooting video, and also to shoot still photos while shooting video. The maximum recording capacity is 1 GB (even if ur memory card's capacity is more than 1 GB). On the highest quality settings for picture (640x480 , 30fps) and sound (stereo, 44.100 KHz), you get a little over 8 minutes of video. On the lowest settings (320x240 , 15fps, mono, 11.000 KHz) - about 38-39 minutes. I always shoot on maximum settings (I want everything to be perfect  ), so I got a Sandisk 1GB Ultra II, as it's the perfect match for this camera. Faster cards are too fast for the camera, so I'd be paying for something I don't need, and slower cards won't let me shoot movies flawlessly, and will be slower at reading/writing.
And Chaul, I never had a video camera before, but I saw some posts here (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/) stating that the video quality on the S2 is superior to the one on some "specialized" video cams. So think about it. :) And the S2 is cheaper now, because the S3IS is either out or will be soon available on the market.
I waited for years to get a digicam but couldn't afford it, and I really think that the S2 was worth the wait (about 10 years!!!) for me!
Wazza, thx for the compliment! :)
And I'll check that link.
