I did some testing with the BMW M3 GTR and fully souped up Porsche Carerra GT both online with peformance matching on, and offline which is peformance matching off. In the case of the BMW M3 GTR, online and offline peformance and lap times are about the same, maybe just a tad faster and more oversteery online, but less than 1% faster based on my lap times. The Porsce Carerra GT I tested has all ultimate and junkman parts installed, plus I set height all the way left, aerodynamics and turbo all the way right. The Carerra GT is severely penalized online, less power, less grip, and more loss of speed while cornering (probably because you have to steer more to make up for less grip). The result is when online with performance matching on, the BMW M3 GTR is faster than the detuned Carerra GT. With peformance matching off, or when offline, the Carerra GT blows the doors off the BMW M3 GTR. To test this, I did a (standting start) single lap race offline at Country Club with the BMW M3 GTR and the Porsche Carrera GT. I got a 2:07.39 in the BMW M3 GTR, and a 1:57.64 in the Porsche Carerra GT with some NOS left over, 9 seconds faster than the BMW M3 GTR. I made videos of these runs:

BMW M3 GTR - standing start lap at Country Club - 2:07.39

Porsce Carerra GT - standing start lap at Country Club - 1:57.64

I hacked a BMW M3 GTR, adding 6/7 uniques to it (all but turbo charger, as this crashes the game).

Yeah performance matching isn't very helpfull online if you ask me, I'd prefer the PU system of car classes with a couple of usefull choices to be made based on which track you're racing, to see which car is better.

Wow! Those graphics are simply stunning and the driving lines are perfect!

Someday I may be able to be half as good as you and perhaps I'll have good enough of a system to get the graphics capabilities as well.

Thanks for sharing this with us. :)

The M3's engine is also very sleepy at low RPM, the V8 much prefers 6000-7500rpm rev range. (EA simulated the 4.0L engine, though in real life a 5.0L version exists as well - with similar power, but a less peaky delivery)

The CGT doesn't act like that. (even though the real car is really peaky with peak power at 8200rpm - and a rev-limit at 8400, and peak torque at nearly 6000rpm).

But we know in real life the tables would be reversed and the M3 GTR race-car will blow the doors off the road-going Porsche simply through superior cornering speed and grip from slick tyres.

Since it's slower, you're flat out more often, which takes away from the game.

You go through a career mode to unlock faster cars, then you can't use them online (like the NFS cars in NFS6:Hot Pursuit 2). Personally, I wish they just didn't have the peformance matching feature at all. Players can either download a savegame or complete career mode themselves to get the fastest car(s). Most simulation games don't even bother with a career mode.

I updated the Porche video and added a hacked BMW M3 video to the original post in this thread. The Porsche is still faster, but not by as much.

how did u hack the M3??!! and again, some legendary times which i cant even come close to, even without a standing start!!
