I just need to say that I despise the drag races with all of the energy that is in me.

I have used the auto transmission on this game, and the game defaults to manual for those races, which is awkward. Also, the "locked in the lane" feature does not work so well with my joystick, which does not respond so well to lane change inputs.

I hated the drag races more in UG, but I still intensely dislike them in MW. I avoided all the drag races except the 2 or 3 that I had to do for the List challenges. Speaking of which, can someone tell me if I have to do another one before I finish? I have not played since... December or whenever I posted that "skipped #3" thread, but I still have to beat #2 and so on. It is hard to find the motivation to go on...

Anyway, don't want to hijack the thread. Just wanted to say that I agree, although since the traffic is scripted, I find them easier than UG. There was something about UG's that just pissed me off. I know they were mostly scripted too, so I can't remember what the detail was that annoyed me so. Maybe something about the AI competition, there being more of them and all being stupid?

I actually liked UG2's drag racing better than MW. The traffic seems to be heavier in MW than in UG2. (though it's been probably six months since I last played UG2, so....) But yeah, drag racing sucks in both.

Hmph, this now makes three generations on NFS that we've been screaming at EA to ditch the lane lock feature. The drag racing mode would be great if it weren't for that !@#*ing lane lock.

Mysh - amongst the regular races, there is one drag race each for Blacklist #2 & #3. Blacklist #1 doesn't have any drag races. So you shouldn't have to do any more drag races, or at least not any in order to challenge the Blacklisters. However, I can't remember what the races against the Blacklisters were. Seems like one of the Blacklisters had to be defeated in a drag race, but I don't remember which...

I really can't stand the drag races either, in fact I think it's an excellent way to show why street-racing on unclosed roads (i.e. illegal) shouldn't be done since traffic can come up just like that, and in real life you don't know how they'll react either btw. And I'm sorry to say, iirc then 1 of the 5 races with Razor is a drag race and there is crossing and hidden traffic, and the car-transporters looses the cars just before you arrive so it's standing still, further necessitating fast responses, which usually means more than one fast tap on the arrow keys before it actually changes lanes so no help by using keyboard here either! Really dumb, but of course that's universally agreed upon I can see.

Btw I used a top-tuned Carrera GT with low drag and high-end turbo and nitrous for the races. You sadly need a spoiler to adjust aerodynamics but one of the last ones did resembled the 911 GT1 Evo street-models spoiler so it wasn't that bad.

It was the one with the Viper IIRC. And I still hate the drag-races! The lane lock feature and the totally ridiculous way it sometimes seems to not fully change lanes properly just makes it totally awkward, even for keyboard users.

We've been screaming at EA to ditch the lane lock feature now for ages.

Now Electronic Arts - why is it still there?

If you remove the lane lock feature, then the race is really just a sprint, which would make me happy.

In a drag race (reaching back to my teenage years) its all about proving that your car is faster. That always meant remove outside influences by finding a straight flat quiet stretch of road to let the cars run free. The outcome is more influenced by the power of the car and its ability to get the power to the pavement. A bad launch or a missed shift comes into play, but if I ever won against a guy because of a missed shift, it was an empty victory, because it did not prove that my car was faster (reaching back again:D ), and we'd usually run again.

Because the game is not programmed to be realistic from a speed/power/tuning perspective none of the proper variables come into play in a drag race, so they have to invent other variables - like the lane lock and traffic - to make it seem like more of a competition.

Yeah drag racing is a bit annoying for sure. I think most of us PC guys hate it, but some of the console guys might like it.

i hate the drags in MW with a passion, i thought drag was meant to b either 400 yard or 1 mile sprint along a straight line, whereas the drags in MW seem to go around every corner in the bloody game

fortunately, the traffic is always in the same place in each drag track, so u can work out a route, and with speedbreaker, theyre very doable

yeah.... speedbreaker is the cooler (of the burning blood of course)
