works great so far IMO, also a shadow-uptade is ready (will decrease fps 10-15..!)

I found it at gtr4u.de

Yes I tried it, but it does too much look like the GPL version from 10 years ago.

I prefer the LeMans Beta, its trully fun to go flat out with these old bangers

Have you tried Mount Panorama AKA Bathurst, great addon track.

I haven't done any virtual racing at all the last 14 days because of moving and furnituring the new home + the large amount of snow falled last week (I work with cleaning it away).

But now I'm soon ready to race again so Bathurst is welcome if it's good (hopefully not to much fps jumpy as earlier versions).

I have seen on RSC forums that the Bathurst track is highly inaccurate (the Aussies are furious ;) ) but it sure is fun to drive

Hey guys GTL just came out in the US (some places imported it before), so I happened to see it today and bought it. Miraculously it runs well on my computer... I thought it wouldn't because the demo restarted my computer when first loading the game.

I only did some laps around Anderstorp in the Mini in quick race, to get a feel for it. I was happy to get it to slide a bit, felt kinda like a cross between GTR and GPL :) I barely broke the minute mark, don't know how good that is without tweaking the car.

Anyway once I start a career and get a clue about how to drive decently, I'll be around.

I just found gtl.gplrank.info so I can see what kind of lap times people are doing. I uploaded my 59.99x lap so now I'm number 118 woo hoo! I am sure no one really drives the car much after the beginning.

Chaul, if you read this, are you playing GTL and using GTL Rank under Tuukka? I happened to see your name a few spots above mine in that one rank. Hopefully it is.

How about you two (Fez and Fiatlove)?

Hey welcome Mysh

They fixed something with Starforce (insert any profanity you like here) in the patch I think.

59:99 Thats not a bad time, I did not manage to get sub 1min IIRC. The problem also is that Anderstorp is the one least favorite track for me, and I also dont like the Mini that much :D

On GTL Rank I run as my alter-ego "Kinski". Mostly just the old cars, and I try to set them up for drivability not just fastlaps.

Now that I figured out some of the miracles of car setup I am going to try that Mini at Anderstorp again ^_^

EDIT: Ok just figured out that I cannot drive the Mini fast and that I cannot get a single clean lap at Anderstorp. Also all the things I figured out how to make a RWD car handle does not work for the Mini ;)

EDIT #2: Just found out that I was driving the other Anderstorp ;)
So I went out again and annihilated your time (on a far from perfect run) :jump:

I don't think my time is good, but at least I know I am only 3 seconds behind the best times. I see you did a 59.291, that gives me a time to shoot for before I start my career. I added you as a buddy Fez... one of the things that kept me so interested in GPL for so long was GPL Rank. The other was Paul's (WC Sting) GPL race league (Dixie Runners), but as soon as the latter ended, my GPL experience ended as well. :(

I haven't read much about the GTL online experience... then again I haven't looked yet. Any comments on that?

I know that my time was not that good but I have no time to play around with the Mini. At least it gave me a chance to check out the excellent GULF Mini Skin I found at http://www.gtr4u.de/jgs_db.php?action=showkat&katid=37&sid=

ATM I try to tame the Cobra, it drives like on ice ^_^
Man I love this game

Cannot say much about Online. I only tried it one night.
There are either full pros that expect nothing but perfection and when you brake too late and touch them or when you spin they will kick you off the server.
And there are other pits with crashkids that only run the fastest cars that they spin every corner but because of the fast car they will catch you again and run you off the road.

I would not mind a friendly Racerplanet GTL League :D

I went ahead and started my career, but the Mini races were pretty easy. I thought I would do the career to unlock everything, and by going through it I would get good enough that I wouldn't feel uncomfortable going online. It would also be a good way to make sure that I race every car and track, instead of just learning the cars and tracks I like most. Now I am wondering if I should just do the cheat to unlock everything.

A Racerplanet league would be fun, if we could get enough people and manage to organize times that people could race. However, from experience it was hard enough to get people in the same time zone to show up for races regularly... it was awesome when we had a 20 people show up who were clean racers, courteous (let people lapping you pass), and everyone knows each other and how each person drives. And we ran Pro Long races, which required a lot of concentration, because collisions, crashes and shifting mistakes ended the race for you and anyone else you might take out.

I had a hard time making all the races because of work. For instance, I made almost every race for two seasons, but I never ran the Ring because I think 3 or 4 times the race happened when I wasn't home.

I wonder if we should make a more dedicated GTL forum here? I don't know how many people here play GTL... I've seen a few comments, but it does not seem to be a lot. Even the bread-and-butter of Total NFS, which is currently NFS:MW, is not that active, so I doubt a GTL forum would be active enough to need its own place. Do you guys post at RSC?

I'm off to try to learn the Lotus Cortina well enough to do decently in the career race. In my first 15 laps or so I was not able to get a better pole placement than 4th of 6, so I obviously need to get it to drift better. I think I need to start tweaking the setup.

Heh what a difference a setup makes. I just tried a Greger Huttu setup for the Lotus Cortina at Magny-Cours Club, and I was easily lapping faster than my previous attempts. The tires are taking a beating though, don't know if they will be good for a whole race. With a 51.561 I am only .561 off the handicap at GTL Rank, so setup made a big difference for me in this car at this track.

Welcome to GTL Myshkin!
Sub 1 min at N-Anderstorp is good IMO, my time in Lotus Cortina (same career race I think) was over 1 min if I remember correct.

Check out "who calls me buddy" in GTL rank Myshkin ;-) (it's long time since I uploaded my career-blt, now I have alot more times so I better re-upload it soon.

I have now only 2 races left in career Semi-Pro and have started up some raes in pro-mode to earn more money.

I do also race couple races a day online (to get used to traffic and to earn more money :-) and of course to meet new nice fair racing friends :-)
Just join the Pro-pits there you will always meet some fast nice racers.

I have been taken into the warm by a few people from who always helps me with setups when I ask, Franky and S!d.

Cu soon, take care

Duh I should have searched on "Mads", but for some reason I thought you would have put Fiatlove or NO Head. You were NO Head, right? I didn't remember. Anyway, I added you now, so upload your times :) I need times to shoot for, and the handicap times on some of the tracks look too high or low.

I have to practice a bit before I feel comfortable online. Right now I have been bumping against the AI trying to pass them (sometimes hitting them pretty hard when I try to out-brake them and they don't back off), which is no problem in singleplayer but I don't want to piss people off.

Another problem is that I like to use the hood view, not the in-car view. This is a problem because there are no mirrors in hood view. I always thought that in-car doesn't seem right, because your "car" is your desk and wheel, the monitor is the windshield, therefore you should see the hood. Well this argument has been done before, so enough about that.

Who else from here at RP have you all seen around, or online? Is Tuukka our Chaul?

FIATLOVE
02-20-2006, 01:14 PM
My online racing name is [NO]Head yes ;-)

Hotkeys is online i guess, and I'm pretty sure some of the folks from [SS]clan also is around.

I use incar cam, it gives me a better realism feel due to how the frontsuspension is better shown.

I did also practice offline a week at least before I went online..

I have no idea if Tuukka is our Chaul.

At saturday I mounted up the wheel-desk, placed it temporarily and went online for the first time for 14 days, now I have mounted a very new RED Momo and given away the 5 year weared RED Momo, the new one is abit more accurate.. :-))

I will try to upload updated career file soon so you have more times to compare, I have to say that I haven't done alot of races with aim for realy good times, my first goal is to win the PRO-offline races in career.

Hey this tread went way OT dont you think :p

I did try the Cortina again on the short Magny Court, I set quite some time (its green :D ) But this was with an extreme setup, I guess this would not last 10 laps.

I kind of given up taming the Cobra, its just does not drive where I point it ;)

Yeah I've been bad about going off on tangents lately. At least I didn't leave the GTL subject, but I have not even looked at any other tracks, much less the Ring. Actually I would like to try that first, I know the GPL version like the back of my hand, and you say it is similar... does that mean the track is the same, or it just looks the same as in it is pretty bland? I am assuming you know GPL has a Ring with updated graphics, it actually looks nice. Doesn't have the road and surrounding detail of GTL , but the sky and horizon are as good as anything I've seen so far in GTL.

I've been having fun with GTL, but it kind of makes me miss the days of GPL. Nothing like open wheelers with big engines and no downforce :)

Well the GTL version does have track surroundings wich is very up tp date, even the paintings on the road is as late as 2004 i think. Versa GTR/F1C versions the GTL does have a very nice karusel and alot of the glitches in track surface are gone, so look forward to a pretty nice version of the Ring.

NOTE: some of my online mentors have said that there is as much as 4 versions of "The Mother" (Ring) out there now, rounors tells that version 0.9 is the one to aim for these days!!!
When I'm online I prefer rather a 2 or 3 laps race at Ring than any other tracks cus I know it will be a blast no matter what place I finish.

Off topic??? let me show you;
I just mounted a rack to place my coffeebeans onto, fits perfect to place over the grinder and the boiler (right near the power outlets), then another rack for kitchen-cleaning-blankets to hang onto, tomorrow I finish up with some additional racks to complete the backwalls of my kitchen.
And if that wasn't enough I'm doing the same thing (smaller versions) for the rental appartment.

:-)))

Heh you Norwegians are pretty serious about your coffee :) But if I were to live in a place as cold, I might be so too. I don't actually drink coffee (heresy!) and I can't imagine buying a rack for my fruit juice. ;)

Now THAT is going off topic. I am but an amateur :Peace:

OK, now I also have to take pics of the fruitdrink-rack in the new fridge, it's one floor for sodawaters and a basement for pure juices, hehehe.

:-))

Mads

EDIT: when you see pics from my new kitchen compared to my old and very spacy place you will see why I'm building in some racks, it looks pretty cool too :-)

I hope your coffee beans are stored in a good airtight container, and in a cool place to keep best quality (some people recommend to keep coffee in the fridge, but I would not go this far).
I recommend Segafredo for the best Espresso and Cappuccino... hmmm Cappuccino, I am off for breakfast now.

FIATLOVE
02-23-2006, 02:02 PM
Heh I use Brabantia (airtight) boxes for the beans and I drink enough to make 500 grams used up within 12-15 days at maximum (and they are stored in shade), it's BEANS and not grinded coffee (grinded coffee start to lose flavor quality after 17 minutes and "remarkable loss in flavor" after 3 days (when it comes to finesmecker sense), I alway grind the beans while the water is boiled.
I did try the fridge some years back but could not feel any difference (and due to my bipolar I do have hypersensic taste and smell-senses.. ;-))

I do buy coffe in a store who sell MAX HAVELAAR (spelling??) coffe, so I buy some dark (this is my secret to my excellent coffee) BOLIVIA MEJILLONES HB 100% Arabica Espresso, then I blend it with 50% BLUE JAVA (this is all a product made after tips from my great friend [XR]ltrt) and then add alot of milk :-O mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Just mounted some racks for more kitchenwares, start to look OK now.

take care!

giggle... talk about veering off topic... make mine breve' please
I just got GT Legends and haven't yet tried online - only done a few of the very first cup challenges. One persona is working through the challenges to earn cars but I also downloaded the unlock from racesimcentral and have a persona with all cars/tracks.
I don't even know if I can connect because I have a modem dialup connection still. Anyway it's nice to see that a few familiar faces will be there once I do get that far!
