Like in U1+2 if you can't win because you keep crashing because the cars are too fast, just take a slower one, or make it slower, and the AI car will do the same (become slower). I raced a maxxed out Gallardo (all mods except the nitrous was pre-installed on the looser's car even though they are still locked for me to buy so after a top nitrous install I got a car with maximum performance mods well before I can buy them) and racing Webster I kept crashing, splendidly demonstrating for even morons why there's a speedlimit and why you shouldn't street-race so I tried the old trick I found out in U2, and indeed it worked. I bought a, Don't drink anything when you read this........ Punto, and I had only a nitrous upgrade to help regain speed after crashing, and I lost by a few seconds because I crashed in the end of the first challange. The fwd Punto doesn't steer and accelerate well so I got a IS200 instead and it steered a lot better and I several times got past the vette because of the stupid AI stopping completely up in 3 meters from 200-50 kph, clearly prooving the AI was adjusted for the slow car I was driving, plus the lack of mods apart from a 1st step transmission upgrade and the port nitrous. If you pass them if they crash, they catch up in seconds, if you crash and race fast you can catch them up fast too and then they come back. It's just impossible to figure out. Some of my first races was in a Cobalt vs a SLR and I won by a landslide with no mods. In the classic NFS-games the cars had acceleration curves so if you raced a Corvette vs a McLaren F1 the cars accelerated and cornered with speed that fit the car, the AI especially in Most wanted is awful and frustrating since it keep changing and you can't figure much out and what you can figure out goes against even normal arcade physics. For instance if you're tight behind a opponent then suddently the car stops, instant heavy reduction in speed, no brake-lights at all and no possibly reason but you loose speed and even nitrous can't make you catch up to him again since it blasts off, without nitrous light-trails, like an ice-bat out of a hell during a heat-wave. The other mismatch is the lack of connection what is said and what is done. The police several times say things they don't do, or isn't registered in the menu. And then the warnings about the gang-members you race, that they'll do anything to stop you, nothing different happends at any race, it just doesn't fit and it's confusing.

But seriously it's getting boring for me, and I've already figured out who Mia is and I've already seen there's no end-movie or anything so I think I'll shelve it.

At least the wankel-sounds were very authentic, apart from the throaty exhuast note but the main buzzing was clearly from a real wankel-engine. The sounds I'm tired off is the music though. And a note on the story-line compared to U2. I HATE it. The men are aggressive making the U1+2 guys look like Clark Kent on a slow day (cross scratching the car for instance was mean, you felt the hate, and that first guy you race, the white guy with the two-finger gang-signs was pathetic!) and the women were overly sexy making them look like sluts. Underground 1+2 were not bad, and comparing them to MW they are great. I never did figure out who the babe in the black 350Z at the end of U2 was.

What you're experiencing is called "catch up" and is my biggest gripe with the NFS games... Instead of having to learn how to drive, what you're forced to do is learn how to race a specific race... e.g. the race where you beat the dude for the Mitsubishi Lancer... the only way to win that race is to be in front of him during the last 15% of the race... I've been over 1km ahead of him at 50% of the race and by 80% he's right on my ass... Kinda sucks huh...

The rotary engines are probably the most accurate on sound (although I have no clue what a lambo or the Porshe GT really sound like). But they're not 100%... I race an RX2 Turbo IRL and it sounds alot different to the rotaries in the game... But I still reckon they're the best sounding in game...

The chick in the Black 350Z in UG2 is the blond chick that walks over to you in the beginning, where Rachael says "Is that your fantasy?" That's her... she's the babe you race at the end... ;)

I'm also getting bored of the game real fast, mainly cus of the catch up... I read somewhere that you can turn it off, but haven't found out how to yet... I think I'll restart the game and try a few new things out before I shelf it though...

Wow that took you a while.

For me it got boring after 1 week and I havent touched it again.
Is the troubles with the Sidewinder fixed with a new patch by the way ?

The police chases are fun and the stock cars look nice but everything else is just repetitive boredom. All cars handle the same and that is something I do not like.

Compared to this WR2 (which I also dont like that much) is a masterpiece.

Hi Frank, who said I'd had it more than a week? :D Because if I remember correctly, I haven't until in a day or two.

The set-up said there was no new patch for my version but even if there was then my FF Sidewinder wheel broke and was thrown out a year or so ago, after several years of great service, and my Sidewinder Prec. Pro joystick is also broken a bit so I don't use it anymore and the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is too stiff, in short, I used the keyboard to reach #5. Quite good too. Left and Right is numpad 4+6 and 8 for looking back, Q=throttle, Z=brakes, X=handbrake and that key to the left of the 1 key and under escape I use for nitrous.

I tried using my DFP wheel for 1 race, and holy heck it's like driving the 206 on ice while being extremely dizzy, a total lack of feel and very delayed reactions.

Btw Clio thank you very much for the info about the girl and the Catch up function, I didn't know that was what it did, a shame it can't be turned off for the career races as it can for the single races.

Ya sometimes the game can make u go crazy. The CATCH UP thing s very frustrating. In a 3 lap race at the end of the 1st lap my opponent crashed n i waz ahead by 40 seconds while crossing the finish of 1st lap. At the end of second lap he waz right behind my tail kissing my spoiler.

There is no trick 2 beat the AI but simple skill of maintaing the lead till the end. U shud get 2 kno abt the shortcuts n braking techniques n efficient nitro utilisation.

Usage of nitro shud be when u loose much speed. Dont use the NOS in tiny patches. Give a full go of atleast 1/5th to 1/2 of the total NOS. Also when u use it counts dude.

N use ur speedbreaker while takin narrow paths n slick turns.

If u do all this u r sure 2 win. I finished the game just 2day n i say the game s much better than its previous counterparts.

Unlike UW, you don't need to run a slower car in MW. Just driver slower with a very fast car in MW and the AI will not get that far ahead.

Also the game respects clean driving. As long as you don't hit anything other than traffic, any AI car ahead of you is most likely to slow down and/or crash allowing you to regain the lead, as long as it's not too close to the end of a race. So just drive clean, save some NOS for the end of a race, and don't worry about AI cars passing you mid-race.

Good advise JeffR,

I've noticed that I can get 500m + leads by just driving smoothly and not hitting anything, problem is, if you do hit something (even if it don't slow you down much) the AI catch up within seconds...

@Frank, no problems dude, ;) and I fully agree it needs to be switched off, or at least have the option to do so!!!

The Carrera GT does indeed scream like that in real life. It makes a very high pitched scream - it's quite loud.

The Lambo is strange, it sort of thunders, roars and screams as well.

I also really want to ditch the catch-up feature in Career mode. I disliked it in Underground 1 so much I never ever finished that game - and I equally hate it for this game as well.

After looking at NFSCars and seeing someone make a mod that unlocks the special edition and people calling it stealing, and another guy defends it and says he bought a pirate-copy of the game etc. (and no-one flamed him for it) then I saw in my std. edition that there is a folder called Camaro and two GTR's, but also one called 911GT2, what's that? I don't remember one like that being in the game.

That would probably indeed be a 911 GT2, or a 911 Turbo tuned up to look like one.

911 GT2 is a bonus car u ll get 4 finishing all the 69 challenges. If u use BURGERKING cheat code n finish challenge 70 then u can use JUNKMAN UPGRADES on any of ur MY CARS.

Thanks for the info that sounds cool
Funny I was just driving a GT2 a few seconds ago, mind you it was a 993 in Porsche Unleashed but still.

hey Frank, you still play PU aswell? that is game is SOOO awesome, i just love the factory challenges, but tbh, the graphics are a bit poo and the driving a little unrealistic

PS. having fully use of indicators/hazards, aswell as an in cabin view just made that game even better :)

Yes, the atmosphere of the game is still fantastic, and while the handling could perhaps be slightly better then compared to NFS3+4 it's not bad, especially with the adjustable suspension, although most std. Porsche doesn't have that in real life, but still it's nice. I also agree with the turn-indicators and interior-view but sadly newer ATI cards blur the textures no matter what setting you use so it looks a lot worse than it did originally :(

It's also nice with a showcase for the cars, just a shame I can't get the data all the time, or for the original EA add-on cars although there seem to be showcase info for them in the install folders.

I liked both modes, both the racing championships and the factory driver missions.

On-topic, I just finished the MW game, finally, and I guessed correctly on Mia too but man that Cross seemed psychotic, I don't think the actors were that bad, however their performance was overboard for a game that I think is supposed to be fun, you'd think you played a mass-murderer or such.

And now for some Porsche-racing with my Driving Force Pro wheel appropriately fitted with a Porsche badge instead of the Gran Turismo logo :racer:

Greetings
Frank
