I have been using my mothers PC for the last 3 weeks now and suddenly IE6.0 have started acting very annoyingly.
Its simple: When I click a link, any link, the browser starts to search normal, then it displays an error. However if I hit the "Back" button and then click the same link again it finds the page. If I instead hit "Update" nothing happens. It dosnt even try to find the page it just displays an error message. This is beginning to annoy me a lot since it does this at EVERY freaking page I tries to enter! So if anyone out there know a solution, please fill me in here  .

It seems like a connection settings error, try Firefox and if that does it then contact the IP otherwise just stick with Firefox.

Well, problem is that it isnt my own PC so even though I prefer firefox too I would rather try and solve the problem. I doubt it can be a connection problem. Its rather systematically it gives this error. Click link - get error - hit back - click link again -. I like to open lots of windows and then just proced and normally I would hit update page if it canīt find the source, but it dosnt seem to work, so I have to wait patiently everytime just to get the error so I can open the link again.
Speaking of firefox:

There are tree things I dont like about it. When opening a link from messenger firefox thinks it should open the link in the window you are currently viewing. Even though this is fixed in the betaversion I DO NOT use that since last time i did it causes all kinds of problems. No beta "/!%%! on my system!
Secondly, if firefox fails to find a page completely it dosnt write the url it was given in the adress line which forces you to close the window and find the link again where you multitabbed from.
Thirdly, whenever you download something as a single file, firefox makes a blank window for no apparent reason.

I still use it on my own PC though since the multitabbing(or browsing canīt remember whats its called) is a big plus.

Now that I think about it..at some point I clicked "yes" to make google the standard search engine for explorer. I have done this before manually by editing the registry editor so I thought it was the same, but without doing it manually. Maybe thats where the problem lies.

Changed IEs search engine back to standard by changing the registry edit as specified in the Tweaking Companion. That seemed to help. It now can find the sites again, its just very slow.
Nevermind, problem solved:)

Something else that you can try - Clearing the CACHE or Temporary Internet Files - in the control panel or Tools (IE). Be sure to clear ALL of the offline content as well.

I have experienced some of these same things and clearing the Temporary Internet Files (TIF Cache) cleared up the problem.
