I ordered yesterday: Antec P180 case Antec 120mm fan 512mb DDR2 ram Looks like they won't arrive for a few weeks at least. :( Frank N. O. 12-31-2005, 03:58 PM New week I hope to order two programming books from Amazon UK, is there a risk I have to wait that long too? I can't get any project going before I get those books and there's no where here in my area I can get anything like it, and there are no other projects I can get going easily since there are no references to mod the physics of rFactor, everything at RSC is just for graphics. I tried to look at the techinal bookstore at Odense Engineering College where I started my 3 1/2 year engineering degree a few years ago but they had nothing on their site about C++ programing. And I can't find any test-projects of even the smallest size at any of the gamedeveloper sites I've seen. Frank P.S. In case you're wondering why I'm up 2-3 hours before I usually get up lately then it's because this formerly quiet island is firing off every gram as much fireworks as we experienced the last many years in Odense, the third largest city in Denmark!!! I'm really concerned about how the car will look in the morning :( TraffikD 12-31-2005, 06:01 PM I think all the major sites are backlogged due to what chris said, Christmas. Probably will take a while for people to get stuff they order now until about the end of January when things return to about normal. On another note if you want to, there's alot of sites online that offer sample code and tutorials for C++. Frank N. O. 12-31-2005, 09:53 PM Thanks for the suggestion but to learn programming I need to learn my own way by looking at practical examples and only then can I learn the theory behind it and I haven't found any such tutorials online, at least none didn't require a creditcard, however I have experienced too often lately that I can't use a search-engine as well as I could before so maybe I've overlooked such examples. Any tips on what keywords to use to find sites with freeware game-related C++ programming code and tips? Hope you all get your orders soon :) Frank chris 01-01-2006, 03:16 AM P.S. I'm really concerned about how the car will look in the morning :( Oh, you'd love Sydney then. We set off about the same amount of fireworks as all the other world cities combined, in a period of about an hour or so for our New Years celebrations. :) We also set another record, 47°C today in Sydney. =[ Not very pleasant weather. 45°C even at the airport here in Sydney. Frank N. O. 01-01-2006, 03:20 AM Sorry to hear that, I just can't believe how some people are. Btw you got a pm comming in a few minutes. Frank Smokey! 01-01-2006, 11:31 AM Thats actually quite common with amazon...if you choose the cheap delivery way :) . Also if you live in the european union and order from outside it. Frank: In your case it should be fine as long as your order from amazone.UK Done so myself, no delays. Beetween if you are interested in game-specific programming I KNOW Aalborg University deals with it, since I have a cousin there studying "Datalogi" and their final project in the next semester is making a game. jelly 01-02-2006, 12:01 AM Frank N. O., I dabbled in 3D graphics programming with OpenGL when I finished my Computing degree back in 2002 ( before I became a loser -^ ). I would say 90% of it is Maths, so research that as well. Only a small proportion is API based. So get prepared for some killer 3D geometry & trigonometry too. Once you start, stick with it and be patient. - jelly. Frank N. O. 01-02-2006, 08:46 AM Thank you both for the replies. Smokey I actually tried Datalogi (only level C but still a nice introduction experience and with a nice teacher) at my Studenter Exam (Odense Student and HF Course, that is now only HF sadly) and I made some Visual Basic programs there and got some basic introduction to low-level programming languages too. My first own program was in fact a program to calculate speed in gears at given tire-diameter and redline and some more so it was indeed mostly math :D But I'm good at that as long as it's shown the correct way for my way of thinking and I also know that you have to start at the bottom to ever understand it, but luckily the principles there are in fact closer than one would think to high-tech looking 3D games. Greetings Frank way124 01-02-2006, 05:37 PM Hmm. I ordered a book on 22/Dec with free shipping and got it on the 23rd. Then on the same day I ordered another book (with free shipping again) but since it's Friday, I wasn't expecting it to arrive until Monday. But then I guess everyone was still on holiday on the 26th so nothing happened then. On the 27th I received an email from Chapters saying that my book is out of order, and offered to cancel. I did so right away and ordered the same book in Amazon. Like you, there were estimating it to arrive end of Jan. By a stroke of luck, I got an email a few hours later from Chapters saying the book has been shipped. So I went back to Amazon and cancelled the order. The next day, I got the book. :HB: Lesson: Order from Chapters, and do it before Christmas? Who knows. |
