Is it possible to axe the irritating Windows Security Centre pop-ups?
Although MS seems to think we are all too stupid to manage the security of our computers properly, I'd like to do away with its memory hogging security centre (using 3,416kb at the moment).

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, then find Security Center. Right click, select Properties, then change "Startup Type" to Disabled.
Here's a list of WinXP services and which ones are safe to turn off:

Thanks Justin.
I've just got ActiveSky 6 and it's sort of making my FS2004 run slowly, so before buying more ram, I'll see about turning off some services and hopefully that will improve things.

Nice! I can use that too, thank you :)
Any idea on how to remove the icon: Safely Remove Hardware as well? It's for my main SATAII hdd so I don't understand why the icon is there, I've only ever seen it before for my 3-in-1 HP USB printer/scanner/copier.

Ah, yes, the evil notification icons!
To get rid of any of them you can right-click any clear area of the taskbar, choos "properties" then go to the "Notification Area", make sure that "Hide Inactive Icons" is selected, then click the "Customize" button next to that. Find your icon from the list (Current/Past Icons), left click its listing, then from the drop-down menu select "Always Hide" and it's gone.
It's only there because you are using the Nvidia SATA drivers (I assume?). Most other SATA drivers don't bother with the notification, but Nvidia does. SATA drives are "hot swappable", meaning they can be unplugged/plugged while the computer is running, as long as they don't contain the OS partition ;). Nvidia just wants you to know that, I guess.
