View Full Version : LAN over VPN Spyfunkr 12-12-2005, 09:15 AM I promise I searched first :) Anyone successfully used LAN mode over a VPN connection, like Hamachi? Thanks, :cool:SpY [MC]Heiliger 12-12-2005, 09:20 AM What's VPN? But it sounds that it is something useful, eh? Spyfunkr 12-12-2005, 09:28 AM A VPN is a Virtual Private Network. In short, LAN. So software like Hamachi creates a "LAN" between to computers separated by the Internet. It can be called a "tunnel" and you can use it extend the LAN functionality of many games accross the Internet. :cool:SpY jtace 12-12-2005, 09:54 AM I've never tried a VPN at home before, just dealt with them at work. Not sure how it would work. Wouldn't it be easier to just create a private race in the normal online mode? I think I saw a password protection option when I was there last. Spyfunkr 12-12-2005, 10:01 AM On the heels of the news of NFSU servers shutting down, I fear the LAN mode may be the only way to extend the life of MW beyond the EA servers. I think it may also be easier to sort 1 race lobby in LAN than 400+ in online. :cool:Spy jtace 12-12-2005, 10:07 AM Yeah I wonder how things work in MW. Is the LAN mode via IP? I know they still race NFS PU even today via IP mode online and even have a custom interface and such created by some of the community members. The PU servers where shut down long ago and we still have several people who like to race it. :) Spyfunkr 12-12-2005, 10:49 AM I assume its IP. Thats the only transport the Internet uses, so it must be. Since I havent been able to connect with any friends with the game, I dont know what the deal is. Do you want to try? Email or AIM me if so. :cool:SpY [RS]Alt 12-12-2005, 07:37 PM The PU servers where shut down long ago and we still have several people who like to race it. :) That would be the Team [RS] IP Racing Lounge - a good place to chit-chat as well as join / host races. AND on top of all of that, the IP Racing Lounge ALSO support NFS:High Stakes with the HS Expansion Pack! Spyfunkr 12-13-2005, 06:57 AM Wow, that sounds great, Alt!!! So, where might one find this virtual cornicopia of fun and good racing? Somehow, MW has gotten me interested in p2p racing again, even though it really didnt deliver. Also, its been awhile - can you be-the-cop in multiplayer for HS? Thanks, SpY [RS]Alt 12-13-2005, 09:43 AM Can't help you with High Stakes question(s), but you can always find the latest release of the Team [RS] IP Racing Lounge http://www.rivalstock.com/iplounge.zip <- at this link. This program is available as a free program to ANYONE who wishes to use it. You do NOT need to be a member of Team [RS] (as some think) to use the program. Spyfunkr 12-15-2005, 12:06 PM Any attempts or progress or intentions of getting this to work with MW ? FYI, that link should be http://www.rivalstock.com/downloads/iplounge.zip -SpY |
