Is it a bug that your car peels out every time you try to accelerate from a dead stop or a near dead stop? I really hope it is, because it's extremely annoying.

I was somewhat irritated when I lost my 25 minute, 3.7 mil bounty pursuit because a damn cop hammered me in the side and my car spun in a circle burning for about 10 seconds before it finally moved a few meters forward. Then about 10 federal corvettes slammed into me and jammed me into a corner. Oiy.

Is this keyboard exclusive? I don't have a wheel setup unfortunately. Or fortunately, depending on how you look at it I suppose. They need to put some work into fixing this problem ASAP. It's worse with the heavier cars, from what I can tell. AM DB9 is the worst. Ugh. :(

I think they must have put it in to add "character". It doesn't IMO, just makes things really irritating. A 4wd Lamborghini Murciélago should rocket away at low speeds, those things have huge traction.

That, along with the unrealistic speed of the Police cars made me uninstall Most Wanted. And to compound it, the Bonus DVD didn't work.

I finished only made 2 or 3% of this game, before I got so cross with it I uninstalled it. Can't believe they got it so wrong. Most Wanted is a really major disappointment. I really feel like sending this back to Electronic Arts.

A game should make you want to play it, give you a sense of accomplishment when you've mastered it. Look at the SSTSim Concorde for FS2004, something I was involved with. That's the way a commercial product should be. It's realistic, but it doesn't have a totally unrealistic level of difficulty that drives people mad and makes them wish they never installed it.

Low speed characteristics suck, agreed. It's ten times harder with a keyboard I bet too.

Sorry chris, but this isn't supposed to be a sim, most of the physics are decent enough to make me happy, minus the low speed grip of course. Cops are a great experience if you ask me. Better then any of the previous versions, the cops in the previous games where a joke. If you get far enough in the challenge mode you'll drive several cop cars, they all tend to be tuned to extreme acelleration but don't turn well. As long as you can get around the normal AI tricks everything pulls, it's lots of fun.

They didn't get the starting sequences off too bad physics wise, but they over did the spin factor of the tires for any other low speed manuvers. But hey, NFS will never be a sim, never has never will be. But as long as they keep it reasonable I'll be happy.

If it's in the engine and not in the cars, it will be extremely hard to mod, unless the low end acceleration grip can be altered without throwing off the other behavior.

I guess my point wasn't obvious enough. To put it more simply, this arcade game is simply too hard to finish. Underground 2 was easier and better than this.

As the author of this post reckoned, after a half hour pursuit, and you then lose it - that tends to make you a little bit annoyed. If you slowed down the police cars to something approaching sensible speeds, the problem would be fixed.

I also have stopped playing MW at #5 or so.
I dont think it is to hard, I rather would say it is piss easy and thats why it is getting boring. This and the troubles with the MS pedals made me stop.
I first thought you need a heavy car to better crash thru the policestops but it does not make a difference and it is as easy with a tiny Fiat Punto as with a huge Cadillac. I also dont like that all the cars will have the exact same level of performance when you use the upgrades.

I am still waiting for EA to patch the wheel problem, maybe then I finish the remaining races.

I like the car models (without the hideous tuning kits) maybe somebody converts them to another game (WR and WR2 comes to mind) with some decent handling.

I find that only certain cars with the initial tyres do wheel spin from start, but most of them are much better when you upgrade the tyres to the best versions. But I found the Lotus was the worst car for spinning, even on the best tyres. But I love the Porsche Turbo S and the Subaru although I am now driving the Gallardo and Evo at times for chases.

Agreed Fez, it's in fact too easy untill you get to the top levels of the black list. It was too easy to fly thru the lower level of the blacklist, started getting challenging about number 5 on the blacklist or so for me on my keyboard. I did still have fun with it though.

I've found that some cars do have more weight then others, the mercedes is massive compared to the little porsche cayman I liked. There are definately techniques to pushing thru the road blocks. First use the speedbreaker, just to give you a more time to aim the car correctly. Then aim for the rear end of any police cars you want crash thru.

Never hit them head on, or in near the front of the car. With heavier cars you can get away with mid-section hit on them, but I'd still avoid it.

The only good use of the speedbreaker I've found is for busting thru roadblocks or aiming for pursuit breakers, if you're not using it then you're screwing up.

As the author of this post reckoned, after a half hour pursuit, and you then lose it - that tends to make you a little bit annoyed. If you slowed down the police cars to something approaching sensible speeds, the problem would be fixed.

Dang right it pisses you off. lol It took me 12+ tries to finish the last pursuit/escape sequence in the game. Honestly the way I see it is, if the cops are all over you after you made a mistake, well, shouldn't they be??? You screwed up! They better be all over your ass or I'd be mad about the cops being wimps. :)

I've noticed a major driving difference between 4wd/rwd/fwd cars in the way they accellerate the car. And each car is different about recovering from a powerslide. 4wd cars are great off road, I can tear thru the park and golf course with them, but a viper is slippery as crud.

There are differences in low speed grip between cars, but by far things are modeled far to slippery in that area, but I do still think the launch sequences to start races are kinda reasonable even so, not necessarily sim like, but reasonable in that they make you manage your tire spin on start, too much and your slow as crud, but if you hit each cars sweet spot it launches nicely, and if you notice each car has a different sweet spot. (blue section on the tach when launching).

Don't get me wrong, there is a TON of things I would have told EA to fix before they released it, but overall I still am having fun with it. I never finished Underground 2, my wheel was broke and it just didn't interest me that much. With Most Wanted, I've actually finished career mode with only my keyboard and I've been doing some online racing with it even.

Its 10 times easier with a keyboard and it also happens if you use a wheel. You know when I get a car on day, I´m going to install a keyboard instead of a wheel because aparently thats the best way to control a car. The NFS serie have finally proved that for me.

While my wheel is busted, I can garuntee you I'd be racing better if I had a wheel! So don't give me that.

When I installed the demo, I started racing w/keyboard b/c I couldn't install the MOMO (stupid table...) . Then I had enough with my hands aching b/c of it and cut the table and setup my MOMO. It's way easier and faster (b/c wheels are analog...).
It's only easy to drive with k/b in the GTA series, but then it's not racing...

Maybe the wheel where set up wrong. BUT it took me 15 tries to complete one of the challenges in the demo. Switch to keyboard and I did it in first try. Try it out for yourself first before juding JT.

Well I've raced for many years with a wheel, so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Ask anyone around who raced PU online, or even HS online if you want to talk about an arcade game. I've done all of MW without a wheel so far, and I can easily tell you that I can do a lot better at several things still, if I had my wheel.

Keyboard is playable, but a wheel is just that much better for fine granular control over things. Just my opinion. :)

I've raced all NFS since IISE and only PU could use a steeringwheel without messing up your real life driving skills and reactions. I just use the keyboard, it's fine by me. People are however different so that one person can better steer with the keyboard and another with the wheel isn't a problem, you should use what you use best, I do however think it was originally intended to answer the question if the wheelspin start was harder or easier with one control over the other, and it seems like it really isn't, so no need to go further with this, since I don't read it as an offense but an attempt at a objective answer to a question that was honestly misunderstood.

Regarding the wheelspin and this not being a simulation then I think you argumented for our case, because if it was a simulation then it should be possible to limit the wheelspin with precise throttle-control, like with Grand Prix Legends. Personally I would've been happy to have the same physics as in U2, it's starting wheelspin wasn't really problem, especially when compared to this, but of course it's one aspect of many with a game like this, but agreed it is a point that's very crucial to a key part of the game.

Frank

P.S. I'm in such a good mood since I got an email my old mb was recieved and the new parts will be sent today :D

Yeah you definately should be able to limit wheel spin with the precise throttle control of a wheel/pedal setup, sim or not. heh. That point I dunno how it works with MW as I've not done it with pedals yet. I think EA had the right idea with things but didn't get it right when it comes down to low speed traction.

btw, congrats on the mb Frank. :)

Hello all, new to forum, old to series, and I know some of you may recognize me by name, greetz to all!

Not sure how the steering issue landed in this thread, but while its up for debate, Im afraid that this steering with keyboard vs wheel thing is real. I, too, am a long time racer of many arcade and sim style racers. Mostly, I've used a joystick for low lap times in multiplayer races. But when Im in the mood for getting into the game, and feel for driving, I use a wheel.

One day, I launched MW, not realizing that my wheel was disconnected(love them kids!), and launched into a race with the keyboard only. The steering was much better!!! Why? There is some sort of function that smooths out ananlog inputs to steering. In other words, a right arrow push on the keyboard doesn't effectively slam the wheels to the right. This makes for terrific handling on a keyboard. It turns a wheel into a mushy, inaccurate control of the front wheels. A quick and hard turn on the wheel creates late and then, overcompensated turns.

I believe most games have this feature built in for keyboards, but not this extreme, and not for wheels. Im not sure about all wheels, but it occurs with my wheel, MS Sidewinder. This may be "designed" this way to deal with compatibility issues regarding PCs racing XBOXes, I dont know.

Did I say you had never played a racing game with a wheel? No I did not. Maybe you just misunderstood it. You have NOT played Most Wanted, with a wheel and therefore you cannot judge THAT game on if it feels right based on experiences from other games. Not every game is the same you know :juggle: .

lol - well believe me or not, I don't have any doubts that I'd have better control with a wheel then with a keyboard.

I got a solution to this... you have to upgrade your tranny so it limits it and if you think your going to do it, let the rpms drop to around 2-4K rpm and resume start up... its not that bad, and its pretty easy to get used to.

Hey Ya'll, I'm new around here so... HI!!! :)

I get really bugged by the acceleration part too, specially with the 2WD cars... I use my Lancer that I one off that idtiot early in the game, It takes off the best out of all the cars, it spins for like 2 seconds then launches nicely... I use it for ALL my persuites because I keep getting busted while trying to launch with the other cars. the 4WD seems to do the best...

As for the wheel discussion, I can vouch for the wheels being the way to go, you just need to get the correct wheel (by that I mean not an el cheepo!!!). I have a driving force pro for my PS2 and I play GT4 on that, it's absolutely AMAZING!!! But put a cheepo on and I can't even drive striaght, let alone try racing... I get frustrated with the keyboard on PC, but I'm not ready to spend BIG moola on a wheel until a decent sim comes out for PC!!!

NFS:MW plays some tricks with the physics. Below 30mph, the pursuit vehicles become like tanks and are hard to move. As far as wheel spin goes when launching, this is mostly to due with first gear in a car which you can't control. I suggest using the Mustang or the DB9 for pursuits, since they don't have the wheel spin issue that other cars have.

I got the Murcielargo last night and WHAT A DREAM for persuits... this thing kicks ass on the open road, through town and hardly spins when you pull off....

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR PERSUITS!!!

Some cars are definately better then others. :) Oh and I got a wheel for christmas, I definately drive 10 times better with a wheel. ;) I agree that the steering filter needs to be taken off or toned down but it's still much easier to be smooth for me.

Anything 4wd is much more useful. The A4 Quattro 3.2 FSI gets away quickly.

But the SL500 likes to spin its wheels, especially with some tuning. I imagine a tuned SLR would be worse, unless EA has realised that since the engine is so far back in the chassis of the SLR, the weight transfer helps low-speed grip.

Yeah, Murciélago is a very good car in real life as well. It's plenty quicker than the Gallardo. Hard to believe the "bat" is quicker than the Gallardo on slow race tracks like Imola, but indeed it is. It has to be the big 6.2L engine at upwards of 550Nm of torque from 2000rpm. The torque curve is very broad and flat on that V12 engine, and I think they've simulated it okay in MW.

The driver can get away with skipping some gear ratios and just the torque of the engine alone will make up for it.

Hi all,

I havnt had any experience with a wheel, but with a keyboard i definitely hav a lot. Ya when u take ur hand off the the throttle key, ur car drastically slows down compared to any other NFS(When the same thing is done in UG 2 ur car goes as if u have just stepped fully on the Clutch pedal in a real car). N if ur car comes to a full halt, the wheels give a roll up before the gear gets actually engaged, n this becomes a problem in pursuits. If u ask me Mustang ll help u in such situations but i theresay it happens in Mustang too. So try all cars n choose the best which suits u.

Come on... u just cant blame EA for everythin, they try different car physics in each version n improve it. If tiz god damn same then there's no difference at all between the versions.

Frank N. O.
01-21-2006, 12:18 PM
If you try to drive and look with the chase cam you can see the brakes come on when you release the throttle (keyboard control). But I actually think U2 had good physics, and I'd like this game a lot more if I could start the cars like in U2. The AWD cars power-slide with the rear-ends like rwd, also the Impreza and Lancer Evolution, at least my version of them, and that's not even close to either fun or realistic when trying to get away from cops, and it it starts oversteering with the nose towards a wall and I release the throttle then BANG it stops dead.

But about development then they shouldn't keep developing just to be different if they get worse than before, and that goes for many things in modern life, not just games imo.

I do wonder if this will be the last NFS game since I can't see them go any farther than this, they have careers, hot pursuits, FnF ricing and illegal racing and story-lines, sort-of. What else?

Frank

But the SL500 likes to spin its wheelsThat's because it has a 7 speed tranny and 1st gear is too low. Use 2nd gear instead.

That's because it has a 7 speed tranny and 1st gear is too low. Use 2nd gear instead.

However, it does go like a bat out of hell once it gets some grip. Get into 2nd gear quickly and it rockets away.

Quickest I've tried so far is the Lotus Elise. :) Boy is that thing quick!

KyzrSoze
01-25-2006, 11:00 AM
The quickest in my stable is the Evo 8. It sounds to me like an angry hornet, and with all four tires clawing it gets up to speed quickly. I like the WRX STI too, but its a little more torquey and relaxed. I bought an Elise, but I have not tuned it yet so it isnt quite as quick as those two.

I'd like to have some sort of "concrete filled bumper" cheat for the Evo so I could throw cop cars like a rocket propelled sledge hammer.:D

I figured out that the cops in a road block are fairly slow to break up and pursue after you smash through, so if I have a wide enough path I will do quick U-turn and take out another car like a sitting duck. I have been able to do this up to five times in a row on the same road block.:)

chris

The Evo to me doesn't sound quite right, having heard many of them, from the Evo V through to the latest ones. Maybe what EA recorded is mechanically different to what the rest of the world gets..

I've got another trouble, the Gallardo when tuned up loses its V10 sound and gets the Murciélago's stock V12 sound effects.. Surely that must be a bug - since a V10 and V12 engine sound so hugely different.

My Gallardo at the moment isn't as quick as the tuned Elise, but it does have far better traction. In the SL500, you cringe when you find an opponent in one of the Lamborghinis - since they are so quick off the line. The Murciélago (aka bat) is particularly nasty.

I have only heard a stock Evo, so the only thing I can figure is that the guys collecting the sounds had to improvise what tuned car would sound like. Of course it can sound different depending on what brand of aftermarket muffler is used. The only thing that sounds wrong to me is that after my last parts by the Evo sounds like it is turning twice the rpm that the tach reads.

I m not quite sure abt the change in sound of the Gallardo after upgrade. I ll check it 2day.
