Looks like Sony is in a bit of hot water over this XCP system of copy protection. This seems every bit as dubious as Starforce.

Man, that is not a good position for Sony to be in. You have a right to make your own backup CD's, and members of groups such as SOCAN or ASCAP are allowed to make copies of CD's, regardless of whether they are for backup, mixes, learning purposes or whatever. Sony has only begun to scratch the surface when it comes to violating peoples' rights with this new rootkit approach. I hope the get their arses handed to them in court, just to make an example out of them!

Thanks for posting that great link. :)

This is terrible. I like Sony products, and now they go and do this! I'm not sure Sony will be on my shopping list in future.

It doesn't work on Macintosh computers.. Which is discrimination! :nono: Why should they miss out on such wonderful innovations. ;)

Looks like Sony is in really big trouble over this as virus makers start utilising this technology for their own wicked purposes.

Is Sony's EULA that comes with the cd's even worse than the rootkit? :help:

If you file for bankruptcy, you have to delete all the music on your computer.

That's ridiculous.

The EULA says Sony-BMG will never be liable to you for more than $5.00.

And that may be in violation of laws in certain countries where statutes prevent this kind of limitation.
