With the sad demise of the V10 engine in F1, Renault gives us a sample of the extraordinary mechanical symphony that is the 3 litre V10 F1 engine.
What this doesn't convey is the absolutely feral manners of these engines. The noise is so loud, louder than a Concorde at full power dumping raw Jet-A into its exhausts. It's amazing to hear one in person, especially as they are running one in a team garage running it through various RPM.
One moment, the typical and distinctive V10 howl common to all 10 cylinder engines, then next minute a mad, utterly feral, maybe even evil scream to scare the life out of someone not used it.

Wow, sounds like a man in a hole with alot of pain.
LOL nice idea :D
I just seen a M5 E60 Ringtaxi onboard video and its V10 sounded rather boring

F1 next year = 2.4L V8

 They actually went thrue with the insane rules? One engine-maker, one tire-maker, one car-type etc? So now F1 is worse than F2 or whatever that new formula is called, weird.

It is just restricted to the V8 engine layout, not one standardized engine.
Also tyrechange pitstops are allowed again.
And they came up with another crazy qualifying rule ^_^

Have they limited the width of the cars too? Some years they were allowed to be 2 meters wide, then they shrank to 1.80 IIRC, but that just made the cars faster, like so many other attempted speed-limiting ideas, I wonder if there at all are any engineers on that board that makes the rules.
How about electronics? Is it still no active-suspension but fully automatic gearboxes or have they gone back to semi-automatic?

New wing concept

Ok finally something that doesn't look nearly identical to the last car. Reminds me of the split wings on a old Tamyia Corvette C3 my brother had, and the rear-wings on the smaller Zonda's. I doubt they'd like it though since a wing low behind spinning free wheels can't have good winds to my limited knowledge of aerodynamics.

The wing presents safety concerns too, especially with regards to the rear tyre in an accident involving another car.
And the rule changes are basically because they went from total Ferrari domination to just about total Renault domination. Same thing, just different colours on the cars and different names.

I wouldn't call this season Renault domination... Kimi held onto a chance at the driver's championship until the last two races and the constructor's title wasn't decided until the final race. Hardly dominant. Kimi had just as many wins as Fernando, I believe. His car was just unreliable. But for the majority of the season the Mac's were very obviously faster than the Renaults. Again, hardly dominant..
And how about Kimi going from last to first at Suzuka? He had to pass both Renaults to get to the front. Passed the last Renault on the last lap for the win too :P
I've heard a number of flat plane crank V8s in person from IndyCar, ChampCar and ALMS (Judd V8s in LMP2 cars). They're not half-bad. And hearing one scream upto 20,000 RPM should be quite the experience. No, probably won't quite be the music the V10s are. But at the same time, the V10s were no match for Ferrari's last F1 V12s either in terms of chill-inducing sound.
Many people cried when FIA mandated V10s only for 1996. And many are crying now with the new V8s around the corner. People simply don't like change. We can at least give it a chance.
But I must say, I would absolutely kill to hear a 1994 or 1995 Ferrari F1 V12 in person...

That rear wing looks like a good idea to me, provided it works as they say it does.
I prefer OHV cross plane V8's myself, but we won't see Formula one cars with either turbo/supercharged small 4's or 5 litre V8s will we? Narrowing the cars does make them have a better cD figure so that might also be another factor.

not like its not the first time (theres been V8s and V6s in the past)... and theres nothing wrong with a V8 :D

At least the V6's were turbocharged and had plenty of power.
Matt: I think Renault developed their car conservatively, just to get the championship, and once they got it, they went all out to make the point they were faster all along.
But the old V12's are still in a league of their own for fantastic sound. Just like the Murciélago R-GT sounds fantastic from inside (but not as good as the Diablo GTR).

you know that newbie drivers spun out the mclaren cars a few times...
chris

They even did that with the F1 road-car. Ron Dennis even spun one at Suzuka, ending up going into a tyre barrier backwards quite quickly.
All F1 cars, be it the road-going Mclaren, or the pure open-wheelers are violent, savage machines that don't forgive driving errors.
Didnt former BMW CEO Bischetsrieder total a McLaren F1

So did Rowan Atkinson.
Not quite. Only minor damage. The car is fixed, he still has it IIRC. Rowan Atkinson is a big car enthusiast, much like, get this, Steven Spielberg is siad to be a Flight Simulator enthusiast with reportedly 3000 hours logged virtual flight time.
And Gearoge Luca's also owns a few Tuckers, which is why he did the movie.

Tucker Torpedos? Quite a rare and unique car (and pretty fast in top end for its time). Only 51 were built. I've seen one, nice car.
There is only 49 left now, and there were 51 replica's made a few years back, Rear engined with Caddilac motors. They were all Fibreglass though.

His accident was a very heavy one too wasn't it, above 290km/hr IIRC.. The car held up extremely well for such an extremely severe accident. That's proof of the excellent safety of carbon-fibre monocoque construction.
It's always amazing how strong cars like that are. The body panels may break easily, but the central monocoque section is incredibly strong.
