I came across this article and thought I'd share it with you. I wonder though if the author REALLY has enough "good" airflow?

Enjoy!

Ooooops, I now realize that there IS an "Off Topic" sub-forum and I should have posted this there.
Perhaps one of you good chaps (admins) could make the move for me?
Thanks :)

Hmm, no finger guards for the fans and.. that thing must be very noisy. :?

:jawdrop: That's a lotta fans. Must be a computer-cooling version of the No Replacement For Displacement mantra for cars.
I have been thinking of a custom-made computer-case but in the elegant and practical department, not in the make-a-manequin-into-a-computercase department, although it would still be different.
Regarding coolingflow then my CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case with it's stock intake and exhuast fans does a great job even with a 3gb 800Hz 1GB RAM P4 system, 10-20 degrees C lower than my AMD XP1600+ in my 1998 AOpen Midi Tower, I got a screenshot from that at 78 degrees if I remember correctly :D

WoW! That's a lot of fans - I can only imagine the noise it must make. It surely must sound like a fighter plane taking off!

While I admit it's rather creative, I have to say I'm not much of a "fan" of that case. Oh, shush, you knew that was coming!
If you aren't really into case modding, but you still want to swing in the realm of the truly different or even bizarre, there's a new ASUS case that looks like it was a reject for Darth Vader's helmet design:
Say Hello (and perhaps, shortly thereafter, "goodbye") to the ASUS Vento 3600...
http://www.soft.lt/hardware/images/ASUS-VENTO-3600.jpg
In the realm of cooling that might actually be worthwhile, there's an "air conditioned" case available now that uses a peltier to chill the air inside the case. The Sytrin Nextherm ICS 8200 (who thinks up these names?) might be onto something. Some of the reviews I'd read suggest the temperature reduction isn't terribly great (from 1 to 3 degrees or perhaps as much as 5), it can be significant.

It's not a terribly unhandsome case, and maybe has some potential for modding.
Anyone remember the Black Mesa, Half-Life 2 inspired case (http://members.home.nl/gis/) from early 2004?

I like the air-conditioned one, my case currently has a front and rear fan, Dad drilled the stock holes out bigger for ebtter airflow, and I cut out the front of the case and put some mesh on it so it could suck the air in better, and then I have the fan for my ATi 9700pro and the Aero 7 cooler for my AMD 1.3ghz cpu, which usually runs at a max of 45 degrees with the fan all the way up in the middle of summer, the old one went away at 6000rpm and still my comp wnet to 60 degree's this runs at half that, and is adjustable, case is a constant 25 degrees unless I leave my door open on a cold day or it's cold on startup.

Sounds like you've got your fans covered, VQ.
Hey, anyone heard of the the Pininfarina computer (http://www.3dcool.com/product_info.php?products_id=1547)?

OMG, they're actually making that? I saw a picture of it as a prototype. Is it particularly good? That might actually be good.
Wow that Fancase looks insane :D
 Chey good to see you again
Stop looking for Schrödingers cat, it is probably dead :clown2:

No, I have never heard of the Pininfarina case before but it looks stylish on the surface. I can't tell anything from the functionality from the specs nor the 2 pictures.. Seems that they could fit one 92mm fan in there so that's good. And the side panel is screw free so that's always a plus (kinda looks like a car door handle to me, heh). I remember I had to remove a total of 6 or 7 screws on my first PC case to make an upgrade and that was completely nuts.

That Lian Li case is crazy! :) The case "Disegno di Pininfarina" doesn't look anything special though.

My one is nearly identical to this:
http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/M_C_PC-6X_S_PC-60.htm
(The black one). Mine has a different style front panel, but otherwise is absolutely identical inside to PC61. The only downside of these black cases (and any black coloured stuff) is that they show every single speck of dust.
And these Lian Li cases might be alluminium construction, but don't let that fool you into thinking they might be light weight. They are heavy!
If I was to get a new one, it'd definately be this:

I think with more computers that generate more heat in a home, it's time for central cooling. Have water pumped through every computer, then bring the water to the top of a two storey high waterfall, emitting heat along the cascading rocks. Numerous advantages. Quiet computer; aesthetic (substitute rocks with bamboo and you get the whole zen look); and since we're in the future, it's time to replace the fireplace with a high tech and environmentalist heating system. It's the future, my friend. Believe it.
On another note, the Vento looks like a toaster. Why bring Internet to your appliances when you can bring toasting functionality to your Internet machine?
