Edit: I Changed this from my old post because I was wrong about a couple things I said and don't want to post until I know for sure. Well, now I'm running a 89 Camaro Iroc-Z 5.7L 350ci TPI V8. Through many ideas and options I've just decided to jjust rebuild the engine into a 383ci stroker. We'll as a sound system, I plan on putting in 3 12 inch JL Audio Powerwedge 12W3's. Well, I'll try to fix this post. I really messed up.

So far we've only lost against a honda s2000 and a nissan skyline (Both had been done up to $hit)
I know how that feels except that was when I used my grandpas vette to street race and the car had NOS but as soon as I got to the end I slowed down and the car goes flying past me and hits righgt before I got to the finish line and I lost $700 but thats chump change :help: lol.
I guess ilegal street racing isin't that good for ya when you have muscle cars on an import spot, thats why vettes and Camaro's ^_^ need to stay at the strip and not at the block venice strip.

Yeah, my dad and I recently put in 2 12lb NOS Bottles. I know a little about it but that stuff scares the shit outta me. I won't go in the car when my dad uses it in races. My dad won $2000 bucks racing a Toyota Celica On the weekend. He had to use NOS to beet him but as Vin Diesel said It doesn't matter whether you win by and inch or by a mile, winings wining. Also, about muscle cars. The last project my dad worked on is a 1966 Pontiac Parriesenne. Man I love that car. Runs like a god.

just a reminder that Vin Diesel never went past 120mph in a car and he never got past 100 in the movie so he wouldn't know about that there would he. ^_^
Toyotas suck to me, I only love 67 mustangs, imports and big ass trucks but I love hummers and I always but I would take a hummer over a import with $50,000 of work and $30,000 under the hood anytime. :HB:

Yeah. I'm soon to get my own license and I recently bought an 1988 Camaro IROC-Z, I was just wondering, could I drop a 440 V8 in it. I'm trying to decide what to do with it right now. The one thing I love about that Camaro is the rear wheel drive. I gotta couple of marks from break stands in front of my house. (Dad's not to happy bought that one) But please, gimme some ideas on the camaro. I want it fast, really fast. Thanks alot.

Yes, a chipped 1.8T is the fastest car in the world. At least that what some idiots will try and make people believe at http://forums.vwvortex.com
I am doing a T3/T4 upgrade within the next year along with mods to complement it. Yeah, 340whp will feel much faster than 215.

kemperz: first, how old are you and second how much dough you got, a 440 drop in an old camaro wouldn't be a snug fit so an engineer would have to rebuild the engine bay to make it legal, that cost lots of money so if i were you and you had that money, buy a late model second hand corvette
Commander
02-04-2002, 01:00 PM
A 440 is a Chrysler engine, and it won't go into a 3rd gen f-body without major reworking of the engine bay and driveline. You don't need an engine like that in a 3200 pound car anyway, the weight will unbalance the car and it will handle like a brick. You don't want to do that, as 3rd gen f-bodies are amongst the best handling cars on Earth. I will tell you what you can do, and it will drop right in: First, you will need to realize that your car will be losing all the computer controlled stuff, and therefore will not be smog legal, so keep that in mind if your area enforces that. Anyway, that 89 Camaro probably has a 350 in it, or maybe a 305 right? All the same, really. What you can do is find a 400 small block, and it will bolt right in. They are a bit tough to come by in most parts of the world, but the Canadian market is full of 400's. I run a 1983 Trans Am with a 435 HP 406 small block in it (400 bored .30 over), and it turns out high 11's at the track with no Nitrous, turbo or supercharger. I built that engine for about $3000, and it is truely amazing. Do you have a manual or auto tranny? If you have a manual, fine, that is cool, but if you have an auto TH350 or even a 700R4, then you are really in luck! Combine the torque generated by the long stroke of a 400 sbc with the torque-multiplying characteristics of a torque converter, and you will feel like you just hit the light-speed button on the Millenium Falcon! One ting to consider though, is that if you have T-roofs, you may experience chassis twisting under this much torque. No big deal, just have a shop install some sub-frame connectors and you are fine.
To give you an idea of where a car with this engine will sit you, I can honestly say that my T/A can run with Corvette Z06's, Porsche 911's, and Dodge Viper's, but at a fraction of the cost, and insurance is considerably less too. I once had a 1989 Turbo V6 Trans Am, supposedly one of the fastest Firebirds ever made, and it couldn't even come close to the '83. If this is out of your league, then use what you have. That Camaro can be made into a demon for little money with the engine it has.
For good reading, I suggest anything by David Vizard, the small block Chevy guru. You can find his various books at automotive part stores, and they are EXTREMELY informative.
Hope this helps,
L8ER,
TJ

Thanks alot commander. That info helped alot. I think I will drop a 400 into it, I do have a which I personally like the feel of better, more control. I'm gonna through a supercharger into it and probably NOS after awile. I'm lucky to live in canada as you said, it would be easy to find a 400 here. The IROC has had quit a bit done to it already. My back seat has been ripped out for a little bit of weight reduction. As for monaro's question, I'm 15, soon to be sixteen, but I've been working with my dad on cars for as long as I can remember. And as for cash flow. Not a problem. I digitize for a pretty good company part time which pays me good, plus my parents help me out where they can. Though I don't really like thingsd being handed to me. I would have responded sooner to these posts but unforunatly my dad was at a drag on Saturday night and the front end of a Celica my dad was racing clipped his back bumber and spun my dad into a ditch and he was sent to the hospital with a broken leg and arm. So I've been takin care of him. Well, thanks again for the help, and sorry bout babbling so much.

Ashwin, it's looking like around $30k (US). I hope it doesn't get boosted up like the S2000. They were running about $5k over sticker. My '91 had a sticker of $29k, but I got it with 50k miles at $15k. If I can save up between 5k and 10k, I'll be able to handle the payments hopefully. If not, I'll just get one about 6 months old in 2003.

The track here in Calgary Alberta is called Race City Motorsport Park. It is a nice track, and they have drags, oval, and circuit courses there that you can pay to use at various times. I think it opens May long weekend. For further details, visit their website at http://www.racecity.com/home.php .

Hey Kemper. This is the one I've autocrossed. It was an automatic and I put a 5 speed in. This is the 2nd engine, the first one started to leak oil around 230k miles. It is close to the top of the SCCA Solo-II stock category rules. I've got Koni adjustables in the rear, a stiffer/bigger front sway bar, an HKS cat-back exhaust system, a 3-core aluminum radiator (from Mazda Motorsports), K&N air filter and some Konig wheels (very light). I took out the motors for the electric top (50 lbs), and also there was a big difference in weight between the automatic and the 5-speed, that was another 100 lb savings. It's not that great at drag strip type racing, but does well at autocrosses. I think it does well over the coupe because it has the same suspension as the turbo and a very low center of gravity, even though the coupe is a little lighter. The Turbo is in another class luckily. Is that an RS Camaro? I remember them having those ground effects for one thing.

My ride now is a metallic blue 2 door 4 seater coupé, with 5.7 litre 225kW V8, 6 speed manual gearbox.. It has the stock Eurovox Maestro series stereo system (260w). I wont give away any more details than that.. Nor will I post any more info on it.. I've already had a idiot try to steal it..
It's a nice car, but, it's just awful when a guy in a F355 Ferrari rolls up beside you at traffic lights, then screams away from you.. I like my car, but, I love the F355 Ferrari even more.. I go weak at the knees every time I see an F355 being driven the way it's makers intended..

Well speaking about cars that people drive or had been driven in the past...I wish i could say i had a fancy machinery but, sorry, nope i hasn't =[ Anyway, my first car was a 69 Opel Rekord, i dont know the version name of it in the states or outside sweden, a nice piece of work it was with no weight at all at the rear :HB: I took my driverslicence when i had that car and in the middle of winter it was with a lot of snow, so i had to have the trunk full of, yes the winter wheel cause i didnt bother to change. My dad was a truckdriver and he used to say that if u couldnt drive with summerwheels even at winter, u cant drive. Cheers daddy. Anyway, my next car was a japaneese Datsun a yellow small car looking like a swedish postbox=[ but who cared, not me. A friend of mine had it before and he had done everything there possible was to get it in order. When he was finnish he got tired of it, bought a new wreck and sold it to me. I had it for a few years and didnt pay a cent on it on repairs ^_^
Later on i bought me my 1st Saab 900 but it was so rusty so it nearly fell apart. One more Saab 900 has passed by and now im steering a Ford Stationwagoon -94, nothing fancy at all but when u got two kids and ur day is full of those practical things that i couldnt beleive about before my kids, its necessary.
Ops, this is beginning to look like a Matt posting ^_^ ^_^
