Hope you understand a little bit of German :=)

PC Action 03/2005

GameStar, 03/2005
„Bei der Fortsetzung World Racing 2 will Entwickler Synetic alles besser machen.

Potenzial: sehr gut

PC PowerPlay, 02/2005
"World Racing 2 sieht wieder verteufelt gut aus. Viel mehr hat es mir aber die Fahrer-KI angetan, die endlich nicht mehr stur auf der Ideallinie fährt, sondern mir eine faire Herausforderung bietet. Ansonsten hat Synetic konsequent Schwächen ausgebügelt und Stärken ausgebaut.“
Einschätzung: sehr gut

Babelfish translations rock :D

PC Action 03/2005 "... World Racing 2 does not look only super, but plays themselves already to this early level of development class." Only running play in the Top hits 2005

PC Games 03/2005 Christian sauerteig: "Wow, I is heavily impressed! Already over a half year before the publication World Racing 2 makes an excellent impression... Top: Points of criticism of the predecessor were eliminated consistently and the optics was noticeably up-polished."

GameStar, 03/2005 "during the continuation World Racing 2 wants to make developer Synetic of everything better. With success: In a version progressed far convinced us aggressive computer opponents, an extensive damage model and the most varied distances since... now, since World Racing." "voices now still the balance and the career mode, Need remains for speed Underground 2 despite the outstanding Tuning options with me in the summer first times in the non removable disk garage." Potenzial: very well

PC PowerPlay, 02/2005 "World Racing 2 sees again disparaged well out. Much more did it to me however the driver AI, which does not drive finally any longer stubbornly on the ideal line, but offers a fair challenge to me. Otherwise Synetic expenditure-ironed consistently weaknesses and developed strengths." Estimate: very well

Actually most of the comments say that the developers have worked on the parts that were criticised in WR1, and improved/added the features that people liked/missed in part 1.

All very positive reviews so far -^

I'll second that..and third and fourth.. :D

Tom,since you have re-appeared,plz pass on my utter disdain for those garish arcade like direction arrows I saw in some WR2 screenies :Puke: I even vented @ the Synetic forum,so maybe Andreas(sp?) can read it and give his head a shake. :p

I also think the new WR2 wallpaper he posted there is a cheap atttempt to woo 14 year old boys to put down their Playstations, and get Mom to buy WR2,as if we need more of those ass-crashers online.

I could go on,but I'll spare you any more verbal carnage ;)

See, the problem is we have to sell games to make the money quit we invested. Most people WANT this kinda design and we have to respect this. If we would have respected this in WR1 it would have sold to and in the US earlier.

What we try to do is keep the parts all people liked = SIM if you like and added Arcade for those who want to have it. You can put off all Arcade features and get what you are looking for : WR1 with a good menue design and speedfeeling and multibrand plus lots of cars and MP from Day 1 and tuning optical and performance and landscapes 3D interactive and high sophisticated damage model plus scratches and dirt on the car and an AI that is really challenging and does mistakes like a real player and opposite traffic that gives you a real world racing feeling. Puuuh...tha was long but there is even more.

By the way, the new arrows are more practicable than the old ones. They give direction what way to go and speed feeling green/yellow/red. You can switch them off if you want :=)

It only "costs" the cockpit view... Believe me, I have fun driving WRII. And again, you can switch all this off if you just want serious racing without the action part like traffic.

I hope this concept will work for both sides.

Ya can't please all the people all the time,Geezr. :D
If a company put out a game that made everybody happy, we'd still be waiting for it. ^_^
I have'nt seen the screen shot of which Geezr speaks, so I can't comment on it. However, what I have seen is very nice. -^
As far as the auto decorating goes, If the looks make you happy, go for it, or leave it be, your choice. As long as somebody can't go nuts on the physics and cheat.

Some sort of track editing would be a bonus though, even if we can just move barriers around.

Hi Tom,wb to Racerplanet, and thx for the fast reply. I'm sry if i get worked over the screenies and info I see about WR2,but we all want it to be as close to perfect as possible. -^ Some things needed to be changed from WR1,and Synetic has responded well to our concerns. But,I don't recall anyone saying they didn't like the direction arrows and to plz replace the small helpful arrows and replace them with huge things the size of a billboard. Yes,I could turn them off, just like I could turn off the old ones, but i like them,as they help my bad memory. :p

Re:the wallpaper for WR2,I have nothing against 1/2 naked women,or completly naked women, for that matter, but 1/2 naked girls my Daughter's age don't need to be on box art or wallpaper to sell a PC racing game.Word of mouth and being available in stores everywhere will sell it.Being moddable, like WR1 will sell it.Being free of bugs too.

Just more raving (dim)wittiscisms from RICamundo

I have played with the big arrowas and the old ones, for me the new style is much better and easier to follow. I will consider to have the old ons as an option but I will not promise anything. Pls bear in mind, the menue has to cover all this and we need to make the menue smart. Maybe as a cheat...!?

Taste is something personal and I agree, for us who are aged a girl in the age of a daughter isnt what we need to get attracted to a racing game. Others from 14 to 28 are attracted and other publisher are using the sexy girls tool too. This girl has won a competitin of the FHM magazine and is a nice person too. Just overlook it pls. We have to sing in the chorus with the same voice first before getting a first voice solo later...I love metaphers.

Wb Tom, I've tried to find screenshots of the new arrows but I can't find them, can anyone here show them to me? I also use the arrows, green = ok, yellow = prepare and red = slow down, hard, now! And it's great since there ain't no way I can drive even remotely swift without these unless I want to crash into every turn there is and on another point those arrows makes WR look a little like a rally-game, as if you have a navigator so you can concentrate better and I really like it.

I do however strongly dislike it if all races force upgrades to the car you want to drive, for off, I dislike most modern F'n'F-style visual upgrades (which I think actually downgrades the look of the car) and when the car is tuned so a Golf-I can outcorner and outpace a CLK-GTR then something is very wrong and the fun for me is gone. I do understand that this is what the public want and of course you guys have to make money so you can survive, I understand that and respect it, I just hope there's still an option for us old-school car-enthusiasts.

Best wishes and thank you for great fun and service

Frank, take a look at Code's site.Scroll down to where the link for "20 new screens from Gamestar.de" is. http://www.tasarinan.com/ you can see 2 screenies with examples of the new direction arrows. :?

Ric

Frank N. O.
01-27-2005, 07:08 AM
I think I've found several examples of them now. Like big floating neon-signs stationairy at the intersections and corners right? I must say also I'd prefer the old co-driver style arrows, but I see a theoretical improvement since there are several times where I in the thick of the battle with you and Fez have misjudged exactly where the corner was since it was over a hill so I couldn't see it and with stationary signs at the corner I could maybe see it better, but I'll reserve my final judgement until after I've tried the demo.

I do not like the unrealistic nitrous system I've now clearly identified in some of the cars, at least not if it's mandatory. At the official forum I saw some speculation that is was backfire, but I don't buy that, especially not after seeing he Super Seven-type car with it and I saw the rev-marker was over the redline since that means it can't be due to gearchange.
Btw Tom, is it possible to redesign that rev-scale? It's impossible for me to read it while keeping my eyes on the road because it's so small and it blends in with the red-line marking, that btw is also hard to read (I can't see exactly where the redline starts and therefore can't find the optimum shift-point).

One last thing, in WR1 you can stop faster without ABS than with it, and with ABS the car's wheels can still lock and you can get brake-induced oversteer, this is highly inaccurate imho. Just a personal note since I'm sure it's too late to change even if you agreed with me.

Greetings
Frank

Well Ric I'm sure they can be switched off, and that there will still be a free drive mode.

Oh yeah that reminds me: Tom, will there still be auto-steer in WR2? You know even with a analogue controller and all driving-aids off then it automatically counter-steers a bit.

The german game magazine "Gamestar" wrote about the
Nitro thing.There's a so called "Speedbucks" system.Doing
good overtaking or nice drifts=get points,shortcutting=loose points,enough points=nitro boost
is possible(like in "Flatout")

Wonder who needs this in WR(ok,ok money makes the world......

They wanted to make the game more arcade-ish and i guess nitro is a part of that.

I don't think there will be nitro in simulation mode :P
It can probably be turned off too.
Isn't it a great solution? If you don't like it, turn it off :P

01-27-2005, 02:26 PM
Oh no, that's just like one of the new modes in Ford Racing 3. I just simply cannot win that no matter how many times I try. I really hope that is a function that can be switched off and not a mode fixed to a championship because them I'll seriously consider not buying this game because I simply can't do it and I don't enjoy that type of racing anyway.

Pls check out Code XP´s WR pages (http://www.tasarinan.com/portal.php?sid=979a7a7cb835a7f6e0206a2a6a68cd8a) and search for the latest screenshots. There are a few with the new style of arrows.

You will be surprised but WRII is not too far away from MBWR in the terms you like. You dont need to tune your car or optically modify it. We keep 100% SIM and have for pre defined settings to make it into arcade. The new menue design will be easy to understand...

You will get a better product with all features a game needs to be fun from our point of view. We definately didnt forget the serious racers.

May will be a good month for a demo maybe :=))

Again, who is living close enough Düsseldorf Germany is wellcome for a visit and to play WRII and post the impressions into this forum.

We leave the doors open on WRII like we did on MBWR.

That sounds great Tom :D .
I hope there will be no limitations in game engine for cars/tracks/etc.. I wish everyone could join DL-cars pits without having full list of cars. I mean see current number of available cars, not a player can join on-line pits without downloading 2-3 missing ones. With this solved WR2 could be played forever :D

DC_Geezr
01-28-2005, 09:46 AM
Why is it that D/L car pits are separate from regular pits anyway? I think far more ppl would use D/L cars if it werent so frustrating coordinating who has what car.

One other important MP feature,Tom,can we have a central lobby with chat from Gamespy, instead of just a pit list? The IPLounge, created by 2 members of the PU community, not only has lobby chat,if you click on the pit name, you can see who is in the pit,so if you are looking for certain ppl,you can find them.Or to avoid certain ppl,if you know what I mean. :look:

Plz remember,a great game will only hold the interest of ppl for so long(especially the younger ones TDK is trying to get)so a really good MP is critical.BTW, a ban list, and a top 50 racers/MP stats for each track would be very helpful. ;)

Thx again Tom for working so hard on our behalf! -^ -^

a game only last's as long as there is a community, i was a member of GHG for some years but because it had no race ability it soon died..a sequel was in the drawing board but never made it, so therefore if you listen to the community and try to implement as much as you can then its a good thing...

@tom, will the fileformat be the same or what, because i've justworked out how to add cars to WR, also is there any chance of seeing a max plugin for WRII would make life alot easier...maybe even a development kit, like they did for Streetlegal

Too bad... But if you can make it happen one day pls let me know. Youre allways wellcome.

Btw... WRII is Arcade AND S I M. The Arcade features ( Traffic, Nitro, ASR/ABS/etc. ) can be switched off and the old arrows you can switch on if this makes you happy. There are "only" two jumping bridges in the whole game. Its a racing game and not a Skiflying simulation by car.

There are 5 steps/setting to make it Arcade based on the SIM mode... All physics are based on real physics in the game. Nothing has changed but has been modified based on experience and advanced programming. New physics are additional and influence the driving but I can not disclose this yet.

We dont forget our MBWR SIM fans from the forums but we have to look for additional customers and I am sure we can make both happy. Dont worry and wait for the feedback of people who took the chance playing WRII while visiting us. Two from NFBS are not living far away and maybe show up next week in my office to play WRII. Again, who wants to visit us is invited !

O well, I don't mind jumps, in fact I like them :D
Jumping sky high in Free Ride with a Batmobile can be fun too :P

I like both Arcade and Sim racing games so I won't have to spend my money on anything else than WR2 (and a new graphics card...) :P

Also, I think being able to switch lots of stuff on/off is a really good idea because in theory, everyone should like the game then.
