That isn't the nicest looking car, but man does it ever move! And the sound. Listen to it when they demonstrate the launch-control - it sounds like a Formula 1 V10 3.0L engine growling away angrily.

If only someone could stuff that hardware into a previous body style M5 Id trade in my retirement account for one. :)

As for the styling, here is a quote from a John Phillips article. He is listing words derived from the automotive world that will be in a dictionary in future years.

bangle (BANG-gul) v. To add flourishes that tend to detract from the whole. "They put a purple roof on the Louvre, and now the whole thing is totally bangled." :D

Downloading the video now, the car is ugly, but hey, with enough money you can stick that motor in anything, I mean companys have turned 1970 Plymouth Cuda's into V10 Viper powered beasts.

i saw a silver charger with a viper v10 on tv at a SEMA show. it was cool.
oh,yeah, back on subject, what motor does this car use? 4.0+ v8? V10? i saw an older M5 with a v10, all factory, it was pretty too, with the mesh deep lip rims, very nice car.

This new M5 is a 5.0L V10.

507bhp@7750rpm
520Nm@6100rpm
8250rpm rev-limit.

It even sounds like a V10 F1 motor when growling away on the launch control waiting to be set free. Just incredible.

A HSV Grange or Senator is half the cost and has almost as much power and similar insurance costs, but cheaper parts, I know which I'd go for.

They won't do 0-300km/hr in 40 seconds though. They won't even do 0-300km/hr. And over 100bhp less is far from almost.

Ok, it might nto have outright speed, but it has more torque and when are you EVER gonna go 300km/h in any car? I mean really, the LS2 motor could easily make an extra 100hp and stay just as quiet or loud, cos a V8 note is good. But really, a Grange, it is as big as a 7 series on the inside, simpler, Australian made, good looks and a massive motor, what more could you want on our australian roads?

Only 10Nm more isn't much, especially when faced with such a huge power deficit.

what more could you want on our australian roads?

Evidently, a BMW, Mercedes Benz or Audi. The Caprice is a rare sight. One sees more of those damn ugly 7 series than Holdens flagship model.

Funny, cos I see more Statesmans and Caprices and HSV's then BMW's fullstop.

Orright, agreed that HSV makes a car which is obviously a smarter choice if money and logical thinking is at the forefront of your car criteria, but you have to say, the M5 has infinitely more cred, cos its a BMW, and its an M5.

And apart from performance figures, the HSV couldnt match the BMW in all the features, just look at those M5 seats.

And in my opinion, the VY (and VY II) series Senator arent exactly what you'd call pretty (especially the VY Is and IIs). Id have a 5 series any day (if i had the money).

So, we can all agree that the M5 is very juicy. And the looks could be worse, you know.

The VZ is what I'm talking about, I dunno, saes seem to disagree on the styling lewi, they are selling more HSV's then ever, which means people like them, IMO a Calais looks awsome and if HSV would just simply stick a Senator interior and driveline in that, it would be the ultimate sleeper.

People who buy BMW's jsut for the badge are mindless trendy gimps and deserve to be ripped off, I see too many M3's in my area and travelling to and from school considering how much they cost, it's insane.

I mean if you like the wail of a v10 then it's all well and good, but what if your more traditional and prefer a beefy V8 note?

chris

Then BMW has the old M5 available second hand. ;) It should sound traditional enough. ;) (he's gonna be mad). ;)

Or a road-legal M3 GTR with a V8 engine in it. (super-rare!) I've never seen one of those road-legal M3 GTR's, and I doubt any made it here. Very special machine for those who simply must have an M3 more ferocious than the neighbours CSL.

lmao, ok, the older one ok, but still, it's worth more then a new HSV with more expensive repair bill......

lol, or if you were rich enough to buy an M5 in the first place, why not just get an HSV aswell!? :)

erm, most people are on finance on a M5. So I don't see the logic there.
