Hi All,
Seeing this is still a V8C forum, do you think the game has now dissapeared into the past? &(
What happened to the people back when V8C was the latest V8 game around...

Just wondered if anyone here still plays it? Or even modifies it with skins/textures?

Theres more, names like Portstevo spring to mind
Some names there moved onto that massive F1 mod
Others kinda stayed at places like RP
Others just vanished
Strange thing is I was thinking this just the other night ... where have all these people gone

Yeah V8challenge is pretty much dead. The V8COC (V8 Challenge Online Championship) is moving 2 of its 3 championships to the v8mod for f1challenge. Skaife, Cortina, VSV6, Acerlyte are all still racing it online. Most of the old v8challenge people have moved on to the v8mod. The latest skins that have been done were the ones for the 2004 Project Blueprint. A VZ commodore has been made by VSV6 which we are using in the v8coc.

It's a shame to think that V8C is starting to become extinct. :( I still create skins for V8C, however the skins that I create are a little more difficult because I try to find images of historic cars so that I can put them on today's models. Also the only gaming server for V8c (that I know of) is Internode which doesn't help. Compare it to Quake or Half-Life where there are plenty of Game Rooms. This is because more gamers enjoy the RPG games compared to the racing/driving games. It also doesn't help that there was very little marketing on V8C with EA not hosting any updates whatsoever.
If there was some way to revive V8C it would be great but I don't really see that happening. =[
And the fact it's a semit arcade compared to the F1c mod which is sim which is what people who race seriously want.
Spazzass, well he's off the forums' hes off living his life, but I still have his msn.

don't forget about me lol, also there was one other who turned v8c on its head,
how can you forget Jonwil, last i heard he was over @ RCT2.com. he'd made some tools for extracting graphics or something. i'm still here and there. GHG has also fallen over big time. the community went bye bye so i really don't do any modding...maybe when gta sa comes out or rfactor i may start up again who knows...
chris

rFactor will be awesome. The quality of mods for that should be amazing. I'll bet a few commercial operations will be in a panic when they see the mods being released.

I'm still around I just dont post very often as i no longer need to ask questions about the game.
Hmmm, it's funny how Crhis onyl posts when he wants to give a plug to rFactor, :P well anyway, there are other people around, but older games are dying as game makers target more on making the game look good then anything else.

01-12-2005, 09:11 PM
Yeah, I think a lot have gone on to the F1C V8 Mod, such as Mojoman, Portstevo, Canetoads...the list goes on.
Yes, I remember Jonwil as well as you Australian Made.
I know theres a lot more but I just can't think of their names. =[
Don't forget me ^_^
Its just the nature of gaming i suppose, people dissapear as fast as they come its just one of those things =[
But i must say that the PBP series and skinning that has gone on for the game has definitley legnthened its lifespan by a long shot.
Funny thing is, you see some of the original guys pop in and out of the lobby every now and again, and new crops of people come and go, its just a cyle i guess
Oh yeh, big surprise it lasted as long as it did
I mean there are still people racing with it other than V8COC members
However the lack of people showing up to the comp gives the impression that the game is dieing and people are getting bored with it
Especially know that there is competition for the game, I mean RD sucked and RD2 isn't much better for online play.
Annoying that it takes the modding community to make a decent V8 game
Cheers

Well I still visit these forums often but ussualy dont bother posting unless there is something important. I think the V8COC championship has probably kept people interested in V8C for another year. Our number of competitors kept on growing until this season when there was a huge slump in all competitions accept for one. If I ran V8C for another season in all comps I think we would probably be down to only a few racers and I'am still unsure if the championship that I have assigned to V8C next season will go ahead because it seems as though everyone just wants to move on.

People lost intrest with the lack of aussie and nz tracks. It would have gone further is was TRULY V8 Supercars instead of mix and match from your milkbar.

Yeh someone need to do a discontinued track Mod so we can live on the memories of all the tracks been taken off the calender forever.

It's true. Most of the pople who used to come to this forum have now left for greener pasturers (no offence) like as Shane said people are going over to the F1 Mod. I've got it and reacon its better than V8C due to the fact it has other aussie tracks other than Bathurst, Sandown, Adelaide and Queensland.
V8C is still a little popular due to the PBP series. That was the best thing that happened to the game. If someone can mod the tracks that would be awesome (I would if I could).
Thats about it for my 2 cents and I'll stick around for a long time yet.

Actually mate the V8 mod that most people are talking about is based on F1 Challenge, here is a link to that mod: ORSM V8 Supercar Mod (http://www.v8gaming.com/). It's the closest thing to V8 supercars you can play I reckon and with some mates online it's a real blast. A patch will be coming out shortly for it too, which will rectify some AI issues it has currently.
As for SCGT well Y2K pretty much covered that a few months ago when he opened the Aussie SCGT site that is in his signature. However I think that site is down at the moment, perhaps there is an alternate place to download the cars and tracks?
Hope that helps mate!

hey guys, been a while since i posted here, lol. yeah there seems to be a few of the V8C guys that have gone to the F1 V8 mod, guys like Mojoman, Canetoads and Portstevo were all part of the team that made the mod.
me i come back every cuple of weeks here and just read up on things, i havnt made a V8C skin in AGES! but i am doing skins for the V8 mod,
biggyg.v8gaming.com
my skins hav definately improved since my V8C ones, lol. but V8C was a great game to learn how to use the paint programes, with out V8C there is no way i wld b making skins now. i dont know how u guys hav managed to keep V8C alive and kicking for as long as it has, even more remarkable is that uv kept most of the guys hangn around here! V8c ws written off the day it came out and u guys hav kept a solid base of members that just wont go anywhere else. that shows the true spirit of the v8c community and itll b a shame when V8C does finally bow out and becomse obsolete, maybe EA will release another half arsed game that ya can barely edit, just to keep this community around for a few more years?lol

Actually, if anyone would like to make a link to my site they are more than welcome to and it would really help me. Just let me know so that I can return the favour.
Also, the only way V8C would die is if there was a mass burning. I don't see it happening.

lol,was a request from some one, so i just did it, i dont think iv ever even watched an entire moto gp race.
Zardos, under my links i just wanna have things to do with the F1C v8mod, if i put a v8c link then people might try to d/l ur skins and use them for the mod (believe me, there are people out there that would)

i tell u something else thats dead, this forum lol ^_^
Thats true ^_^ We just finished up on hte Fifth (gasp!) season of the V8COC championship last weekend and its certain that that would have been the last championship for V8 Challenge that we'll run.
I've actually found a lot more time to be on the pc than previous years now that school has finished and tafe takes a kind of slacker routine, buit its sure to crank up in the coming months;)
y2k seems to have stolen the limelight with his V8 Supercar forum so that may explain the lack of conversation around here because V8's is all we used to talk about here, oh and n00bs that came up with "one poster" problems ^_^
Turboginge
02-22-2005, 12:43 AM
I dont think "stolen" is the right word Boo
I think it was just that the limelight went with him.
His intention was never to steal posters away from here it just happened that way. Maybe people were looking for a change and he provided it.
Have you checked out the new superforum, i think i have seen your name in there.
anyways thats just my thoughts, i am not looking to start anything.
I've been in there, but its too much effort to get there :P

stolen, stealing, its all the same in the end ^_^
lol nah seriously I admit I havent been here for a while too, but I havent been playing any games for ages.
rFactors kinda gone quiet, dunno why
V8C is kinda gone quiet, I thinks I know why (its been quiet for ages)
V8RD and RD2 never took off.
Personally I dont want to touch the F1 mod, not even to skin. them guys are protective of outsiders adding onto their mod, and with all the time and effort that went into it I cant blame them
chris
02-23-2005, 06:03 PM
Stolen/stealing/taking the limelight.. All the same thing. I'm too polite to make an issue over it.
If it were any other forum, they'd probably have slapped a ban on you, and you might have got a sternly worded warning.
LOL, well, it doesn't matter much, just make sure you visit once in a while at least.

if the majority of posters have moved to Y2K's forum, why not make a V8C thred over there so that all the people that still play can still talk about the game and share skins, mods if they arn't comming here much. it may keep the intrest up.
But only if its not treding on someones toes here

I have actually suggested adding a V8C room in V8SF but I think Y2K said that he doesn't want people to stop going to RP.
Fair Enough!
Because this became less of a V8C area and more of a V8 Supercars area.
Mickcals
02-24-2005, 05:09 PM
well that will be because, nothing has happened lately on the V8C front.
Thats why this forum has become more V8 Supercar related rather than V8 Challenge
Y2kGoofball
02-24-2005, 07:12 PM
yeah but guys, I didnt setup a forum just to take our RP members from the forum here. If members here have a liking to what the V8SF offers, thats their choice.
I set it up because of the lack of V8 Supercar related forums, not to be in competition with Racerplanet or their V8 Challenge forum. If I'd done that it would involve the word V8 Challenge somewhere on the site!
I DO NOT have a V8 Challenge, or SCGT, or rFactor section in my forum. the V8SF has NOTHING to do with gaming, NFS, V8C, SCGT etc etc.
As Zardos said, yes, he did enquire about whether it'd be smarter to put a small V8C section on the forum and as he said, I said no, because if you want gaming your best off coming here to RP.
Ive got the links to both TotalNFS and RP on the site, and if questions are asked by members about gaming I would be directing them here. I'll be putting a link to V8 Shakes as well, ive just got to create a small 88 x 30 pixel logo/banner which is displayed on the V8SF index page.
I'll never leave RP and I dont want to start a war (be warned people, I DO NOT want to start a war lmao)
If anyones got issues about the V8SF and RP please talk to me, but I cant see why we cant get along when were acctually not in competition!

the truth is V8C is gone
its history
It was popular with audiences until Race Driver come out, because up until then it was the only V8 game avaliable with the exception of DJV8C and the odd NFS modded car. After that joke of a game was released (RD) people started looking at alternatives, ie F1C 99-02
Race Driver 2 come out which caused a bit of hype, but once again, it only lasted until everyone found once again it didnt deliver what was promised.
Meanwhile roumers started of a V8C 2 or similar, but thats all they were. It panned out being a V8C game with a free 1:64 matchbox scale 2002 Skaife car (not even the one on the box)
V8C was also offered in promos in order to get rid of it, it featured in a few 3 game packs or even given away free as a bonus in shaving packs.
V8C was fairly dead even when we did PBP, the only interested people were everyone involved in that and about 3 or 4 outside members!
And even now as we sit here moaning about V8C's history theres already talk going on about people modifying rFactor (the new game) or even Racer
Thats how we should be thinking, looking at better and newer games and putting all that energy we once had into that.
The V8 Mod is well known, why? Look what they did, and it took them ages, more then a year to complete

Sifted though a lot of the V8 challenge stuff on old hosted servers and found a link to VSV6 aka Mike's VZ Commodore skin and mesh set.

i'll have a look on my old computer later tonight to see if i have the actual zip for the VZ, as im not sure if those links are still working.
Here's the link of the VZ skin from these forums for the heads up :)

On the topic of PBP, in all seriousness had it not been for PBP i would have never found myself at these forums, and so deeply entrenched in the V8C online scene for as long as i was.
I had got the game a few months earlier about 2 years ago and was practically the first racing game on pc i had seriously played, and looked for mods for V8C in google. Came up with PBP, installed it and it seriously IMO was the bes thing since sliced bread at the time ^_^
Happened to stumble across these forums every now and again, and managed to spot a thread asking for people to join a v8c comp. I joined and to present still havent left! Well since then we have given V8C the flick for the F1C V8 Mod, but we're still with the same group of people.
It's been good fun while it lasted :D

Hi All, I haven`t been here for several months, maybe not at all this year. Definately V8 Challenge has gone into history and i think only mods of somesort (like F1C) are the future, as game makers can not make anything decent.
I personally think 2005 skins are pointless for V8C, but if someones wants it, go for it...
I want to start modding games with new textures/skins again but there arent any games out there worth it or a mod already has a skin creator who keeps them regulary updated.
