Ok, I would kill for that car (or even a good 1/18 version). Looks like Ford is gonna have to give the GT more power and Daimler Chrysler is gonna have to make the ME Four-Twelve if they want to be competitive :p
Yay for horsepower wars! :D

They could better take on the S7 with less weight. Build something weighing 750kg, and give it about 700hp and you'll easily better the Saleen.

Yeah, but they are yanks and they need have creature comforts, for the majority, cos they don't use em for what they are designed for, just for show like with Ferrari's and how the Lotus is.

thats faster than the F1. does anybody know the top speed of this car? im guessing around 220-230mph-ish. beautiful car, its a shame to know they are using a ford block:)

7 litres? no that's a LS7 or a 427 C5-R block, and the new Zo6 does 0-100 in under 4 seconds in first! and runs an 11 sec quarter mile, but that does come at a cost,t he engines are handmade, so not much more room for the aftermarket to work their magic dammit.

Once again, you have shown just how amazingly ignorant you are. I'm convinced that you must be the Aussie equivalent of the stereotypical American. ^_^

FWIW, the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo is 45kg / 100lbs lighter than a Porsche Carrera GT, and at 1330kg / 2950lbs, it's hardly an overweight pig. The non-turbo model is another 90kg / 200lbs lighter still. The Saleen is no fancier than a Carerra GT, Mercedes SLR, or any of the other current supercars.

And if you want a supercar without the "creature comforts", there is the American designed and built Mosler MT900, which weighs in at 1100kg / 2400lbs. That's hardly any more than a McLaren F1, and the Mosler has a price that is 1/6th that of the McLaren.

Yes, we do make supercars that are quite lightweight.

Nope, it's a Ford block.

We have a supercar in the making at 1000kg's and all carbon fibre and kevlar I'm pretty sure, with atm a Aussie designed V8 in it. Chris just likes things REALLY light that's all.

Yeah, I do like things really light.

I also disagree about comparing this Saleen with Mclaren F1. Anyone can build an S7 with twin-turbocharging, but very few could do what the F1 does.

An F1, despite being 10 or more years old, is only just slightly slower, yet takes 3 people, and their luggage, and it has a well appointed interior, yet weighs only 1138kg. An S7 can not do that.

You also have to remember that only just now are we seeing anything that is reaching the F1's level of performance. That shows you how far ahead of everything else it was.

Instead of comparing F1 to S7, compare this S7 to the new Koenigsegg CCR with 806bhp (it weighs 1130kg). It will do over 250mph. That's a better comparison, because it comes from the same period of time. :)

yeah, i ment to post as to why they call the s7 the first mid engine american supercar, when the Mosler MT900 was around first? the fact that it uses a vette motor shouldn't disqualifie it as a super car.

Actually the block was based on the Ford 427. Other than that the engine is all Saleen. And the Mosler MT900 was not the first American supercar. The Vector W8 Twin Turbo was. It had a twin turbo Chevy V8 that made over 600 hp and could push the car to 217 mph. Only a handfull were made. Also the Vector M12 with it's Lamborghini V12 also came before the Mosler MT900. Man I wish I was rich. I would have to get two S7's (the S7 TT and a S7R), along with a McLaren F1, Carrera GT, and a bunch of other supercars :p
Oh, and horesepower is horespower, regardless of how it is made IMO. I do dislike NO2 systems though...

Yeah, but then the indonesions bought Lamborghini and killed Vector.

Was Vector ever going to work? I think it had too much internal conflict.

Getting Lamborghini engines was a good move, even though some thought it was totally unpatriotic. Nothing wrong with a good 60° 5.7L Lamborghini engine.

But the first American mid-engined supercar would have been the Ford GT40 in the road-legal versions. ;)
