Just thought I'd mention these excellent replacement sounds for the standard Boeing 747-400 in MS Flight Simulator 2004:

(must be registered at Avsim to download them)

This is a very nice recreation of the distinctive sounding Rolls Royce RB211-524 engines. You've probably heard very something similar to this when a 747 or a Qantas Airways 767 (one of the few to use 767's with RR engines) has flown over your house for instance.

Update: Just been testing them for a few hours, and haven't finished the flight yet - but it has been long enough to not find any bugs with these sounds. They are much better than the standard ones included for the 747(actually 737 CFM56 sound-effects!)

It sounds very much like several RR engined 767's and 747's I've heard.

Man you're good. Turbine engines are just whines for me, while I've never heard a good accurate Cessna piston-sound. But I'm glad you're having fun :) I remember having fun like that with NFS4 and Racer in the old days.

Greetings

The sounds are actually that good, that you just want to let them idle back a bit, and then put the power on again, just to hear the wonderful sound.

What really makes these sounds is that characteristic purring "hum" when the engines are at moderate power levels. :D

You can easily pick the RR RB211 engines out from others, because they have a high pitched, shrill note in comparison with a lot of others.
