This only really involves nz's but aussies may be intrested
If anyone saw yesterdays paper (Herald) after the boxing day races there will be no more racing at springs this season at least because they cannot meet the 85db limit...How crazy is this 70 locals can destroy a 75 year old family tradition...I live about 2.5km from the speedway and yes you can hear it but hey I don't have a problem with it never had, just fumming at the head    :bomb: :bomb: : :bomb: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:
I live over 5km's from Sandown raceway and I can hear the noise whenever there is an event on, and I love the sound! But people tried to ban an event happening there over the easter weekend called Easternats, like Summernats, but more burnouts and less show, but they didn't get away with it thankfully.
All that needs to be done is a lot of people who want the races to still happen turn up at a council meeting.

yes but there were over 30,000 signatures in a petition in a few days, against it closing down. They were protesting around the streets nearby....and ONLY 70 no life useless wankers that decided to 'not to want it'.
And a lot of people say this but i'll say it again...
"Why buy the house next to or near the speedway, if you're not going to like the sound".
Its just like someone moving near Auckland Intl. Airport and complaining that the jets make too much noise!!! F sake!
And the only bloody reason these people don't want it is because if the speedway goes, their houses go up in price....thats the reason...only care about money. Not about all the FANS that have been going there for decades and decades and decades............man it pisses me off.
Now I hope that someone decides to open up another speedway down in Hampton Downs Racing Land in a few years time. Dragstrip, Racing Circuit and Speedway...I like the sound of that!
Merry Christmas to all btw...

Murph fan i couldnt agree more... its just another example of old fart council blokes doin wat they want and fark anyone else. First ts aucks now its these gits.
I have sed it once and i will say it again move the races down here to ruapuna where people appreciate it and love it.
As usual the beaurocrat penpushers have the power to decide the minority vote is the more powerful .. who gives a shit about the majority.
Nothin new there.
We need to renounce the monarchy and while we are at it oust our own government and live in a state of anarchy... maybe then we will see some sense in our country.
But then maybe not... I love New Zealand but there are a few idiots farking it all up for us both nationally and internationally... shame :(

Sounds like those locals and the councillors there saw the recent cancellation of the Auckland street circuit and are trying to make mileage off that. Dead set , what is it with the closure or pending closure of racing circuits about the place? Lakeside over here was closed for the EXACT same thing, and now you guys are copping it too. As you guys have already pointed out it all just comes down to money (increasing land values etc), it appears that's all the world wants nowadays...
A belated Merry Christmas too!

yeah and apparently Oran Park is closing down - to make way for housing development. Last v8 race will be 2005 season... :(
That's from lack of interest from what I heard, which sucks, they could use that for another summernats style thing and off street drags and stuff too.
Shame when this sort of thing happens
I totally agree, don't want to hear the cars, DON'T MOVE NEAR THE TRACK!
It's completely stupid
Where did you here about Oran Park closing? that is sad if it's true
I'll have to go in 2005 if it's the last race there ever
Cheers

At least I calmed down a bit before posting.
I really wanted to see this last event, but was too busy with other things.
I hope it's not really the last.
85dB is a joke. 95 would be a more realistic one.
My dad has made many TQ parts, in his work, such as metal suspension parts. All through a sponsorship. His owned company also used to sponsor TQ #21 before he had a nasty crash, and went a bit loopy &(. It was good to his company advertised on a car. :)
So governments/coucils have stopped V8 Supercars, Springs Speedway, and the future of Whenuapai airbase. Could be used for a race circuit or even commercial airport, after the government pulls out the few people left there, and drag them down to Ohakea. So instead of the normal 2006 or so deadline, to move, government has now announced, it has no plans now to move them till maybe 2010. That's what happens when you have an undecided political party, who can't be firm. And don't want to upset. They're changing their minds every 2 seconds to be on everyones side! Why won't people just see they're just useless.
As with all the others.
Oran Park going to be destroyed for a few houses? Sorry, but thats disgraceful. Couldn't they find some empty space somewhere else? Plus It'd save them even more money if they didn't have to tear things down aswell!!!
Some people's intellectual capacity are very limited, and I'd say their IQ number would be matching their shoe size.
Its appaling isnt it, Oran Park is one of the classic touriing car tracks, and i think is one of the highest counts of visits by the ATCC/V8SC. Simply swapping classic tracks for street-race extravaganzas isnt really favoured in my book, especially since Oran Park was recently upgraded too.
At this rate, i wouldnt be at all suprised if all the other purpose-built tracks fall away too, i can definitley see Barbagallo getting the chop sooner or later now.

Vote Oran Park 1 for SpringNats! Steamouts in the rain. I found out that Calder Park could not be closed due to noise but it was acctually the Public Liability issue. Calder Park couldn't be closed as it is in direct line with a runway at the Melbourne Airport, HAHAHAHAHA, Suck eggs morons who hate noise and moved close to it!
