Hi All,
Basically this topics about future v8 supercar games...
Seeing as

DJV8C released late 1990's
EA Sports V8 Challenge released 2002
V8 Race Driver 1 released 2002/3
V8 Race Driver 2 released 2004

what do you guys think will be next? Another Race Driver? Or do you think there will be another 'one off' game such as V8 Challenge was.

In my opinion, I think there maybe another different type (ie not made by Codemasters), but the only problem is, is that Codemasters has a contract with most teams. Though that doesn't really matter because in V8C they had Castrol Perkins and so did RD (unless their contract ran out or something). I also think Codemasters will continue to make v8 supercars games.
So in final, I reckon there may be some other type of v8 supercar game but Codemasters will still continue to make game, unfortantly because I don't really like Codemasters game as they are a lot more arcady and harder to Mod.

The F1C mod is the best one apparantly, I've yet to drive it myself, but I've heard things about it, and mostly good things about it.

its probably the most realistic mod i've ever played, they are very tricky to drive (entry understeer, exit oversteer, body roll, live axle) as in real life and the graphics are phenomenal, driver suits and helmets to dashes and interiors are done to a T.

only cons are that you need a good system to run it at full tilt and you need a wheel to appreciate the physics.

True that Monaro, but Vq, do yourself a favour and get it!!!!

Only little criticism is that it seems a bit too easy to roll, ie: at Wanaroo (sp?) the 3rd corner it's easy to flip it! =O

It's possible that you could have another V8 Supercars game, but have a similar thing to what we have in MS Flight Sim 2004, with well known, famous planes like B747 and B777, but painted in fictional liveries. Ever heard of Soar Airlines, Pacifica, or World Travel Airlines? Neither have I.

But that's the trick, because you cut out the need for expensive license agreements with individual teams, or, bypass the problems of other developers having license agreements with individual teams.

Rather than Holden Racing Team, why not GRT, as in Golden Racing Team. ;) You could have other obvious letter/word changes.

There will certainly be more V8 Racing games the Sport is too big to let go of.

As long as codemasters keep doing it or EA cos since psygnosis lost the F1 deal ( Back in the PSX years ) EA have blitzed them in gameplay and graphics.... in fact they really kicked them off the ball park.

(reminiscing here) I remember chasing M Schumacher in a Benneton and tryin to outbrake cars on the inside line and they just turn in anyway cos thats the racing line whether you are there or not... and backmarkers who just do not get out of the way. And the funniest was that the car handled better when you lost the front nosecone. Real good turnin then. I am talking about Formula One '95 here .... wow retro.

The one thing i would really like to see though is more work done on pitstops F1 99 (psx) came close and then F1 2001 (PS2) was good but still the idea of driving into the pits and suddenly jumping out of your car and running alongside it detracts from the overall driving experience.

Maybe CM orr EA will read this and take note.

if codemasters would make their V8 games as good as they made the CMR series then it would sell millions, the problem is the cars look so crap, handle crap and the tracks are not even worth looking at

The best bet for a proper V8 game is a mod for the new Imagespace race sim, rFactor.

If done properly, it would blitz all the others by a mile. Okay, it wouldn't have trendy drift modes in it, where you score points for drifting, but if you like realism, rFactor would provide the platform for that.

Yeah, problem is that people like me can't afford the computer, the game and a decent wheel to enjoy the sims :P

I remember the time when Codemasters made good games, sigh....

The mod-makers should be able to make mods that run acceptably well on lower spec computers - it's all in the creation of the LOD (level of detail) chains, reduction of mesh duplication, and utilising textures efficiently, while also keeping sound loops as short as possible. All of those things help.

You want objects that are further away to be shown at the lowest detail possible, that improves the frame rates big time. But some mod-makers hate doing LOD's because they are time consuming for one, you've got to not just poly-cut the meshes, but then re-map the things as well.

Major bummer, but if you get it right, the end users will thank the developers.

I can barely play V8C well, I used to very now and then (Ask Y2K and Mickcals, those were the days...) but because I am running a STOCK IBM Net Vista from January 2001, can play bugger all. Surprisingly though, Soldier of Fortune one runs sweetly.

The latest Mods (such as F1C) look pretty good. I wouldn't mind trying it out.

But about the real licenced games, I think Codemasters need to sit down and make a game purely focussed on 'V8 Supercars'. No trucks and NO WRC!!!!! Just V8 Supercars and which should be made as realistic as possible (such as cars, tracks, interiors, pits - the list goes on. Once they manage to produce such a game, I will buy it.

I must get F1C one day and try out this F1C V8 Mod. Probably the best & closest game i've seen to V8 Supercars!

hey Perko try it anyways because I'd love to kick your ass again

Anyway look, as soon as V8RD2 was released codemasters put a thread on the forum asking for suggestions 'should there ever be a rd3' which you could imagine the response

I can see Codies starting from scratch on a pure V8 game in the next few years, because they lost too many followerd with V8RD2 and know they wont sell a V8RD3 as well, even the fact they acctuallyt changed the name from Toca V8 Race Driver to V8 Supercars 2 indicates this

The f1 mod is ok, still weve got a decent spec PC and you need to cut down on graphics etc to keep it smooth. Yes, they do roll too easily

My only other criticism is with the game engine itself, and thats for guys like me or Mickcals or Perko we dont want to go buggering around with setups, velocity, acceleration curves etc, we just want to run the bloody game, click race and go, which in F1C you cant really do as you need to tune and setup the friggin car!

Still tho this was a mod and not an acctual game

I dont think EA will be releasing one, not since they lost all the contracts (well all the major ones anyway). I think theyve only got PWR now as all the other teams are either non existant (ie Briggs Motorsport) or gone to Codemasters, but on the back of the Xbox and PC packets is a graphic of the #50 Team Brock Betta Electrical VX, only problem is the front of the car had EA Sports!

If youve got a legit copy of the game have a look on the back of the box, the Team Brock car is there but its not in game!

Otherwise I can still see mods coming out in the future

I only just recently got into the V8 mod for F1C, and I can tell you it's a ton of fun. Got a few guys from the V8COC running it too, and we have a ball handling those monsters round the fantastic tracks. I'll admit at first it was a little hard to play but like most things with practice comes improvement, and to be honest I haven't touched setups yet (except a couple of pre built things). I just can't wipe the smile off my face when I am hooting round hidden valley or wanneroo between a couple of cars fending off people behind and trying to make a move on the guy in front, it's really fun stuff!

Get a wheel, some mates and the mod. You won't be dissapointed. -^

We have about, what? one modeler here, which is me, it isn't that hard to make a few different LOD models for the 05 season, the skinning would be the hard bit, making them at least, if we could get a mod done for SCGT, we need to do it this holidays to prove we can do stuff, then we could move on to 05 stuff?

forgot to mention rFactor as chris did, that should be the next level of V8 supercar realism. interestingly as well the ORSM team are planning on making every racing level raced on a V8 Supercar weekend including V8 Brutes and Aussie Racing Cars.

Mantorp park in the DICE cars???

Yeah, I want to see the BRUTES, not that hard to make a class of it, but the fact that it isn't part of the same weekend as V8's because it's run by procar.

Yeah, well thats what Toca World Touring Cars used to be like. Fictional liveries on Falcons and Commodores.
Same goes for (I think) that Nascar 2003 season and Nascar Thunder. Thunder is the real one with real life liveries etc, and 2003 season is just made up, but still is a good game apparently.
So it is possible another company can make a v8 game.

2003 Racing Season has offical teams and drivers in it
Not sure about NASCAR Thunder as I don't own it, and it apparently sucks haha :D
