View Full Version : NFS UG2 - Good or Bad? jtace 11-23-2004, 12:01 PM Just thought it'd beinteresting to see what people think after playing the game/demo of NFS UG2. Just keeping it simple, is it good or bad? :) Radical-Al 11-23-2004, 12:31 PM even though some of the cars didn't carry over from the first one, it has a great mix of cars and its pretty cool... I hope that online gets as big as the last one though. jtace 11-23-2004, 01:07 PM Yeah there are some changes I'd have lobbyed for as well, but as a whole I think it turned out rather well. :) Justin Martin 11-23-2004, 01:36 PM Overall, I was supprised by how good of a game it is, and I think it's better than several of the previous NFS games. It's definitely worth buying for those who aren't completely turned off by the car selection. jtace 11-23-2004, 01:48 PM Good point, I do think it's much better then NFS HP2 to name one in particular. Sepecat 11-23-2004, 02:21 PM I like it... Better than the First.... Well some cars just suck others are good.... But I still think there should be more cars... I'm sure you can do without the H2 the Nav and the Caddy.... Justin Martin 11-23-2004, 03:52 PM Yeah, I could do without the SUV's, particulary since the body addons for them seem even more bizare than the ones for the cars. I'd tried out the Escalade and H2 with the idea of using one as a dedicated photo shoot car, so I could keep my regular cars (mostly) stock bodied. I ended up using a 240SX as my ricermobile photo shoot car. chris 11-23-2004, 06:59 PM I won't say good or bad, but give it 85%. If the drag racing mode was better, and didn't have that artificial steering help/control it would have been higher, like above 90%. nighttraveler 11-23-2004, 08:01 PM good storylines, average car selection, superb game modes... thats all i have to say... its good Australian Made 11-23-2004, 08:49 PM i'm impressed with this game. i took a look at the first ug and thought it was complete rubbish but this one is great. i love the story line. the only downside is the drag as previously mentioned...and the fact that you don't see brooke burke aka rachel anymore than just an image bummer lmao...sorry lol... i give this game a firm 9 out of 10 Mickk 11-24-2004, 08:31 AM I downloaded the demo over several days and have been giving it a pretty good thrashing in the last day or so. The steering/handling is very much like the first game and that's not all bad. Graphics have improved a fair bit too and I love the variable weather, when it starts raining, you *know* that road is going to be slippery. If the demo is any kind of indication, I'm going to spend more time just driving around the various roads and places than anything else for a while. Gotta love the 'drive where you want to' thing, even on the circuit racing you can take short cuts and 'drift mode' is better too, point to point on a road with traffic is way better than the circuit version of it, although no doubt there will be a similar thing somewhere in the game. All in all, this looks to be the best driving game released by EA since PU. I'm going to grab a copy of this game, just as soon as I get other more important stuff out of the way -^ chris 11-24-2004, 12:22 PM i'm impressed with this game. i took a look at the first ug and thought it was complete rubbish but this one is great. i love the story line. the only downside is the drag as previously mentioned...and the fact that you don't see brooke burke aka rachel anymore than just an image bummer lmao...sorry lol... i give this game a firm 9 out of 10 Hehe, I'm surprised she didn't get a bigger role in the game. ;) [XR]SUE52 11-25-2004, 05:08 AM Good! Even the Drag is gooooooooooooooooooooooodish. But I need some guidance on how to get the high Drift scores again using my dear Momo, I seem to have completely lost the knack. Sue  :Peace:  DJSparrow 11-26-2004, 03:13 AM I used to suck at drifting and dragging in nfsu, but now in nfsu2, I own at it. It's great. Awesome game. AccadaccA 11-26-2004, 06:28 PM Surprisingly, after the first NFS:U, I voted "Good" I think they have really done a lot better with the cars, the engine sounds and that map is truly spectacular! Of course having the rebadged Holden Monaro (a.k.a Pontiac G.T.O) was a HUGE step in the right direction. Just wonderin' if anything I said a kazillion times over had any influence on including the thumpin' V8 to the ricer line-up? I'm convinced that E.A are tapped into my thoughts as I've been designing a game with many similarities as NFS:U2. The same shit happened with Rockstar releasing "GTA Vice City" 6 years after I thought of it. :( I have the proof burnt on a CD. Anyway, I am just as frustrated with the Underground sequal but it offers many choices to events etc. and that is great. I think it needs to be more forgiving with the speed & handling of some AI cars in a few events (make it easier) and a nice touch to balance it out would be to include DAMAGE so those who do drive well are rewarded by keeping their wheels turning whilst others need to pay for repairs. I would like to see the occasional cops in this. Say once in every five or so events. Well done E.A. -^ -^ -^ edit : Oh yeah, and ditto to what DJSparrow said. Isleth 11-27-2004, 07:37 AM the only negertive i can think of with what i've seen of this game so far is that you have to be very good at all aspects of this game or youll only get so far (as I have time for me to call on mt m8's who are into Drag racing I hate it with vengence lol) its a shame that EA have made it this way because it will stop ppl from geting it. sweetmusicman 11-29-2004, 12:21 AM WOw...first off I can’t believe that I have the game this soon. I believe I am the first one here in Namibia to have it.... I t really needs a celebration... About the game...I love it...much much better then the First one in general. I love the URL, SPRINT, CIRCUIT and mostly the OUTRUN. I just can’t seem to ignore invitations from opponents...thought I’ve lost a fare amount of outruns also:D I finished level 1 and 2(some of the races I found thought a short cut on the world map) :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: I however ended up in a cul de sac as there are no more races and I `m bankrupt. Please help, what now, how do I move on to the next level or set of races. I’ve also noticed that I didn’t get BANK/MONEY for races that I finished thought the world map-Is that right or is it a glitch? And what’s up with these special events? When I get there some guy/lady send me off to another shop or place to get a special part or get hook up with a certain photographer. I never make it in time cause I don’t know what icon to follow- When I accept I see a yellow cross and a triangle situated right on the big circle surrounding the map. Anybody that can help with instruction on the above mentioned, please help? I `m stuck! I guess I would not get refunds for trading in my corrola? VQ 11-29-2004, 02:27 AM It's ok, but the fact is, I did a drag that said lasted 19.56 and I timed it and it lasted over 1 minute, it is running REALLY slowly, even on absolutly lowest graphics settings, but still, I found some cheats and I think i'll just find a complelted save game to play in quick race mode with the GTO going really slowly. It's good, the whole thing where you can adjust your suspension and bit of torque value is good, plus when i have it on drift settings (stayed on it since I found it) it has good camber and steering for me, cos I prefer to just drift then race. FeZ 11-29-2004, 03:44 AM Finally got a magazine DVD with the Demo. Well not my cup of tea. Better than the 1st one, well yeah, did not need much. Graphics effects are nice, driving with wheel is better than 1st. Drifting seems like pure coincidence (crashing counts, swerveing over the road, sliding around walls counts ?), no controllable drifts with wheel that is. Maybe it plays better with KBD as many say, but that disqualifies it in my book as a racing game. Judgeing by the Demo it is still BAD. VQ 11-29-2004, 03:55 AM It's a arcade cum race game basically, but yeah i don't use the steering wheel for either of these NFS games as it was damaging the motors from forcing it the wrong way while I still controlled it and it got annoying. [XR]SUE52 11-29-2004, 04:59 AM Hi ya Sweetmusicman, to get to the special events you should try to use the GPS system in the map mode. On my PC you have to press M, then left mouse click on the Yellow Star item which should be flashing and this should bring up the option to activate the GPS which will give you a great big direction arrow while driving to guide you to your selected destination. Also check your progress by pressing T to see if there are any races, places etc you may have missed which may be stopping you from progressing up the levels. I too have noticed that you do not get any cash reward for completing races via the world map arghhhhhhhh , the answer seems to be don't do the races via the world map but search them out while in career mode. Best wishes and always have lots of fun Sue  :Peace:  DJSparrow 11-29-2004, 11:11 AM I sometimes get rewards by doing races via the world map, but not for hidden races. Isleth 12-02-2004, 04:36 AM To get the reward by using the world map you have to do the races twice then you go back to Explore Mode which will put you right in front of your garage a bit of a pain but at least you get the credits lol NX-59650 12-14-2004, 08:48 AM I think NFS:UG2 is very good. They finally got rid of the "track selections", those things always annoyed me. Also, the cars look very nice in the game. Only 2 complaints: 1. It always feels like the cars are steering "heavy". 2. Where are the cops? I like hot pursuits! Especially with those massively tuned up cars! JeffR 12-26-2004, 05:39 PM I like it... Better than the First.... Well some cars just suck others are good.... But I still think there should be more cars... I'm sure you can do without the H2 the Nav and the Caddy.... You need these if you want to run the SUV races in career mode. In stages 2, 3, and 4, there are 3 SUV races. In stage 5, there are 4 SUV races (although only 3 appear until you run one of them), including 2 drifts. I use the Navigator for the SUV races, it's the fastest of the 3 SUVs. JeffR 12-26-2004, 05:42 PM SUE52']But I need some guidance on how to get the high Drift scores again using my dear Momo, I seem to have completely lost the knack. Try this setup: Suspension - all settings far left except for front sway bar, and steering ratio, set both of them far right. Tires - front with 0 grip, rear with 70% to 100% grip. Gearing, set first gear to about 55 to 60mph and only use 1st gear. JeffR 12-26-2004, 05:45 PM I sometimes get rewards by doing races via the world map, but not for hidden races. I too have noticed that you do not get any cash reward for completing races via the world map Just interrupt the race and restart it. You'll get cash and rep points for world races this way. Mickk 01-01-2005, 07:49 AM Well, I got the game for Christmas and didn't install it..... until the next day. This is a great sequal to the original game, it even does a good job of working the storylines together. How good is this game? Well, it's the first driving game in a long time that has had me playing it almost all the time I was awake, I really wanted to see how it all ended. Good graphics (but you need a pc with some serious grunt to play with all of the eyecandy turned on), good difficulty levels (I played right thru without even checking to see what level the difficulty was at, turns out it was medium!) AI is better than I expected and downright cheeky at times. Sprint, the new point to point Drift, Street X and Outrun are all a darn good idea and fun too. The way you get more 'tweaks' as you put better and better gear on the car is something I like too, just as I thought there wouldn't be any more stuff to fiddle with, another set of sliders gets added into the mix. No major grumbles with the game either, the only real one being that the game needs a computer with a lot of 'horsepower' to run with everything on. My opinion? The best driving game EA has released since they bought out NFS:PU. TIP: To get *all* of the races, leave the URLs until the very last. Also, win THREE Outruns on stage 2, NINE Outruns on stage 4, SIX Outruns on stage 5. In each case you will get a message from the person you beat telling you to 'go to the star and you will get more details'. Do it and then race the clock to the Performance shop to get your UNIQUE performance upgrade. Emmo 01-15-2005, 10:39 PM I think the game is no way near long enough (e.g i bought san andreas a while bfor and i was playin it non stop and it still took me aaaaaaaages to complete it but this one i been playin not as much and i have already finished it) i think there should be way more cars, no where near enough, i think the gameplay is prity good but i feel there should be more different modes of play. Aussie Muscle 01-18-2005, 06:19 PM 2. Where are the cops? I like hot pursuits! Especially with those massively tuned up cars! In my opinion, EA have things backwards with Hot Pursuit vs Underground. To me, illegal racing would get more police attention than normal racing (i find it hard to believe that expensive and rare supercars would be used for illegal racing). It would also fit in better with 'Fast and Furious' where they all scatter when the cops turn up. As for UG2 game, i didn't think it all that different from the UG1. the feel of the cars is same as first game, just a tarted up in some areas, but not vastly different (those that hated the first one and love the second one need their head examined). &( Apocalypse 01-18-2005, 10:14 PM UG2 had very limited playtime on my part, i finished the game in under 2 days!, maybe because i got abit obsessed, whenever id have to drive somewhere, my girlfriend would drive just so i could play on the laptop in the car. once i unlocked the GTO in the career mode, it was all over, i modded every little bit of that car to my exact spec. after everything was unlocked, it was boring, racing random street racers lost its fun, no cops, traffic wasnt overly difficult, drift events werent that good. city was smaller than i originally thought, camera angles left too much for the imagination. but it was as i expected. tuning the cars was true to NFS style, arcade, quick and easy, as NFS isnt exactly a simulator, its more of an action/arcade racer with more options. im still hanging out for GT4, been on pre-order for near 6 months now! BladeCar 01-30-2005, 12:51 AM As a whole game has gone right Miata 08-04-2005, 02:22 PM We, Russian intelligents, Oleg Gassodov and Peter Zmave, are fond of NFS U1 and 2. The first was really hot, while the second one is more curvy and needs rather good brakes. The cars are tuned differently: 400 bhp is fine for Sentra, but RX-7 may give 1000bhp with 2 rotors (since we know dragsters 3 rotors giving 1500 bhp). Miata is no doubt the fastest. I'd like to drive 787B over those tracks! Miata 08-04-2005, 02:28 PM Let's boast about what we've got! The subject: racing without nitrous and without touching the walls. I run Marathon (the last sprint) in less than 2:51 (do not remember precisely). What about you. Remember: no NOS, no bumping. I do it in MX-5. Transmission - 200 mph at the 6th gear. Miata 08-04-2005, 02:38 PM Do you know, the 787B may give plenty of power, even if it's got no turbo? Rev it up, and it gives 930 hp at 10,500. And it increases dramatically. Add turbo, rev up to 20,000 and inject some NOS and you'll get 10,000 hp. Only one problem remains: transmission! it will be crused into dust by such a mad power! |
