Hejsa (swedish-derived danish greeting)
With all this hype about drifting then I remembered that we here in The North (the nordic countries/Scandinavia) have had the necessity to learn advanced driving techniques due to the local climate to handle the elements of snow both around and on the roads. Of course being from Denmark I'm not really a real snow-driver like my brothers and sister in Norway, Finland and Sweden but still I have driven in surprise blizzards where even the main roads where covered in snow despite our seasoned 24hour road-service. Why I dislike it now is more the fear of getting rammed by the disturbingly high number of reckless drivers than the problem of driving slow and on slippery surfaces.
I was wondering if there are any videos online showing driving technique on snow and ice roads with either fwd, rwd and awd cars? Note: I'd prefer responsible and skilled drivers, not young wannabe FnF show-offs please, but I doubt there'll be many here anyway.

There was a video of a Porsche going round the snowcovered Nurburgring posted here some time ago.
Other than that I havent seen any videos of talented snow driving.
And of course there was the snow-tow video ^_^

I'll try to search for the Porsche-video thanks.
I don't know what snow-tow video you refer too, but it doesn't sound professional so if you don't mind I'll pass on it :D

Very funny Georgie, I meant professional, skilled, responsible snow-driving, not illegal lifethreatening high-speed highway videos.
Now that Porsche-video, that was awesome!

And the Porsche was only a 996 Carrera 2, not a Carrera 4. :)
I haven't seen any online, but I do know what you mean. When I was about 15-16, I ran a few "Ice races" on the river near my home. The worst thing we could do was 15 MPH into a snowbank. ^_^ Was a lot of fun though. :HB:

God morgen Frank :)
It's minus 6C and it's snowing here now, wind from north makes it a blizzard :D
If you want to see free videos from Autofil (norsk car-program, norwegian voice), you must register (NRK, norsk riks kringkasting), if you want to see some pro driving on snow, it's the only I could find this morning.
To find the videos, look at leftside menu at this url http://www.nrk.no/autofil/
click on LYD og BILDE link, now you get the player popup, when you open the player you see "NY BRUKER" button on top-bar in the window.
After register you get registercode in mail, then you can login.
In the Video MENU, choose the folder named "Vår 2003", then click on folder named "PROGRAM 6", then click on Cayenne ;)
First half part of video is presentation, rest is testdriving by STCC-driver Tommy Rustad, driving on a icecovered lake.
The video includes a 360 and some other nice maneuvers.
Program also have some snow driving with Volvo XC90, and VW Touareg.
These 3 cars are driven with steelspiked tyres (ordinary nordic winthertyres with spikes)
Another program with 3 tests of 3 different cars on icetrack using rally ice tyres; Folder 2004, VÅR, program= Autofil 21.03.2004
One of the cars is BMW 320 serie with RWD, they also show one lap using Nordic winther tyres without steelspikes to compare with racing ice-studs.
The third car is Subaru WRC STI with streetplates.
The video of the red 911 996 Carrera on The Ring is great RWD show even with those autobahn tyres (the cold snow makes the grip very good)
Have a nice day!

Hej Mads, thanks for the link allthough I may have to retry again since I had to close the computer down before I got a registration number in the email. I waited quite a while but it didn't show before I had to close it. I couldn't find a link to complete registration again sadly :(

Hi Frank,
I had to use IE to register, with Opera it would not work for me. What browser do you use?
After registration the Opera browser works fine.
I hope you manage to register because the Autofil arcvhives are full of cool cartests, with much humor included :-)
You couldn't find the registration link again???
http://www.nrk.no/autofil/ , click on leftside menu-link named LYD&BILDE, when the mediaplayer window appear, click on NY BRUKER in topbar of the player

ROFLMAO!!!!!!
I used my other email so I could hopefully get the number quicker, and it worked.
I started the latest magazine and boy that bald guy with the glasses is so hilarious. Do all norwegians talk like they are singing? A bit like japanese actually, very singing and very emotional and swining in the notes.
But that was nothing compared to what I saw later. This is REALLY Nordic and not english or american. While testing that mini Iceland-off-road Jimny, he demonstrated that it also had both a place to eat, and get rid of it again. He pulled his pants down and went to the lou, and something dropped in the bag too!!!!!!!!! I laughed so loudly I got a tension headache from it.

Hehehe, glad you like it maty :D
The bald guy is very hyper, so he is making the singing more marked.
Frank, you just MUST look at "Nils bliver racerbilsjåfør", a serie from this fall programs of Autofil ^_^
Nils is just so hillarious, joking all the time :-) , he tries to learn drive racing in a Ford Sierra Cosworth, not the easiest car for a rookie, hehe.
THen not forget to look at folder VÅR2003, PROGRAM 6, there is the winther test of the Cayenne.

Oh I've seen plenty. Focus RS, Focus ST170, Impreza WRX, 206 GT, 206 RC, Porsche Cayenne, Alfa 156 Selespeed, very interesting. It really makes me want to take a ride to Norway, it seems so beautiful and more natural and peaceful than here, but it's all dreams.

I saw some more clips, the classic Sierra RS Cosworth and the Legaxy LX and the later showed some cool snow/ice-driving. Subaru really seem to know a thing or two about handling suited for The North  Also I love the roar of a Boxer-4 like only Subaru can make them, especially in the Impreza Turbo he also tested used (you know the hyper-one, really hyper! ^_^ )
A shame Subaru is practically non-existant here in DK, the 2L 125 2001 Legacy LX seemed to have fully adequate performance for me and it's not a WRX, STI or Turbo so insurance should not be impossible.

If you want to see and drive Norway, I recommend summer season, because then you can even sleep for free in tent if you want (as long you stay out of sight from houses).
And maybe I can help you with some houseroom too if you decide to come. (It's amazing how much there is to see during a compact 2-3 day trip when using Oslo or Telemark region as departure area) Please do not forget that Frank ;-)
I guess the cheapest way to go from Odense is driving up to Fredrikshavn and then take ferry either to Oslo or Larvik, outside touristseason and holidays the tickets for ferry is really nice ;-)
You can also check prices for Fredrikshavn-Gøteborg AND Grenå-Varberg.
The highest cost for you to make a cartrip in Norway is the gasoline during driving and the ferry tickets from DK-NO.
If you want to see Norway blooming, come mid to late May, if you want garanteed warm weather, come in August (but in August be aware of all the german housemobiles, hehe)
Or you can come here without car, let me take you for a ride because I know some cool places and I love to share them with people who like scenery (scenery makes passengers stum, that way it's easier to listen to the music and hear engine bella without losin focus on road :D )
If you wanna see the pearls of norskie roads you either have to be with a geek like me or you need 100% accurate guiding, because the rawest roads is the old and hidden ones.
Example: Driving from Oslo (east) to Bergen (west) 520 Km is "boring" if taking mainroads, but along mainroads there are alot of tunnels (esp at westside). For every new tunnel there is usually a old route going over the mountain, and that is the road you wanna drive (and see).
The scenery you see on most of the mountainlike terrain in Autofil tests at ordinary road is in a range of 250 Km from Oslo, alot of the winther tests is made in Telemark where I grew up :) (guess why I am a cardriving geek) :D

And, do not forget looking at 2004 fall-season "Nils becomes racing driver", there is 4 episodes so far ^_^
I like 1st episode, when he arrives the shop where the Coswort is garaged, Nils is saying to the owner; " I was hoping to find a racecar for sale, a car owned by a retired married couple or like" and "I do really not hope you have been doing some hard driving with this car?"
And the Volvo joke; "I have heard that they use Volvo's for racing and that they appear to work ok, but this is for national television broadcasting so it's obvious that Volvo is out of question" ^_^ (for the non scandinaves who read this, this is a Sweden-Denmark-Norway joke thing, we love to joke with our neighbours )
