some of you may remember a while back when i mentioned i might be getting a 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback, after things with the Hyundai Elantra went bad ( Blown transmision, not worth the $1400 to replace).
well i turned 16 yesterday, and i was presented the title to a red 5-speed 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback!!!!! The car belonged to one of my parents friend's at church. i had messed with her before to let me take it for a spin. the car always had problems with it and she told me she was gonna give it to me and let me fix it for her. turns out she gave me the car for keeps.
BTW: before i turn into a hypocrite, i retract all of my previous Anti-honda statements and will be offended by any future statements of that nature!!^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
sorry, no pics from my b-day, i"ll upload some pics of us and the car once i take it into delivery, which should be sometime this week.

Poor you, the only FWD I'll buy will basically be VW or Audi Golfs and A3's because they both rules and the Golf was the first with the hot hatch concept, and they are tough as anything.
I'd not put any money into the car man, save up for something decent and easy to work on, like a Camaro :p

Shall I change your status to read "Honda Fanatik"? :D Congrats on the first car, I know you'll love it. :racer:
The nice thing about Honda's, if you want to modify them, any part you desire can be bought off the shelf. Contrast that to old RWD Celicas, or even the Z's to lesser extent, where you have to create much of your own mods. (for example, you'd probably never guess that with a slight amount of machining, a strut tower bar from a 240SX will work on a '82-'85 Celica - that's how resourcefull we have to be)
VQ, I eagerly await news on what your first car will be. A '90 Honda Civic, while perhaps not the most impressive car in the world, makes a pretty nice first car.

A Honda is always usually a good car.
I used to know someone with a couple of original Civics, and as far as I know, they are still running fine.

^_^ no thanks, you can leave it Nissan Fanatik, im always nissan at heart.
I'm happy with it, i already have plans for the car. About anything u want is avalible, like you said. i've already got a couple set of rims im looking at. the set i choose depends on the color i paint it (gloss black or royal blue). i'll post pics of the rims probably tomorrow, or after i get the car. I'm either gonna switch to a B16a head, or find a B20 out from a old prelude. i'd rather have a 2.0 than 1.6. its gonna be pretty much stock for a while, cant put all my cash into my car, i still gotta buy stuff for my girl, buy shoes and other extra stuff i need. Im not getting a body kit, i prefer the stock body work, unless i get the Mugen Flared kit. Oh yeah, cant forget the 15 im throwing in the hatch. gotta show off while cruisin^_^

Yeah, that's the thing I dislike about cars like the civic, every part is off the shelf and there is no such thing as indivual, which is why i like muscle cars, lots of stuff off the shelf yes, but you still get things made for your own devices.
Yeah, in about a year and a half I'll prolly have my first car, most likely now a MK1 Golf GLD, just for fuel economy and cheapness, because Dad had a 81' passat GLD so he can help me with the motor and you can get 750l to a 40 litre tank.

Having so many off the shelf parts is a good thing.
But usually with a Honda, almost everything runs as it should without needing to be changed or adjusted. A good thing I suppose for a lot of people.
They tend to have a reputation for quality.

I meant in the aftermarket Chris, Toyota's have the same reputation, Nissans don't though, at least on the imports, people have to own a laptop to be able to fix them up all the time.

When you see the prices on, and the amount of work that goes into, having parts custom made, you'll appreciate having off the shelf parts available...
As far as your comparison to muscle cars goes, I don't know about in Australia, but here there's no major difference between, say, Civics and Camaros in the amount of aftermarket parts. I have a cousin who's restoring a '69 Camaro, and it's amazing what all is available for them. There's companies that sell complete bolt-in rack-and-pinion conversion kits, IRS conversion kits, auto to manual conversion kits, pretty much anything you'd want.

One of the newer model Chevy S-10s for me. :HB: By the time i turn 16 i should have enough for my S-10. For me i wanna get airbags for a really nice low look, new grill, new rims, build a custom dash with screen and computer hidden somewhere in the car for playing tons of mp3s and entertainment to with usb ports in the dash, mouse pad intergrated into the centre console beside the shifter or something, also gotta find somewhere creative for the keyboard... And with winamp i can get a game pad, take it apart and put the buttons in the dash and TA DA! I can fast foward, rewind, pause etc winamp using buttons on the dash. And i want a cover for the bed to, not a fabric cover, the hard covers. And i'm thinking of having it black or someother nice darker colour so it's stealthy with lightly tinted headlights and tail lights for a stealthy evil loo. :D I got big plans and alot of custom work i plan to do, so much of it will be affordable since i don't need to buy a welder, compressor, etc... My school has a lift that lifts from the frame to where you can stand under it and work on your car, they got tons of welders, lots of tools, and even a machine shop with cnc machines for those nice details on the dash. I can't wait for my S-10, i've actually been thinking of buying it earlier and starting sooner.
I nearly wet myself when my neighbour pulled up oneday in his new S-10, witht the exact colour i wanted and even with the sidestep i wanted. Thing can really boot it for a rwd 4cyl engine truck. And i love how even stock the tires are nice and wide. Not little bike tires like on the Hondas :p

For the muscle car market here, there are a lot of pre-made parts ready for use - hand your money over, get the part and install it sort of thing.
And then of course you have the other modding options like chip-tuning for your E320 or A6 or whatever else. Companies like Brabus, MTM will do that sort of stuff. An MTM tuned A6 starts up with only a slightly more purposeful burbling idle, but otherwise is as refined as an ordinary one.
Your tuning options are quite massive if you choose a German car. Only thing to be aware of are the black-sheep of the tuning industry. Stick with trusted companies and you'll be right.

Same for the Jap car industry, but for Holdens and Fords, which is what is being discussed, some stuff is off the shelf, the newer models especcially, but they older ones, parts are getting harder to do stuff with, unless you use later model factory parts.

i'd rather have readily avalible off the shelf parts because i dont have to worry about it not fitting, and i dont want to pay all that extra cash to have somthing custom made, cause we are real world, everyday people that dont have the cash to throw away on a custom made part that works as good as a "off-the-shelf" part.
I got big plans and alot of custom work i plan to do, so much of it will be affordable since i don't need to buy a welder, compressor, etc... yeah same for me, hydralic lifts really are a good thing!!
I've decided im going to paint the car gloss black because i have fell in love with a certain set of RS limited 6 spoke racing rims that are gloss black with a chrome lip, and they are "only" $700 for 17's w/tire's (some cheap Hankooks, I'd rather have bridgestone's or nitto neo-gen's).

I like these, there similar but alot differant the the stock S-10 five spoke rims, if left stock with the 5 spoke rims i'd still love the look of it in the weeds with a C channel in the rear to get it in the weeds, how cool would that look... Bolt on parts are everywhere for lots of cars, it takes away from the orginality. That's why i'm making more custom parts for my truck than just bolt ons. Anyone seen how clean an S-10 looks with caddy tail lights?! Makes the rear look so sexy, think i may try that to... Got a friend who has a paint both to, wow i got it made for tools! ^_^ Good luck with your first car there. Hope you have as much fun with it as i hope to have with my truck. -^

You want a ahrdtop cover for it you mean NFSracer? and Airbags? should fit a 350 cehv or something under the bonnet to give it a bit of cred at the lights to.
I'm not gonna get someone to make them for me Blackice, I'm not that stupid, I'm gonna be a diesel mechanic and I'm doing certificate II in engineering tafe course through school for the next two years, so I'll be a bit ble to work with metal and stuff.

350 Chevy. ^_^ Can't afford that or the fuel it would guzzle! Heres my plans:
-Hard Bed Cover
-Airbags
-Rims, Tires
-Custom Dash with screen and pc for mp3s, entertainment possibly wireless internet and custom interior.
-Caddy Tail lights
-And possibly a body kit depending on if i get a S-10 Extreme and like the way it looks once it's lowered, etc...
-And dual exausts coming out a roll pan.
-Little goodies under the hood
-^
I'll do what i can afford... I plan on keeping my truck for awhile and not letting it go to shit like so many people do to their cars. I see it all the time, a spot of rust starts and they wait to long and before you know it your missing your door. I'd rather have a blotch of different paint than my car going on the rust diet.
I've like the CRX for awhile, and have looked forward to a new model, i heard of the concept but didn't hear what happened after that... Saw a RWD and rear engine CRX on tv. Was pretty damn nice... We all got big plans for our cars, but we have to think reasonably to. We would all like big engines in our cars and trucks, but we can't all afford them or the gas they consume. =((

C10's are nice, I like them, but S-10's are the hilux size model's aren't they? there's a really nice C-10 on www.fat57.com I'm pretty sure, it's similar to what you want, but a V8 and is Aussie.

im pretty sure he means like this one :http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/580238
i have a friend thats totaly redoing his s10, its a 84, hes been working on it off and on for the last year. its got bags and sir shocks on the bed to tilt it. it has to be tilted to fuel the car up, he molded over the filler door, as well as the little body lines that go length wise on the body.he still need to paint it and a hole bunch of other stuff. i'll see if he can lend me some pics of it. he has a bad turbochraged camry with a MTX 15", that thing hits so hard.

Yup that's the one blackice. But i'm still debating between the sportside bed and the regular bed. I like the sidestep because it adds some detail to a usually flat section of metal. Like the regular looks very clean when modded but theres something cool looking about having the rear bulging out the way it does with the sidestep. Heres a random pic found on google of the sportside bed. http://www.theautochannel.com/media/photos/chevrolet/1998/98_chevrolet_s10_sportside.jpg
I want an extended cab to. Just more fuctional that way... :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy: :chevy:

i prefer the extended cab too, mainly for looks, it dont add alot of room. i dont particularly care for the beds that buldgeout.
BTW, i heard the 15' sub and 1000w amp my friend is giving me from his 92 eclipse. ohh wee, that thing bumps like crazy.

Do they have a stepside style? or is it named something else over there? It's the one that has the tray start from past the wheel tubs and the tubs stick out by themselves, in a non bland fashion.

i dunno if the s10 has a stepside version or not, i imagine it should since the Silverado does. you can check at chevrolet.com

There's very few Holden or Falcon ute's that have a stepside tray, because it had to be doen custom, but it's never taken off here, on one or two cars maybe, but not universally.
