I know there's a tech-forum but it doesn't seem like it's that well visited and I really need this information.

I'm going to format the C-drive on my hdd this week and do a clean re-install of XP at the same time as upgrading the base-components in my computer, but I can't format the whole drive since I can't make back-ups of my unique files after the CD-burner broke months ago. I don't want these files there since I'm afraid they'll corrupt the XP install and that's what I don't want and the reason I'm re-installing.

I've tried marking them non-writeprotected but it says that either they are protected or a program is using them. I really need some help but I'm too dumb to figure even where to begin searching.

I wouldn't worry about those Frank, they're just special directories that Windows XP uses on each drive partition. Not sure exactly what/why, but they're a Windows thing.

Oh, I was sure it was some form of recover-files with that system-recovery function I tried to set once. In any case, I'll try to use my old hdd as back-up just untill I format all drives since it's not sounding so good (IBM 8.4gb 1998-model). Thanks for the information though.

Greetings and welcome back
