I was looking at the new VW Golf GTI at VW.de and I encountered a problem… I don’t know German… But I looked around likes the GTI very much…. I think it’s a beautiful car…
Since the new GTI isn’t even on VW America, I decided to go to VW Uk, and there I decided to configure it…. At the end it came to £28,935.00… I then decided to convert it to USD, and what I get is $52,074.18 USD…. For this amount of money, I can buy a fully loaded Touareg and it should cover tax and other fees as well... WoW
&(
I never knew it was this expensive to buy cars in the UK….
Btw, anyone like the new GTI?

You think that is expensive Georgie? Ok, watch this:
VW Golf GTI 2.0 Turbo (only Golf labelled GTI in Denmark) is estimated to be sold here at 400000 DKK. According to the tele-text on Denmark Radio Television 100 USD costs 607.42 DKK that means that a Golf GTI in Denmark would be about: 65852.29 USD Nice innnit :D
Frank
P.S. No I don't like the new GTI. Too heavy, way too loaded with equipment that has no place in car especially not when it's to be operated by the driver and is done so while driving.

Yes new cars in the UK can be very expensive, but you can get VERY cheap used ones :D
Another example how different and unfair car prices are.
In the US the Chrysler 300C costs something like 35.000$
Over here it costs 50.000€ which is ~ 61.500$

In the 60K Range, you can buy a BMW 5 Series... And plenty of other cars, Maybe 2... LoL
Hey Fez, what you think of the GTI....
I hope when it comes out in US, VW won't remove the GPS system...

Yikes! I am glad I live where I do... I think I would have an anurism if I went to a dealer and had to fork out over 50 grand US for a crummy little GTI. I'm curious how much other, nicer cars than the GTI would cost over there.

Splash, I do like a fully loaded car… :p But I was just checking out what the new GTI will have… But still with that price, I can buy a fully loaded Touareg V6…. And don’t have to worry about tax and other fees… Lol
But I’ll check out the new GTI, however I’m looking forward to the v6 250hp 2006 R32…
Just for fun, I looked at the Touareg, and it comes to 61,072.92 USD… And I didn’t even configure it…
Btw last weekend I configured either an Audi A4 or it might have been the Audi TT... And it came to something like 80,000 USD

The Golf isn't a bad car, but I think better can be had. The new A-Class might be okay, the old one wasn't too bad, and I hear they intend to sell the A-Class in the USA this time around.
Oh and George, you would NOT want the Touareg V6. It's fuel consumption is ridiculous- 16 litres per 100km! :yikes: That's pretty incredible for something with a 3.2L V6. The better bet if you can afford it is the 4.2 litre V8 model in the middle of the range.
I do like the Touareg though, it has incredible build quality, it feels built to last, just like VW's little small car, the Polo.
If you were in Europe however, I'd suggest the Alfa Romeo 147. That is a very nice car, very fun to drive.

Hey Fez, what you think of the GTI....
I am not sure, the new Golf 5 is not a big success, so I would be very surprised if the GTI is going to be as successful as the original one was.
I think there are other cars out there that come closer to the original GTI spirit :)

I like the look of the new one and it is closer to the mark then the old GTi which was pretty poor, but also, the A class is different to the Golf, it's taller and not as, hot hatchy basically, which is why it can't be compared technically, and the enw one series (which is ugly yes) will be the ultimate hot hatch basically, I mean if you can fit a longitudal 4 in, then there will be room for a V8!!!
I think getting the TDi Toureg is a better bet, the A8 has a new V6 TDi motor, hopefully it will go to the toureg too, cos it needs a smaller cheaper TDi motor, but 35mpg is impressive for a 4x4!
VW's are getting expensive now cos they are moving up, but in Aus we haven't got any cheap VW owned products, Seat left, maybe they should come back now they are a bit more successful..

But however every expensive car (ie, not 2.5 tonne 4wd tanks) VW has tried so far has been quite a disaster. Phaeton, however good (and it is good) doesn't sell very well, and the Golf not selling is a major worry for VW.
The only expensive car that looked like it might be successful was Piech's long-tailed W12 "Nardo" supercar/race car. But they stopped that before it could reach production..

Yeah that thing is pretty good, and the golf hasn't changed prices much, and we haven't seen how many they can sell yet have we? but the jap cars are cheaper yet just as good competition and VW won't bring the cost down, much like the Vectra being more expensive over the old model.

The Japanese have really improved their game recently. The new Subaru Legacy, the Mazda 6, the 4 cyl. Honda Accord are very very good cars.
The Subarus in particular are very very nice cars. The 2.0 litre turbo version of the Legacy in particular is good looking and quite desirable. It's a worthy alternative to an equivalent BMW 3er, Benz C-Class or Audi A4.
And then you have that wonderful Mazda RX8, and the Nissan Skyline 350's. Some of the Japanese car makers are on a very major roll of good fortune. Not good luck, but good fortune. Calling it luck would be to say it happened by chance, but really they did the planning, implemented the needed reforms, changed traditional thinking and ideas and they are reaping the rewards.
All we have to do is find some way to get Nissan Australia to bring the legendary Skyline back to the Australian market. Today, Skyline is better than it has ever been. I would call the decision to sell Teana as Maxima in Australia a mistake even. The rear-driven Skyline would be a much easier to sell car at the same price. Moderately expensive premium front-wheel-drive cars are always a hard thing to sell in Australia if your name is anything other than Alfa-Romeo.

you and your skylines Chris, you know the Statesman/Fairlane is better, speccially with the new 6's in both of them, huge things, if you want something that size other then them, you have to basically get a S Class or 7 series.
But I was talking about the Mazda 3 to the Golf. everyone's idea of a Skyline is the R34, they'd look at the r35 and think of the 350, which is right, but still.
I've seen more of the new Maximia's then before dammit, holden is the one that is losing the sales!!

Chris, the MB A-Class will be coming to America... http://www.thecarconnection.com/images/gallery/tmb/7522_image.jpg
The Touareg V6 from what I read, isn’t that great when it comes to fuel economy…. Maybe they're talking about the V8 and V10 Tdi ...
Touareg V6:
Gas Mileage: 15 mpg city / 20 mpg hwy
Touareg V8:
Gas Mileage: 14 mpg city / 18 mpg hwy
Touareg V10 TDI:
Gas Mileage: 17 mpg city / 23 mpg hwy

There no worse the any equivalent 4x4, and better then some, but yes, anyone expecting 35mpg out of a Touareg will be disapointed. A very light footed driver may get close with the 2.5TDI, the other models don't even come close. The V10 TDI certainly is an impressive bit of kit, but in reality, almost pointless.. The little 2.5 is probably the best value, decent 4x4 on the market, though it's really not as good in the rough as VW would have you believe..

Touareg, Carrera, M5,
Heyyy please stop it, please.
This tread was about awful costs, if you check NO car costs (and Danish) you will understand that we don't even know what "Touareg" means (is it a carpet spescially made for picnics or what   )
I like the Cayenne alot, but I only know how it looks like because one of the neatest fame-babes in my country drives it (she is more wealthy than she is good lookin) 8)~

She aint that bright if she was with the "Trump" ;)
About the Cayenne, it from what I heard from those that owns it, the Touareg is a better vehicle to go for… Mainly the Touareg is much versatile than the Cayenne, and the Interior Qualitly is superior in the Touareg than its inside the Cayenne… One would think Porsche will have world class interior, but not in this case… This goes in line with what people that owns it and from what many magazines have said as well…
Only thing going for the Cayenne is, it has a much better resale value than the Touareg, now and even number of years down the road…

You have a point there George ;) , I guess the reason she was with him was she wanted to learn from an elder, her papa died early and he was the one who used to raise her ;)
To understand what I mean about bright, you have to see her comment something on tv.. ;) (she is thinking while she is speaking, in opposition to "not so bright people" who use to "talk from a speech inside their heads, a prewritten answer they learned somewhere" )=)
She was the 1st person in Norway to own a Porsche Cayenne Turbo.. :D
