As some may have read in the off topic discussion. My "package" finally arrived from [SK]berg! Took 16 long weeks to arrive, after the post shop quoted him 6-8 days.
I'm wondering where do I begin in this game? Run the championship? (I'm already on about the 6th or 7th round.. but only won a couple.. crashed a lot :p)
Also is there particularly easy cars to be racing around in? At first I realised I had some slow A class car, and everything is blowing me away. Is the competition always based on a similar spec car to mine, or does each event usually have it's own set car classes.
Had a blast racing mission # 6 or 7.. 4x4 through the checkpoints, had to do 2:15.00. Managed a 1:57 after a few attempts.
&(
I have already downloaded the 1.66 patch for online play, but have to to try it. As I'm on a shared 56K connection, and the other computer is currently downloading stuff all day. So I will try another time.
Cheers
:Peace:
Look forward to perhaps racing some familiar faces when I get set up online.. If I can with 56K that is. :D

You can always adjust the bot's level down, and turn off the adjustable mode where they match your speed. There are 7 main areas to get through, with a lot of long tracks 15 or 16 tracks in most main areas, so it's going to take a while to run through them all. In addition, you'll need to download a file to unlock all of the cars, like the test versions. Most of the online players have done this.
Note, arcade mode just speeds up the cars, it doesn't really change the feel, so running at 100% arcade will help speed things along. The initial goal is to get 100% bars. For the experience bar, you get a bonus for each different car you drive. However there are a lot of slower cars and a lot of long tracks. My method at the start was to create single races, just 1 lap long and run all cars at Nevada 14, this ends up unlocking all the cars. After that, I just ran the CLK whenever possible.
Here is a link to a save file with all (including test cars and test tracks) unlocked:
mbwrall.zip (http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/mbwrall.zip)
For viewing replays, I've previously posted about how to save and view replays. You can delete or rename 3 of the tga files to see the replays without the logos appearing. These are at
\Program Files\TDK\World Racing\FrontEnd\Daten\BGround\titlelogo.tga
\Program Files\TDK\World Racing\FrontEnd\Daten\Credits\TDK_Logo.tga
\Program Files\TDK\World Racing\FrontEnd\Daten\Credits\Synetic.tga
I also made a video for mbwr:

Great Warren! Yes as Jeff says, install the patch to unlock all the cars and tracks. The AI will give you a pretty good run for the money when set on "Dynamic",but once you get the feel of the handling, you can leave them behind quite easily.Use the diection arrow at the bottom of your screen. It will tell you not only the severity of the curve or turn ahead, but also,it will go from green,to yellow to orange to red,as in whether you should hit the brakes or not.
If you don't want to run all the Championships or Missions right now, just run Single Races. This way you can pick the car and track, and the # of laps, and the # of AI racing with you.
The menu system is a pain, but you will get used to it.To get to a single race, start with Race Planning/ent/single race/ent/#of laps,#of opponents/tracks/ent/sceneries/ent/use arrow keys to scroll sideways for sceneries(Alpen,Nevada, etc. and up/down for track#/ent/cars/ent/classes/ent/ arrow keys again/ent/Lets Go! /ent you're off!
When you are in the mood for a wider variety of cars than just MB,there are now almost 50 add on cars available, many of which are amazingly good! -^
Check out the help threads here,or post if you have any questions.
Have fun,see you out there!

Hi Warren
Good luck with MB WR and welcome to the club!
I did't notice any big difference depending on choice of car after the first
races. It seems as if the other drivers usually pic's something simular.
I think i changed the setup to 1-2 AI cars and 100% static / 99 % dynamic skill on the AI drivers after the first ~10 races.
My method at the start was to create single races, just 1 lap long and run all cars at Nevada 14, this ends up unlocking all the cars
Thanks Jeff, that little hint did help me a lot when i was through the championship. It felt like i could have raced forever without finishing...
The championship is extensive!
Maybe the sliders grow at a slower pace with fewer opponents?
I noticed that the AI drivers usually had a few "week spots" on each track where it was fairly easy to pass. Normally i tried to learn the beginning of each track to make sure that i could be in front of the pack. It is not very easy to pass in MB WR. After that i just tried to make sure to stay in front. With some practise you can drive more agressive than that :)
The hotlap-recorder that the NBW guys made was great for learning to do the tracks without damage. It did not accept any records in 100% sim mode if u had any damage to the car or if u had made short-cuts. Very frustrating for a PU CD off driver ;) I dont think that it works with the MP patch though :'(

Good luck m8!

Hi Wazza and all.
Also is there particularly easy cars to be racing around in?
All cars are easy to drive you just need some practice.
If i remeber right , there is 22 car available in first race and best of those
cars is ML 320 and G400 CDI.
2.
You need just patch1,66 to unlock all cars in ONLINE mode.
and when you start drive times to NBW hotlaps , you need to
install patch 1,55 , or do you Bage know if it possible to drive times
with 1,66 ?
3.
There is players who are hosting with 56k and i dont have notice any lag.
good luck and dont crash.
Hi Guys
Sorry, I don't know if it's possible to do hotlaps with 1.66
I haven't done any since i installed the later patches.
Think they were up to make a new release, but they seem to have
moved thei focus to TOCA RD.

16% now. :(
I can only race 30min each night.. Then I go back to girlfriends place.. This will take a while. HEHE
Hockenheim.. At least I know that track.. With the rotary class. ^_^
Hey Warren
Driving the wheels of these Benzes are you.
Learn the tracks, then come online for some real competition :)
Be aware that railing is not accepted in most of the 100% Sim online pits

In the few I've been in, railing is happening all the time. A lot of the players are running on tracks they aren't familiar with so this is bound to happen anyway. Typically, the host just goes through all the tracks of a landscape, then onto the next landscape. I'm not aware of any players that have memorized all 120 some odd tracks.

Haven't done railing yet! :p
Not when I'm trying to win, and with damage on! Losing all those points.. Currently around 27% complete.. This is a long set of championships.

That's not railing,at least not railing as we used to do in PU.That's impatient, inexperienced ppl who haven't learned that the ones who win, know to slow down when the direction arrow turns red! They must also learn to ignore the signs by the road;they can be misleading.Use the direction arrows, they never lie! ^_^
After months of online play,I have learned, for the most part where I will find the best, fairest pits.Like in PU,the Clan-run pits are usually pretty good;TM,Es,and to a lesser extent,GTR,some of them like to bump pretty hard. Of course, any time I see an XR or DC pit,or an NFBS pit,I know things will be fair, fun n fast! :D Also Peter, and Chrono(FTR Lorenzo) run fair pits too. -^
Really,a fair pit of experienced racers with C ON,is an amazingly fun, intense experience.A 20 km race, where all finish within a few seconds, and with little damage is the best any online racing game can offer.

railing
On tight turns that have armco all the way around on the outside edge, you can slide along the rail pretty fast with 0% damage. When I first got MBWR, I made a video demonstrating railing at Nevada 5 with the DTM car: nv5dtmr.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/nv5dtmr.wmv)
This was done using video out to a cam-corder so it's not as clear as the videos I make with fraps. There are 4 places to rail hard on this track and not get any damage at all (although I banged up the car a bit in some other spots).
Later in the test CLK, I made another run (clean) at Nevada 5, this time with a dual view: mbwr0.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/cgi-bin/mbwr0.wmv)
Again, in pits with players unfamiliar with the tracks, I'll use the rails just to avoid getting rear-ended by the players bouncing off the rails.
If you want fair races without any railing, then use the sand buggy 7000. It won't rail, instead it will just climb up walls and roll over and/or go off track.
