Thx Tom,and welcome back! Some questions...
Is the release date I heard(March '05) accurate?
Can Lobby chat and a racer list for each server be added to the Gamespy front end for WR2?
Will cars in WR2 have horns?
Will WR 1 and WR 2 be available in stores in North America?

I'm amazed! It's that magical W12! Wow! :D

I have a video of that thing flying around the Nardo speed-bowl at 350km/hr, it is amazing this car. Also amazing is that it has a W configuration engine, and that it seems to be running at high engine speeds too! When you listen to the engine, it is screaming!

The torque of 620Nm is at 5800rpm!! So the power of 450kW must be at around 7000rpm, or 7500rpm. With the W engine design, some connecting rods become very long, and that is bad for reliability, or more especially, high RPM operation.

Just look at this amazing engine design this car has:

http://www.totalnfs.net/cpd/w12_engine2.jpg

An amazing piece of engineering.

Also, can I ask if those wheels on the W12 are optional, because they appear different to the standard ones:

Hi Tom

It looks great :)

Well that actually is what we asked for. Collision on races with the led_right_foot_kids on the narrow WR1 roads is not that fun :(

For online racing it will be much better

Tom, plz make sure to release the online gaming at once this time.
That will surely boost interest

Keep working

Wide roads won't stop them from crashing into you. There should be other methods to stop them driving along the 'rails' or crashing into you (like more damage, delay when pressing the 'r' button, bigger punishement for the one who crashes into another car etc.).

I hope that WR2 won't be easier than WR1 - wr1 was actually easy.

You have a good point there Hypo
Maybe i's just that i'm used to the wide roads of NFS PU ;)
Personally i like the drive-trough setting in NFS PU very much
even if its not very sim-like. Much less hazzle, specially with the lag
you often get in online racing.

I only hope that there will be tracks that require controlled driving - and not just full throttle-tracks.

I love the W12, the motor is already used in the A8 and the VW version too, but of course nto as tuned, but I remeber seeing the yellow W12 at the Melbourne motor show in 2001 I think, that was an awsome site, i d/l a car of it for NFS3 but lost it in a hdd crash and never found it again.

As long as we don't ahve to have the graphics unless it's race textures, then I'm fine with that.

Ayce
09-10-2004, 12:12 PM
Athough full throttle tracks are fun (ie: TC2), good control is the key. That is one thing that bothers me about WR1. Some tracks you have to use finesse to get around, while others have areas where you go from flat out to a 90 degree left  :jawdrop: Real tricky in a fast car, especially without a visual roadside clue, like a road sign. (something sorely lacking IMHO,They are there in RL) And I hate those arrows,so I turn them off. Usually I am busy watching the road, so I am not looking at the map, which is not very accurate. (Screaming thru the Alps at 200kph, glance at map, got lots of time to slow down, NO I DON'T!!!Opps, into the guardrail."Severe Driving Error" ^_^)
I hope this will be improved in WR2. :HB:

Hypothraxer
09-10-2004, 12:53 PM
The problem is, that road signs are designed for 'moderate' speeds. If you drive at 200 kph you won't see much of a road sign (and if, than it's already too late).

I think the arrow was a really good idea and helps me a lot.

It's also nice to see, that the trees are 3D now.

Dont forget...it has to run on Xbox similar hardware as the minimum requirements. From Xbox up to the latest we support most cards and upgrade if neccessary or possible.

Next month you can see more stuff.

One think I can disclose is racing on road with opposite traffic is great fun. AI is much improved and new GFX features to be build in for the beginning October version.

I think he means that, if it has to run on the crappy Xbox, then it would run sweet on any modern PC :D

Opposite traffic...Yeah!!!! Finally -^

Tom from TDK

The oppo traffic is great... I did a race this morning in Italy and the traffic makes it a real environment. Its like driving in a real world.

The minimum requirement will be xbox similar performance. So, everybody who has a P3 800 and a Gforce 3 can run WRII.

Wow! That is amazing. Those models look like they have quite a lot of polygons, so the graphics engine must be fantastic. :)

And here we are some of us modding EA Sports/ISI F1C 99-02, having to super-conserve polygons, build masses of LOD (level of detail) chains, limit texture sizes. And even then on a field of 25 or so cars the frame rate slows quite badly *faint*

It seems light years behind in comparison ;)

Ayce

One small question about this, will the OT be more or less realistic in their actions? One thing that always bugged me in the NFS Series, was the traffic. They would swerve into your lane(even from the wrong side of the road) for no reason other that to make you go into panic maneuvers. Or crash right in front of you when there's nowhere to go. &(
Don't get me wrong, I like the traffic, I just hope it stays where it belongs, not zig-zagging all over the place like someone whose had a few too many  before hitting the road. :nono: :D

chris
09-24-2004, 07:31 AM
Remember their overtaking moves on each other in NFS5. :D The truck would overtake the small car, and cut straight across, slamming into the car..

Crazy insane drivers.. ;)

me too, dammit, I still haven't got the first one, this one better be sold in Australia for longer then the last one, apparently it was at my local EB for about a week in december and I had asked too, and we don't get Corvette world racing on pc either, what gives with that?

Hey ghost would be coolest -^

Also another idea, would it be possible to get some testtrack in that would automatically measure 0-60mph, 0-100 km/h, 1/4 mile (with terminal speed), standing 1km and stuff like that ?

would be great for tweaking addoncars ;)

Yes,you would think that MB would have a track set up that way, like a drag strip. Since the cars in WR2 will be tunable, and have engine options,as I understand it.

Great looking shots indeed but I have a few questions that I hope are not repeaters.

1: In WR it's very hard to see anything in the shadow-areas and that often causes crashes either with road-side objects or other cars that has hit a object and been stopped on the road. I also tried turning up the screen contrast and brightness to extreme levels beyond normal for any other game I have but it didn't help.

2: Will there be a VW Bora TDI in the game?

3: Will there be headlights you can turn on and if so will they also turn on the instrument-lights in the interior-view?

Greetings and thanks

Anyone know what the system specs might be?

I ask since, I doubt if my system can even handle NFSU2... :p

Hi

Frank, i change the gamma settings until i'm satisfied with how much i can see in the shadow areas. But i agree with your point, it's not easy to race in those areas. It looks good, but doesnt really add any value to the racing.

The lightning and shadow effects will be completely new in WR2. That will probably solve your problem.

2: Will there be a VW Bora TDI in the game?

Perhaps the V6 Version with 240PS? :D. I've read that there will be only fast cars in WR2. (> 150PS)

3: Will there be headlights you can turn on and if so will they also turn on the instrument-lights in the interior-view?

Yes, there will be headlights. No - we won't have an interior-view (too much work, and not favourite enough)

Ghost is a problem due to patents Atari is holding.

Need for Speed High Stakes has this feature. Sort of like a replay that you can race against, but the ghost car is semi-transparent so you can drive through it. This is a game that was released back in 1999, does this help?

Toca Race Driver 2 also has a ghost feature, but only for hot-lapping mode, each lap you run against a ghost car from your previous best lap.

JeffR

automatically measure 0-60mph, 1/4 mile (with terminal speed), ...

Need For Speed High Stakes reports these stats as well as top speed, lap times and total times at the end of every race, for all players, both for offline and online play.

Well I have WR demo, and it seems to run fine… As long as I’m not running anything else at the moment the game runs pretty fine…

So I guess WRII will run fine then?
