(Link to Deutsche Welle news report).

There has recently been a terrorist attack on the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to the latest reports, 8 people are dead, however according to the reports, no Australians have been injured.

8

I heard about it at around 2pm this afternoon, when it was 4 people

Then I was watching a TV program (mad about you or something to kill time) when they constantly ran the Channel 10 update across the screen, at which point it read "Prime Minister officially announces 6 dead in Jakarta bombings, more in the news at 5"

I did see some brief footage of the building in a news bulliten, gee what a mess. Apparently it was caused by a taxi and a small truck carrying bombs or something

How sad and terrible, still we must stand strong because the moment we weaken, well just like anything, racing for instance, the moment your weakened the enemy has won :nono:

Of course we will stand strong. These terrorist bastards will not scare me, and hopefully the rest of Australia will not be scared either.

By being scared, people let the terrorists win.

The blast in Jakarta apparently left a 3 metre crater in the road, and happened about 4m away from the gates of the embassy. The wall around the embassy apparently held up, but the gate was reportedly flattened.

That's the only info I have.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung has more info in its report, including a photograph showing the heavy damage.

they reckon its now up to 11 people sadly killed

apparently the location of the bomb meant no one inside the building was killed, it was people passing by on the sidewalk where the car was (ie next to the fence you mentioned) and they were civillians, police men, security etc but heaps were hurt like in adjoining office blocks where glass shattered

Well this just gets interesting cause if you think about, a couple of months ago during the Indoneasian ELECTION, some terrorist blew up a restort or a hotel. Also in Madrid with the train bomb that occurred during an election as well.

And gee's inst it funny now Australia is in election mode at the minute.

What the terrorist are doing is trying to use a scare tactic against those participating in the election, also it brings division in terms of support and what needs to be done - basically what their trying to do is stall and by time for their next attack.

Well isnt America in election mode at the minute hmmmm, maybe thats where the next target maybe.

It is also perftect timing as well, just after the Russian hostage crisis, show how blind the rest of the world is to a attack anywhere any time.

But this is clearly an attack against Australia and it would be interesting to see what John Howard and Mark Latham do in response to the attack, especially Latham - it would be interesting to see if he ll change his mind on illegal immigrants and refugees
