New screenshots of the GTR game by Simbin. It's looking pretty good, and here you can see the safety car for the first time. The safety car looks like a Maserati Coupé. The race-starts are by rolling start, rather than standing start, so those who hate standing starts can celebrate.

I'm not sure of the actual release date, there is some confusion surrounding that, but be certain that it won't be too far away.

Take note also of the Starforce copy-protection that it is supposed to also feature. I don't oppose theft-prevention measures, but I question strongly the use of devices such as that. A line in the sand must be drawn at a certain point.

Lots of videos of different cars. The Vette at Enna Pergusa is particularly nice to watch.

I agree with copy protection in the aspect of stopping dodgey people making a profit from somebodys work, and by that I mean those who make anything at all whether its $10 for one copy or a million for a million copies

That said with the number of games Ive got I also like the no cd idea because it means I can install the game, the no cd, and safely store the CD. As it is my bedrooms a mess with PC games everywhere after I recently formatted my "gaming" pc in my room, ive already broken 1 cd and stepped on many cases  Its just ease on by behalf to be able to double click the icon and away we go, plus I find most times on the older PC (500 mhz / 128 mb ram) it speeds up gameplay as its reading directly from a 7200rpm HDD and not a varying speed CD drive

Anyway the game itself looks awesome, reckon it'd be moddable, that is, so we can put different cars and tracks in game, or shouldnt I ask

I don't think it will be possible to mod GTR. Simbin might release some addons later on, perhaps for free, or maybe to purchase, but I'd guess that would be as far as mods would go.

It's not a problem anyhow when rFactor can be modded, and it is using a newer and better version of the same game engine. ;)

So you'd get GTR for the FIA GT cars, and rFactor for the mods.

Yeah, well I think the crackers will get past this new safe thing, but that's regardless, it should be safe, but as long as they make all their money back and a bit more, then there isn't much of a problem IMO, but when the creater is struggling to make money up, then it is a problem.

But the game looks awsome and SCGT has the option of standing and rolling starts if I remeber right too.

From the Simbin Press Officer:

"GTR will be released in Scandinavia and Germany in the beginning of November.
We are also AIMING for a November release in UK and France - BUT this is not clear and totally depends on prospective distributors so release can also be further delayed. This we do not know.
As of the rest of the world goes - distributor hunt. Release we do not know yet.

There you go - no secret anymore.
We DO understand the impatience of waiting for GTR - but we also hope that YOU understand that we do everything in our power to release the game as soon as possible without restricting marketing and so on...

So that's the release dates, not exact, but reasonable enough. Hopefully Australia and the USA will not be a problem, but we will see. I will try to find out more.

What would really be awesome is if someone also did a game for the Le Mans-based racing series... I want prototypes too! The old Panoz GTR1 coupe Larbre has been thrashing around of late, the discontinued Panoz LMP Spyders, Audi R8, Lola-AER/MG, Lola-Judds, Taurus-Lola Judds, Dallara-Judds, Riley&Scott-Lincoln... hell, any engine in any car really. R&S with the Elan (Panoz) engine, R&S with a Judd... it's all good! lol

Have it with both the European and American halves (I'd love a modern game with some of the great circuits we have in this country... Sebring, Mid Ohio, Road America, Sonoma, Laguna Seca... the list goes on. I've been to three of those this year as well) and of course include le vingt-quatre heures du Mans itself! That would be incredible. Of course most of the FIA GT cars are there as well below the prototype classes. Corvette C5-Rs, Ferrari 575 GTCs, Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT, Porsche GT3 RS(R)S, 360 Modenas, Saleen S7Rs, Viper GTS-Rs, Panoz Esperante GT car (would be considered N-GT class in the FIA version), Morgan Aero 8... the list goes on and on. That would be quite an exciting mix. The ultimate in sports car racing!

Someone already, has, but it's not a game, and you can download it for free!

Go and visit www.rsdg.net and download the SCC mod for F1 Challenge 99-02. It's well done, and has a gigantic amount of cars included from so many different ALMS seasons. Even European Le Mans series is included IIRC.

There are even tracks which go from day to night available for download.

For now it is the next best thing to a proper game based on ALMS.

I might have to invest in some control hardware.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend these ones:

http://www.frex.com/

They are the product of a guy called Shige Tanaka. And the quality is absolutely superb. Especially the quality of the pedal sets. These are absolute highest quality, by a long way.

If you wanted one of those, what you'd order is:

x1 Driving Force Pro/GT Force Pro Custom base unit
x1 FrexGP Pedal Kit
x1 Pro Pot kit

These wheels are based on the Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel, but heavily modified and made much better, and the pedal units are absolute custom made to give far better braking control than standard.

When I get the dollars, I'm probably going to order one of these myself. If you are serious about your virtual racing, then these are the way to go so it seems, if all of the happy customers are anything to judge by.

Actually, I'm so dead flat broke right now that I'm picking up loose change so I can buy myself a roll of dental floss. :help:
