I seem to be going through major life changes at present. I am hopeful of getting a new job in the near future which will demand more of my time and I have a new wonderful, stunningly beautiful girlfriend (who is also a psychologist) and she definitely will not be neglected. On top of that my puter has been showing signs of possibly being on its last legs.
With my interest in computer games waning of late I am seriously considering whether I will bother replacing my puter when it finally dies on me.
For now I will continue to visit while my puter continues to stagger along.
It will be a sad day if and when I leave this great little community, but the day has to come eventually :)
Dave
just reformat the hdd, it will be back to new in no time.

That's bad news. :( (for us of course, but mostly good news for you). :)

Life tends to be one straight road, with various attractions, stops and sideshows along the way. Perhaps now is your time to continue down the path and see other things that will interest you, but I am confident that somewhere along your journey, you will again find the desire to return to the PC community once again, if not for nothing more than a quick visit. So, may your stay right now be grand until you depart, and looking through the bincoulars of life, we anticipate and welcome your next visit.
You'll always have a home here, Dave, this is truth.
L8ER,
Teej
Best of luck :) (even though I don't even know you, hehe)

D_Man: Congratulations. :)
Love is the only thing in life that makes sense, so even though you'd be missed here, I would not consider it a sad departure from this community.
As for the computer, if you're not interested in games anymore, just go for a simple replacement to use as a tool for occasional browsing.

I guess that is good news for you, your life taking a slightly new direction. I agree computers certainly can interfere with life at home.. social life.. upset girlfriends etc.
I haven't been on the PC as much in 2004, as I was last year. I was racing PU still every night pretty much. Now I go and play every few days at the most, more often every few weeks.
Just remember, this place won't be disappearing.. You can still have short holidays here... It's not quite the Caribbean, but still have fun being with friends.
:Peace:

Thanks for the kind words guys :)
The puter is still behaving badly and I think it is one of my hard drives that is the culprit. I keep lurking until it finally dies :D

it would be sad to see you go but you can always drop by every now and then as the other australian pillars of this community do like aussie muscle and acca do.

I was just thinking that guys like Wello and AccadaccA would probably have seen Andrea on thelevision some years ago. She did some television advertisements in the early 1980s including a Coke add where she and another girl were running along the beach in bikinis playing with a beach ball. She was also the owner of the gorgeous tummy featured on the Tab Cola advertisements.
I wish I could find copies of those advertisements now :D

dave, buy a cheap 200 mhz system for internet use -^
As you said, your losing time to play games which means you wont need a high end machine, but a $20 machine from ebay or a market would be all you need for internet use (or a $10 hdd from ebay)

Dave,
Maybe you can go to these tech forums (http://forums.techguy.org/) , and I'm sure someone will be able to help you. Or you can email me thru this forum and we'll see what the problem is. You just can't wait for ur HDD to die on u!
Anyway if u decide to leave, keep coming from time to time, like me. I don't do it on purpose. Maybe I'll "be able to not leave" this time. :D So stay. :p
I hope u understood something from what I wrote.
Will miss u!
Tony.

On a bit of a side note, the local PC shop has a sign out front that reads "200 GB HDD $167.00" (CAN). That seems like a pretty dang good deal to me, am I wrong?

Sounds good to me, I bought a new 120Gb, Seagate, 8Mb buffer, 2 months ago, and it cost that same price. Is it a top brand?
Let's hope Dave's machine can hold out. :)

That sound really good value Teej :)
My system has been stable today with no fatal errors and no constant whirring noise that I have been getting used to lately. However, games won't run smoothly and there seems to be a lot of thrashing of the hard drive when I try to play.
Since Andrea and I work together we are keeping our relationship secret - at least for the time-being. It is so funny to watch the guys swooning whenever she walks past. She had our Senior Legal Officer blushing and all flustered when she asked him for one of his chocolate bisquits this afternoon :D
We had a romantic evening the other night and she was feeding me smoked oysters with her fingers - yum :) Sure beats driving virtual cars and I hope it continues for a long time to come.
Dave
Whatever you do with ehr, keep it to yourself :P the rest of us do too.

 TotalNFS without D_Man? :teary: I guess I understand, as I have not been around too frequently either lately. I am happy for you Dave, it sounds like you might have found "the one" for you... but smoked oysters? :ack: :nono: Heh
Hmmm the Hyperstim... I expect the vultures will be circling :)
Anyway, I hope you will stay in touch somehow, or at least give us some contact information... If I ever get down to Oz it won't be acceptable if I can't hang out with you and Rob, whether it be soon or in 10 years :)

Wow, eekers!
Great news about your life progression Dave, as mine has taken a toll recently as well meaning I spend less time at the forum, and less time on the IRC chat too - we all have real world responsibilities, it's part of life (as TJ nicely put it in his post).
I have to echo Myshs' words, and get you to at least keep in touch - and I'll definitely make it a priority to get together with you guys when I head over that way (same timeframe as Mysh pointed out ;))
Anyways, congrats on the new job, good luck and keep in touch Dave, and keep that Hyperstim in use :D

Thanks guys :) You will always be welcome if you ever get down here some time.
I have to apologise for the oyster bit, but I am an incurable romantic and I hope she is the one. I've been searching all my life with no luck so far.
Maybe good things do come to those who wait.
Take care all
Dave (probably my last post on my dying puter)

G'day Dave
You had better not lose contact with me or I'll come down on ya like a ton of bricks!
I've got use of one of Jen's mobiles so expect a call soon. I had her other phone but didn't want to use it as it would automatically hang-up after about a minute or so. =[ Dang P.O.S.!!!
Grab the Sunday Mail this weekend and get a free Vodafone card with something like 120 hours free calls. :D
Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave.
Every time I heard from you it's another babe. :nono:
heh Half yer luck mate.
I might have to move closer to Brizzy to get me some of this action.
Just throw me your crumbs.
I guess I shouldn't be saying this on Jen's puter, should I? heh
About the HDD whirls and grinds. You may recall I went thru several HDDs a few years back (lost a heap of NFS edits too). I even gave Remko a listern to one of my sad HDDs (grinding) over the phone.
Well I've since discovered that the cause(s) weren't virus or faulty components as first thought, but rather a case of mixed File Systems. As I was constantly editing back then I would frequently back-up my works onto CDs however when I needed to make use of those backups I was not only copying the files but also the wrong FAT (File Allocation Table). Of course the system couldn't handle it and the stated "free disc space" would constantly alter.
A format may be all it needs but the longer you let it go the worse it's chances of recovery are. I eventually couldn't complete a format on those drives. Some times it would format like 2% and sometimes it would do 90 odd. :why:
I know it wasn't all that long ago that you gave your old puter away and bought a new one so the HDD can't be all that worse for wear just yet. Remember I'm on mine almost 24/7 and it's a lot older than yours.
Let's hope that's all it is. But if it dies please don't bin it.
Anyway good luck with this lady-friend. I hope it works out for the two of you. Or even the one of you and the one of her. :D
I guess two shrinks together would play a lot of head games. :p heh

Hey there D-Man,
I've seen you on here ever since I've been on. I don't know you really, but I can easily understand your situation ! Sometimes it's the harder choices that are the "right" ones ! Good luck to you and the new girly ! Sounds great ! I am going through the same exact situation right now too ! Haven't raced much in a couple / few months after racing eveyday for over a year ! Just need ( and WANT ) to pay my attention to a great relationship and life's road is changing direction a bit ! I still check in with the community as much as I can. So, go with your feelings, but, check in here once in a while ! Maybe I'll see ya again sometime soon ! Take care of you and her !
Bye for now !

In any event, stay in touch.

Wow, D Man, sounds like you've had a head-on collision with happiness. Couldn't be happier for you, congratulations. Don't worry about the computer; oysters in the hard drive can be fixed without too much difficulty :D
