Well as some of you Aussies know (because I whinge in the V8 forums lol) ive been out of work for a while.

well, finally on Saturday I had a job emailed to me via one of the job find websites (which auto emails me suitable jobs) for the Automotive industry, no exp needed, training provided.

I got in contact with someone I know at one of the employment agencies on Sat morning and left it at that.

About an hour ago (monday) I got a phone call, the guy said theres 3 dealerships in the local area, 6 jobs but he's only interviewing 12 people.

My theory now I think of it is 2 x people @ each dealership, because 2 ppl x 3 dealers = 6 spots!

Basically we quickly chatted and he said I made it through to round 2 next week, I am one of the 12!. Not bad, as he put it, definately a 1 in 2 chance of "winning a job" ^_^

I'm pretty sure its doing car sales, which I'm not too keen on as a career because it involves meeting targets, which if you dont meet then goodbye (ive got an uncle whose a sales rep and hes been flicked a few times for not selling the target amount) but if its a 12 months sales traineeship I'd go for it because they cant get rid of you while your under a 12 month contract, well they can but youve got to have missed work too much or damaged a car or sold a car for a buck or something, not because you didnt meet this months target.

I have to see because its confusing, the ad mentioned sales and service whereas ads for sales have just that - "this job is sales", which I understood this ad to be working in the service dept, which dont have targets to meet, but he was talking about a 5 day training course to listen to experts in the field talk about it. I'm pretty sure its sales which I reckon I'd love to do, but I'm not too keen on the targets thing ... then again if it is and they set reasonable targets I'm all set for a career ;) I still dont know what service has to do with it, unless its a typo which should read sales and customer service ... anyways

We'll see but either way its looking ok.

I dont know where it is tho till he calls me later in the week as I have to meet him at the dealership next week :)

I need luck

c'mon now ... I wish you guys good luck every day ;)

Sales targets can be a bummer.. Other than that, sounds promising for you. :)

Good luck, if that's what you want. :)

My job, at the bank involves customer service mostly..
Easy job really, but what they don't tell you, is that we get all these targets to meet. In the interview, all they pretend to be looking for, is someone with good customer service experience, and not bad math skills.... Wish they could have told me, you then get sales meetings every single day.

Anyway, don't be afraid of asking lots of questions, as long as they are relevant. They like people who can challenge what's ahead of them, and commit yourself. Just don't over do it, coz they'll be looking at you in a couple of months wondering why you haven't done every you claimed you could do.

 Best of luck for you

yeah we'll see.

If it is a sales role I would still be happy to do the 12 months training, because as I said you cant get booted while your completing the traineeship.

Then in 12 months time I'm under no obligation to stay beyond the traineeship and I obtain the certificate in whatever it is (say automotive sales and service), which means I'd be able to then apply for a role in the spare parts division of any dealership, that is selling genuine spare parts and racing merchandise/apparel which is what I really want to do, the difference is Ive got experience dealing with customers in a dealership environment and in the automotive industry, and still being young it means I'd still be eligable as a junior trainee, so they can train me to their liking.

I mean either way it can really benefit me in the end, I've just got to see what their plans are because I havent acctually been told it is a 12 month traineeship, ive worked it out from bits and pieces of questions ie they only ask you "have you completed any traineeship ever" to check your eligability for a traineeship, and the ad reads "in a fully accredited training course" so it could right well not be ...

Yeah, go for whatever qualifications you have, the more of them you have, the better for your CV. Until you get those management types who call people over-qualified (only because the managers feel inadequate!!).

ok, well so you guys know

I was "accepted" to the training course but was no good really!

The deal was after this week long training course they would pick the people, it changed every day, sometimes every phone call on the same dfay from picking 6 out of 12 people to picking 3 out of 6 to 4 or 5 or 6 out of 7, well there were 9 of us there and I assume there picking between 4 to 6!

Anyway I'm not stupid i was the odd one out by a long shot, and quite easily there was me and another guy who could tell the 6 they'd choose ... the 2 financial consultants, the 2 store managers, the already a used car salesman and the boss's best friends best friend :D

So rather then waste my time ive given it the flick because I dont have time this week to be stuffed around ... I'm waiting on another bloke to get back to me about the possibility of creating a spot just for me (yay!!!), theres also another one ringing me tomorrow for an interview, because he has had to go interstate this week for a family crisis (fair enough) and ive applied for 2 more and am waiting for their response
