something wrong with PU install?

Hi again,

been having my usual type of computer problems, just reformatted it and installe windows 98, I think i got all the drivers i need, got directX, nvidia display drivers, soundcard drivers, wingman drivers, just re installed PU but when I start it, the first screen where you pick Single/Multi player, theres no words there, it's like 1/2 of the screen is there, the buttons light up yellow when I move the mouse but theres no cursor on the screen.
Any ideas? I think i installed everything I had last time, and I tried re installing PU itself, but its still the same.

You might want to try looking at your video settings. From what I remember, PU needs 32 bit to run the game right. If it's less, you wont see much.

A side note. I got Win XP a while ago abd love it. It's way better than 98se. I think so after using 98se for years. When I got some stuff for my pc I got winxp oem for $100 full install CD. It now shuts down like it should unlike 98se. Going through a scan disc 80% of the time because it wouldn't shut down like it should. And with a 35g's it took 15 mins. every time. &( I found a great free program that would shut windows down 99% of the time even if you had programs open. It;s called "Slawdog". www.slawdog.com/products/smartsd/

I also have the win xp service pack 2 beta. Had it now for about 5 weeks or so and love the improvments. A full nice windows program now. :)

The graphics with win xp are great. With the service pack in notice a change for the better and checked the DRX out. You get a new 9.0c with the pack. -^

If you can get Win XP. Do it. It's well worth it. -^ -^

Just to let you other's reading this know if you like WMplayer. Get the WMplayer 10 beta. Love it. Nice look and works great. I'm actually using it now since it works really great unlike before. It was just a pain a slow before. :Peace:

first off what model nvida card is it. if the drivers are the latest you will have problems with them. I had the exact same thing. Black background with just boxes and no words in them. no mouse or anything. just try one of the older drivers and you should have no problem.

it is a geforce2 MX400, and i've got drivers called 61.76_win9x_english that i downloaded from nvidia. what would be the ones before that? I'm having a bit of trouble finding the ones i need.

I've got 52.16 nVidia driver installed, and that has worked well. Most the time, allows Alt-Tabbing to desktop.. Handy when you want to check settings of other racers, or save some screenshots before you forget. ;)

ok with the geforce 2 get the drivers 30.82. they seem the most stable. I use them with the gforce 4 even though they are not written for it it cleans up the mouse lockup i was having. 61.76 was the one i had problems with. anywa you can go here for the link for 30.82 http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_30.82.html

thanx, that was the problem, all fixed now.
I updated the PU files by clicking the internet games option, I guess i still need to find the 4 add on cars but apart from that I think I'm almost ready to race :cool:

If you go to to "RS" site you can get them there. Plus the new IP Lounge 2 beta from their forums. Just get the site from some [RS] team members post in the iplounge post here.

you can get the download cars for PU from ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/nfs-porsche/
and at least from there you know they ain't hacked and slashed :)
