I just got an old copy of Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit on CD-Rom and I'm DYING to play it. I know it's an older game and all but I still want to play it, but it doesn't work on Windows 2000. I'm sure someone somewhere has a way to install and play it on Windows 2000 and I'd be eternally thankful if someone could clue me in on how to do it!
Thanks in advance!

I have 2k and am running NFS 3 , although I didn't have any problem installing it . Are you sure your not referring to NFS 4: High Stakes ?
When I installed NFS3 , it didn't require anything to be done , it just installed and played flawlessly .

I'm positive. I'm looking at the CD right now and it says "Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit". When I try installing it, I click the 'Install Game' thingy from the little 'splash' and it is like "This gameonly works on Windows 95/98" then it closesy.
Any help?

well , again , mine didn't require anything , but one thing you might try is 2k's version of the compatibility program .
First of all , make sure you have the latest 2k service pack installed ( as of this time , I believe that is sp 4 ) .
Since I'm old , and my memory is quickly fading , goto this page http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/print/0,23102,3337910,00.html and follow the instructions for installing the compatibility program ( if it is not yet installed ) .
To make it more user friendly , such as it is in Xp , after it is installed goto the start/ run command line , and either copy and paste or type this in exactly :
regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll
Now , go to the nfs3 cd , right click on the setup file , and send a shortcut to the desktop .
Right click on that shortcut , choose '' properties '' , and go to the compatibility tab .
Check the "Run in compatibility mode" box , and select the os you'd like it to emulate , i.e. 95, 98 , etc .
These steps should take you through the installation , if it is the actual problem .
