Please someone help. I have XP home and want to play Porsche Unleashed so bad on it. I have looked all over and no one seems to have the same story. I know there must be a way to get it to work on my system. I have a real copy, but it was for the '98 version.
I need it to be explained in great detail because I have no idea what I am doing. Thank you!

Sorry I don't know off hand but try the FAQs here at Racerplanet as I know it's been answered many times before.

For some it's just a matter of setting the Desktop link to "Win 98" compatibility, for others it simply refuses to work at all.

Good luck.

Here, try this thread. >>CLICK ME (http://www.racerplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=11055) <<

If that doesn't fix things then at the bottom of that forum select to view all threads "from the beginning".... (it's currently set to "30 days" by default).

Here is the best solution. Its from our good friend New Wheel, he found it somewhere.

Thanks 935-^ and thanks to ol' mate Rok (New Wheel) :cheers:

I have downloaded both versions (2.6 & 3) so here's hoping. Although I couldn't get PU working running Win '98 (it only worked for a little while) so I don't hold much hope for running it on XP pro in Win '98 compatability.

But you never know unless you try, try again. :hat:
:idea: Hmm, I wonder if I could install it on this (Jen's) puter?

It works perfectly for me on XP.

I just deleted the gimme.dll file in the root directory and edited the config file to stop the spash screen and movie at the start.

I just did a full install with NFS PU, didn't have any problems with Windows XP. I did not change compatability mode either.

I currently have an ATI video card now, but I think I've run PU with Nvidia video cars as well with Windows XP. My motherboard is a boxed Intel motherboard.

I run PU on a Dell Dimension 8200 (2.53GHz P4 with 512MB RAMBUS and GeForce4 Ti4200) using Dell's version of XP Home (pre-SP1). I didn't change any settings, have to use compatibility mode or mess with any files. It auto-updated fine too without any problems. I just leave the CD in the drive since I play PU most evenings.

Good Luck,

Wello open your fe.txt file in Notepad and scroll down to the bottom. You will find a section that looks like this:

map=1
speedometer=2
speedunits=0
tachometer=2
damagedisplay=1
mapscale=4
opponentlist=1
splittimes=2
displaycolors=0
driversnapshot=1
rearviewmirrror=1
recordtime=1
noloadingscreen=1
nointromovies=1
castanet=1

I have put the two lines you need to edit are in bold.

Good luck

Dave :)
