It's been a while since I played it, but I do keep it installed because the police chases are awesome. Especially if you're using the slow cars :)
Downloading the vids now, thanks JeffR!

Wow, fantastic filming and driving. Nighttime at Dolphin Cove was especially nice. Thanks much for sharing those, very "inspiring".
Now, where did I put my NFS-HS CD....? ^_^

What a coincidence. Today I have started editing for that game again (by request). :hat:
I'll soon be releasing my dragcars for both HS (nfs4) & HP (nfs3).
Baritone Black : I cannot play it in XP either but I have dual boot and use Win '98 to edit and play HS. Perhaps you can too?
Just wondering if you have tried to run the HS shortcut in Win98 compatibility mode?
You took ur time Acca, I asked about a year ago for them!!! LOL
I am making cars still but haven't got them working complelty in NFS HS, have variious problesm like th OC doesnt' show up.
I got some of Aussie Muscles cars too, I'm makign a HQ Monaro for Australian made and a hovercraft fro Vice city, oh yer trying to convert cars to SCGT and thatz it I think.

get it running on XP
That's what I run it on. Get the spot patch here:
link to spot patch (http://www.clan-wolfpack.co.uk/HS/nfshsdownloads.htm)
There are two replacements for d3da.dll:
dx8z.dll has faster performance, but the intro videos don't show.
dx7z.dll is fast enough for most systems though.

I'm on directx 9, and if I downgrade I won't be able to use a lot of other programs, and I'll also be going below what I started with.
In addition, the failure of Windows on my last computer may have been caused by accidental downgrading of directx.

Not a problem, I run on dx9 also. dx7z.dll an dx8z.dll are just driver interfaces for NFSHS, NFSPU, and MCO if I remember correctly. All will work with Directx 9.

Cool vids.. I still do play NFS: HS, though not as often than I used to, even though it's five years old this March or April. But that's primarily because of the ability to download user-made addon cars. ('cuz face it, the EA cars suck) I have XP Pro, and Direct X 9.0.. it works fine for me. :) As does NFS PU, happily. :)

Nice videos Jeff :D
I have never got HS running like that on my PC. It has always looked worse than NFS3 HP.
I guess thats why I never really played it much. That and the unreal car response. It did not feel right.
I wonder if I get it working properly on XP if the game in general will be better?

My graphics card, a GeForce 4, isn't on the list in the readme of 3dsetup.zip. Is it still safe to follow these instructions?

Guys,
HS DOES run on XP just fine. The problem that most of you have/had, based on the responses, is that you have been running HS in "Software Rendering" mode. Yes, the game will suck if you run it in that mode.
JeffR pointed you to the SPOT patch, a patch that patches HS ONLY, does NOT downgrade DX9 or any other one. The DLL sits in the HS directory, NOT in a WINDOWS directory, so it will ONLY affect HS.
Once you install HS, you need to run the SPOT patch, following the directions carefully. Once you do, you will have run the 3DSETUP program, and picked HARDWARE ACCELERATION to do the graphics. Once you have that up, and HS boots up properly, then you should see HS in all of its glory.
Hope that this helps a little bit.
Cheers,

It's still there, but you have to click on player created download sections, then spot patch which now has it's own page.
