I got NFS:PU about a month ago and I love it however I do have a couple of questions concerning the game here they are:
1. At the start of a race even if I am at the front of the pack it seems all the other cars manage to pass me within the 1st couple seconds despite whatever technique I use is this a function of the game or is it just me?
2. Once I cross the finishing line I loose control of the car and usually I hit a wall or something can I avoid this and if not does hitting a wall at the end of a race increase the damage to the car?
3. (Technical) Once in a race and I try to restart it the restart button does not work any ideas as to what may be causing this
Thanks for any help

1. You may not be launching the car properly, if you floor the throttle during the 3..2..1 countdown, you'll have too much wheelspin. I do my launches based on sound, but I suspect a proper launch is in the half to three-quarter throttle range for most cars.

Having said that, the computer opponents do seem to be very good at launching, so don't expect to get a jump on them.

2. The best way is to try to be heading in a perfectly straight line when you finish. Some tracks make that hard though. Slowing down is another way to avoid that, but that obviously isn't an option in a tight race.

3. Don't know, never had that problem.

For my starts it depends on what car I am using, for example the 78 turbo I rev it to redline and when I hear go I shift into first and at about 25-35mph I take second and then the wheelspin slowly goes away.
The car control thing, its impossible without cheating. Thats what I understand but I could be wrong.
If you hit the restart button it will take a short bit for the game to restart the race, but not letting it restart is new to me.

1.) if you race in a stock car (means: no updates/mods) you will see his on all cars, you`ll need to buy some parts to improve here

2.) no, it wont affect your damage after crossing the finish line no damage will be added

3.) if you do the evolution mode: you can`t restart a tournament race

Hi MKREdit, :shake:

Welcome to the RacerPlanet, the greatest meeting place for PU and other racing games lovers :D

Here are my views on your questions:

1. The game is designed as such, to give you more challenge against not so hard to beat AI racers. They only have advantage at start, thus you have to overtake many of them VERY carefully, because in single-player modes of the game the collision is always active. This way you are forced to develop your driving skills such as maneuvering, braking, accelerating, e.t.c.

2. After you cross the finish line, your car is 'indestructible' so no harm will be done to it even if it jumps 60 feet high and falls down flat :D It is normal that you loose control. I see it as a humorous attempt of game developers to cheer us after our 'hard work' ^_^

3. I don't quite understand this last question.

There is "restart race" option if you press Esc key during the race. This ONLY works at SP modes such as Quick race, Quick knockout and Knockout, but NOT in Evolution mode.

And, there is Reset function. If you press Reset button when you are normally positioned on the road it will NOT work. Game itself decides when it is appropriate to 'put you back on the road' and when it is not. This is necessary because it always put you in the middle of the road, so there would be quite a 'strange' and funny situations if we would keep pressing reset button during race, 'jumping' instantly from the edges to the middle of the road... especially if both collision and damage settings were set to ON ^_^

I hope that this will put some light through your questions.

Good luck and plenty of joy playing PU... and when you will finish Evolution and Factory Driver modes, you are invited to REAL joy: Multiplayer!!! :HB:

3. Reset button will work as soon you hit something.
Restart race can be done by clicking on "exit to game-menu" when in Evo-mode.

2. If you have zero damage when crossing finishline, the car will remain undamaged if you hit something, but if the car has some damage when you cross the finishline, then you hit something after crossing line, then some more damage will be added.

1. As said by others, AI-cars are not realistic in accelleration.

But we can help you;
Do not give full gas while countdown, the ammount of rpm depends on the car you drive (old cars; I rev them to redline-mark at countdown, then I give full gas at 0), modern cars I rev up maybe 80 percent at countdown, then full gas at 0

In the garage, You can tune your suspension settings, downforce and tyrepressure to increase performance and handling.

Please visit http://no-clan.nett.org for tips about car-tuning.

Example for tuning;
Porsche 356 1960 (all 356 models)

Porsche 911 1995 993 Coupe 3.6L TwinTurbo

Good luck, have fun!
And welcome to the PU community :)

A little modification on what FIATLOVE said about crossing the finish line.

If you cross the line without damage, you will remain undamaged, regardless of what you hit.

If you cross the line with any damage, more will be added, you don't have to hit anything after crossing either. The game kind of goes easy on your damage while you're "driving" the race, but adds more after you cross. The amount added is proportional to how much damage you have sustained during the race. Sometimes you can see the damage indicator jump quite a bit the instant you cross the finish if you've sustained a lot of damage. Weird...

here are my annwers to your questions:

1.At the start, I mostly floor the gas and hit 1st when i hear go, it has its technique and has given me lots of acceleration. Respecting the AIs, depending on if you have your car "full modded" will all the upgrades and the race setups, then the AIs probably won't pass you (having mastered the starting technique).

2.At the end of the race, the car brakes itself and you loose all possible control over it (perhaps the lights and horn work). If you hve damage on, and have carried a bit of damage, the some more damage will be added to your car, but mostly nothing to worry about.

3.Respecting the restart question, as NewWheel said, i didn't quite understand, but he answered the question right.

Just wanted to tell you that you are most welcome here at RacerPlanet, if you have ANY questions regarding anything, you may feel free to post them here, i'm sure we can help you. And when you have a good set of mods and think of yourself as a good driver, you may want to visit the longe and join some races, so you can experience some real racing.

If you have any doubts you might check my site and inform yourself a bit: NFS:PU Warehouse (http://www.nighttraveler.nfscity.com)

Have fun!

Thanks very much for all of your responses I am in evolution so that explains the no restart option. As for race starts It is a technique that I have to work on and I was just curious if I was waisting my time trying to work on my initial launching of the car.

Took me awhile to get starts perfect. Even now i make mistakes. But i've pretty much mastered it. I can usually get off the line just as quick as the AI or pretty closely. But i still need to work on the rest of the race. :D I usually keep it under the rpm that wheelspin starts, then smoothy press down the gas to get the perfect amount of traction and wheelspin. My technique seems to work good online when playing against the pros. But once i get to the first corner they fly by me. :(
