hey all :)
There will be 2nd PROL Championship soon, and i'd like to know your opinions about new rules. They aren't completed yet, but main idea is ready. I just need some additional detailed info to complete rules. Also i'm trying to get special prizes for the winners.

I decided to change competition scheme compare 1st PROL championship to make championship more attractive and "open". As basis i took [SS]HangTen's idea of [SS]GT3 Cup, and modified it a bit. So, here is "guidelines":

There will be competition period (startin in February), and all participants should race pre-defined combos on-line (vs at least one opponent in the pit). They may race these combos so many times as they want - only fastest time result will be counted. All races results will accumulate in TOTAL time. Winned will be determined by this total time result at the end of championship period.

There will be NO any registration - people will be able to join championship till "deadline" date (few days before the end of championship period).

There will be 14 tracks in the championship - each track once. Direction of the tracks will be determined by rules. Any racer may race mirrorred directions if he/she wants (there is no differences between fwd and fwd/mirr for example).

There will be 3 stock cars only. All are 356 Porsches :) One is '56 356A SuperSpeedster (in honour of 50th Anniversary), and 2 356B Porsches (not determined yet).

Like in previous championship, Collisions will be OFF, Damages will be ON.

Here is an example of the combos list:

Cote D'Azur_________bwd___56 356 Super Speedster
Schwarzwald_________fwd___356B - 1
Pyrenees____________bwd___356B - 2
Alps________________fwd___56 356 Super Speedster
Autobahn____________bwd___356B - 1
Auvergne____________fwd___356B - 2
Normandie___________bwd___56 356 Super Speedster
Zone Industrielle___fwd___356B - 1
Monte Carlo 1_______bwd___356B - 2
Monte Carlo 2_______fwd___56 356 Super Speedster
Monte Carlo 3_______bwd___356B - 1
Monte Carlo 4_______fwd___356B - 2
Monte Carlo 5_______bwd___56 356 Super Speedster
Corsica_____________fwd___356B - 1

If you have any questions or suggestions - put it here ;)

well... just got one new idea from one racer ;)

This is idea of SuperFINAL - 8 best by total time racers should race 8-races final in one full pit together. Every racer pick "his" combo with one restricion only - car has to be 356 or Spyder. There is points system in final and Absolute champion determined by these points and may be get special prize.

Sounds good Denis. :)

Good luck with the planning of the new competition. :)

It is much the same as the XR team challenge was last spring/summer. we based it on rally type times.

I like the idea but i dont like the Idea of the time element because then it is exactly what i hated about pu. Stat hunting. I think a points based system that would incorporate points for finishing positions would be better than basing it off of times. When you use the time method you get 1 person racing everyone for weeks at a time at the same track with the same car and it doesnt show who the best racer is just the most persistant and usually the one with the most time to play. I also am not much into the stock only thing.

I hope you dont take my post the wrong way as i think this is really a good idea. I just figured I would give my opinion.

Sean, thanks for you opinion. And I'd like to explain several moments (will be glad if you offer something to solve this problems):

Why total times? As it seems to me, if we'll have "point system" people anyway keep "stat" hunting same as for total times. Principle will be the same - as better your best time on the combo, then you have more points and higher position in standings. Or ... may be i understood you wrong, Sean? Did you mean "finishing positions" same as we had in 1st PROL championship based on duels?

About stock/mod... it's difficult question in fact. Primary target is to make championship ... hmm... how to say it in english ... "union" maybe? I mean all participants should compete each other. We had classes in 1st PROL championship, and there were situations some racers never raced some opponents just becouse one raced stock only, other - mods only. While we have PRIZES for winners in this championship, i don't think keeping classes same as we had in PROL-1 is good idea.
Why stock? Well... All racers have them ;) And just look at PROL-1 stats: stock class was more popular :)

Yep i am saying points for finishing positions not for times.

with the time method you have to allow a certain amount of time as a par so to speak. and then have to penalize those who do not run the track instead of giving them par times. We did almost this exact thing in a challenge in the XR team. but having such a broad based race with 356 and many tracks would let people just run and run till they get that perfect run. doesnt matter that the other 150 times they run it they either dont finish the race or they lose very badly. This situation based on times makes it a mediocracy and allows those who are not good enough to beat some of the other players steadily to get that chance for one good runto beat everyone. in my opinion racing should be a once and done situation unless you are stat hunting. race and win or race and lose. you dont get 1000 shots at a great time in real racing.

here would be my ideal way to set up a Pro challenge. I would get the people to sign up by a certain time. After that i would randomly pick the players out of a hat and assign them a number. then i would set up a bracket making sure that everyone raced everyone in their division 1 time. Total the results and take the top few (figure maybe 8) and start a next round bracket - take it to four then 2 then the winner.

now if you want to get really involved you can take the win loss and make that some sort of a multiplyer to the total time the person had. and use that to determine by runs or in this game prehaps car or track preference to the person with the best record. alot can be done. I starting coming up with all sorts of things back when EA was going to close the servers the first time. I will have to dig into my bag of tricks and see what i might have written down.

Please again dont feel like i am putting this down in any way. I feel it is a great thing but like most things it can be as simple or as complex as you feel like making it.

well, we had "finish position" system in 1st PROL Championship - but i think you know there were not so many races as it could be... :( So, i don't think now "long-term" competition between many people from different countries with "finish positions" system is good idea enough... Finish position system is great for one-day-tournaments, like SSC was. And as far as we have "total" time, i don't think "average" racer will be able to complete all 14 tracks with lucky time results. If he will do it - then he isn't "average" :)
But i do agree, finish positions system is much more "fair" for competitions. That's why i liked idea of superfinal very much. And i think i'll add this "superfinal" to the rules. And btw, superfinal winner will get special "main" prize ;)

Just one notice: there will be TOP-7 racers in superfinal. 8th spot will be reserved for "host guest" for case if nobody of 7 finalists won't have good connection enough for hosting full pit.

that is a very good idea about the 7 racers with 1 host. i am sure it will go over well. Good luck to you and the PRO Tour!

Take care bud.

Seems my IP won't let me join a game with more than 3 or 4 players..

Let's hope I can get it working better, and try this fun competition. If I have time. ;)

hey Warren! As far as i know IP can't have such effect ;)
Yes, your dial up connection allow you to host up to 4 racers only (lags otherwise), but as for join... no any restriction should be...

Can you tell more detailed HOW it happens for you?
