STILL can't get NFS5 to run on XP :-(

Hi guys,

I've been trying to some time now, but I can't get NFS5 to run on my win XP computer. I have tried to do the following but my PU still won't work!:

- Turning off Virtual Memory.

- Renaming the Gimme.DLL file

- Setting the Porsche.EXE to run in different OS modes

- Changing my new drivers (nVIDIA) to older versions (nVIDIA has the 5X.X ones, im down to 3X.X and still wont work).


Nothing works! I have the 3.5 patch installed, I recall well that a while ago when i first installed XP on this computer, PU did run during the first days, then I didnt play it anymore for a few weeks and now that im tyring to come back, it wont work, I don't know if I changed something or what's going on.

HERE'S what happens: I load up PU normally, I get to the main menu, and when I go on either single player or multiplayer mode, I select my car and everything. THEN, as soon as I click "RACE", I hear the "vrooom" sound and all of a sudden, i'm back at the desktop, I don't get to se any loading screen or anything, it just instantaneously goes to the desktop and I see the desktop set at like a 800x600 resolution for about 5 seconds, before it jumps back to 1152x864 or so (which is the resolution im running at).

Help!! I need help..


Specs:

- 1GHz AMD Athlon Processor
- Windows XP Home Edition OEM
- 39GB HD
- 320MB SDRAM pc133
- nVIDIA GeForce 2 Ti 64MB DDR-RAM (drivers: v30.82)


What should I do?? im close to giving up, geez I miss this game..

I see you tried turning your virtual memory off , did you also try setting the min/max to either 256 or 512 ? With the amount of ram you have , I would try setting it to 256 first ( remember , both min AND max , in effect making it a static size ) . You shouldn't need to set the .exe to a compatibility mode in any case .

No luck,

I set the Min to 256 and the max to 512 and it didn't work :(

I even tried setting the range of

Min: 256
Max: 320

and didnt work either.

What's wrong? Why do I get kicked back to the desktop??

No no no no no no no no no Neo :nono:

Set the min AND the max to the SAME size , starting with 256

min page file size : 256
max page file size : 256

Get rid of all that other stuff you did , uninstall the game , make sure its completely out of everything ( registry , folders, etc etc ) .

reinstall the game , repatch it to 3.5 and give it a shot.

IF you still get kicked to the desktop after that , I would guess its the nvidia driver set you are using , but try this first k ?

It worked !

Well, sort of...

I think I discovered why was getting booted back to the desktop: I renstalled everything and backed up my savegame persona while I was reinstalling everything, putting the patch, installing the 4 cars, updating my nvidia drivrs, and of course, setting the virtual memory to 256. Once everything was installed, I dcided to make a quick persona and see if the game ran. It did, it started perfectly fine and everything. SO, then I opened up my SaveGame folder and moved my persona files back in there and ran the game again. Boom, I got kicked right back to my desktop again once I clicked Race...

Damn, my persona is corrupt! :-( I have all my saved games there, my car settings, heck, all of my cars that took me a hella time to customize and tweak :'( What can I do? Is there any progrm that can repair damaged persona files??

For corrupted persona's , you'd have to talk to Chey , I believe , or possibly Remmy ( the answer man ) . Chey used to talk about a persona editor I * think * . OOOOOOOhhhhhhhh Cchhhhheeeeeyyyyyyy ~*:o

Verstingen: PU should run fine in ME...but to help you we need motre information about your PCs configuration etc. especially what graphics card yu use

My graphics card is 16 MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra.

long time no post here, but seeing as this never got fixed.

Remove the read only attrib, backing up to most media adds a read only attrib so remove it and then it'll work again
