So, what is your favourite racing sim you've purchased recently?
I've tested a few recently, and some were okay (NFS:U). But I just got F1 Challenge 99-02. I thought, oh yeah I'd just get it for the mods, but I happened to try the F1 cars just by chance, the 2001 cars, around the old Hockenheimring.
And I've hardly stopped since. ;)
Man is that thing fun. I only leave clutch assistance and traction control on low (can still slide, but not quite so wildly). The sounds of the car from the in-car camera are awesome, just about totally perfect, from the wind noise, the scream of the engine, and the popping and crackling of the traction control taking effect.
Just wonderful.
I'm still some way off the AI's pace at 100% difficulty and 100% aggressiveness, but there must be some more speed to be found in the setups. &(
The only trouble I had was the installer would not complete, stopping somewhere after the 100% point, and refusing to finish installing, leaving no desktop icon and so on.

im 100% with you, its a pretty awesome game.
i took it to my mates place the other day and we downloaded the V8 mod and did one race but then just went oh stuff it and played F1 instead, mainly because of the limited teams in beta2 but also because the F1s are just as much or even more fun.
other than that the last racing sim i got was V8 Challenge so yeah... ^_^

I have a few new ones but my puter is not good enough to run them  hopefully it will run the new Challenge 99-02 as some of the mods for it look great
so my fav is still PU

Wello just reminded me too, it is true, F1C 99-02 runs so much faster in game than F12002. The frame rates are much better. (Hit CTRL+F and it will show you the frame rates).
If anyone is finding the F1 cars difficult, see this link:

That will explain so much stuff. I worked out much of it anyhow without the guide, but reading that guide confirmed some things that I suspected, and made me aware of a few other things I didn't really understand fully.

I am playing the TPTCC mod for Nascar Racing 2003. The Corvettes and Mustangs are really fun on the road courses :)
I play the ETCC mod for F1 Challenge 99-02 and sometimes drive the F1 cars as well.
I play Live for Speed and the new MTR open-wheeler released for Christmas is pure fun. It is powered by a motorcycle engine and is basically a Go Kart. The slides through corners are absolutely brilliant.
However, my main game remains GPL and I am driving the just-released Lakeside track. As the actual track is in Brisbane and as I have been there many times, the joy of being able to drive it is incredible :D

PS: My Hyperstim is supposed to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. I am really getting excited now ;)

Live For Speed.
Its the only game play at the moment - i bought CM3 but played it only for a day...waste of money :-((
The devs of LFS has added a new car recently, a real car from the McGillis racing team. So now im trying to keep up with that one hehe.

Play with the wings/downforce and gearing is important too.
Just like in PU, if you lower your downforce your speed will increase, but you *will* lose some handling.
Try and find a 'happy medium' between acceleration and speed, you need to be able accelerate quickly out corners but still have a reasonable top speed and rememebr the settings for every track will be different, so write them down!
No, I don't have the game, but I have an older F1 game and it works there too ;)
Most recently, aside from NFS:U which I am enjoying the offline section of immensly, Midnight Club 2 would have to be the game that I have played the most.
I'm definately going to go and grab a copy of F1 C 99-02 shortly though, I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about it, so it's probably worth shelling out the dollars for it ;)

F1 99-02, even I can drive the F1 cars now :")
ETCC mod; best reality-feeling ever -^ (I try to "get rid" of the very loose tail on the 156 GTA :")
e.g when driving Sonoma I can drive 1.19 after 10 laps practice, I did same time with Alfa 147 :D
MBWR; the best semi-sim engine these days IMO, great reality regarding speed-feeling ;) , hope for MP patch to come out soon.

Work has kept me from racing for a while now, but while Christmas shopping I found a copy of Rally Trophy in the bargain bin for $3.99 and have been trying it out. So far I am really enjoying the "Dukes of Hazzard" driving style.:)
MB WR & F1 99-02 are the most recent ones.
I like MB WR the most, a hardcore-railer like me gets in to
serious problems with F1 games:") :") :")
Sliding in MB WR is very fun, a also find the handling of the different cars is if not simlike at least far better than for instance NFS HP2 & the NFS U demo. The sceneries are just stunning :jawdrop:
F1 99-02 must one of the best F1 sims, if not the best.
I agree that the engine sounds are just great, i also like the racing feeling and the feel of speed. Another thing i like is that
it is very sensitive to how much you push the car in the corners.
U have to be very precise. Grafics are so and so.
Also have TOCA RD, great fun, but i hate the agressivness of
the AI drivers.

Yeah, you must be precise with the steering inputs. Just cranking on a huge amount of steering lock doesn't work. You've got to gently drive the car through the corners.
I've been attacking Monza, and I'm not doing too bad. The Ferrari F2002 is a lovely car to drive, sweetly balanced and very quick down the straights.
I know that graphically it can do better, so the standard graphics don't concern me greatly. Just a matter of what textures you use.
The possibility of 24 hour races is a nice one. It will darken the sky even.

Recently I got Colin McRae rally 2, and it's the one i've been playing the most, also got HP2, it SUCKS!! and has a VERY low frame rate. concerning the F1 games, definitely the F1C 99-02 is the best. After CMR2 it's NFSPU

F1C is my favorite of the recent driving games i've played.
The drift mode in NFSU is alot of fun too.

I haven't bought a racing game (or any game) in a while. Currently the only racing game I play is GT3...
I got the demo of MBWR and it is stunning, I haven't pulled my finger out and got f1c but I will when i get the money I guess, also if I ever see it at EB (they never seem to have it in so that really helps me)

I grabbed a copy at Harvey Norman.
I never usually buy things there, since they are often expensive, but I was looking at various other things at various different stores, and I saw it, the price was reasonable (AUD$69.95), so I thought what the heck.
The MBWR is unbelievable. What they did is nothing short of amazing. The richness of the environments in it is amazing.

The only recent game I bought is Mercedes Benz World Racing. Simply amazing -^ It's the first game since Nascar Racing 2003 and, last year, F12002 (which I never played - only the GTR mod)
After I gave MBWR to a friend of mine who couldn't buy online, I'm waiting for the second copy to come by mail :D
Since when I installed it, I'm hardly playing anything else, also because I don't have much time anyway...the only exception is NFS-PU now that RS team has released the IP Racing Lounge
And, of course, ther's always SCGT for the saturday night racing ;) But it's not more that 2 hours per week, 1 hour training, 1 hour race.

Turbo mod, BTR? endurance challenge, Lemans 2002, GTR2002 for F12002
I just recently got the F1C'99-'02 game but haven't played with it, got the HTCC2003 mod for it. I saw at that bhmotorsports site all the good mods that are being worked on and got the game because of that.

I've got Grand Prix 3 and while I know its old and the graphics are pretty ordinary but its modded to 2002 spec and the physics are just perfect. I love the amount of control you have over the car, the way it understeers and oversteers exactly the way I imagine a real F1 car would. And You can do the best burnouts in any game I've ever played! Still 850hp and 18000rpm the tyres are at the mercy of your right foot/up arrow on keyboard. Well worth the $30 AUS I paid for it even if GP4 and F1C are better.
