All of you know of our standard caption contest, but here is chance for all of you who have not received a prize as of yet to rope in that NFS:U box for yourself! I won't do it. bogs 12-12-2003, 08:52 AM Just out of curiousity , Vic , What makes you think they shut down MCO for NFS u ? I thought they shut down MCO because it wasn't making any money , and indeed was costing them money to run it, much like PU . After all , I would seriously have to doubt that if MCO were even doing slightly better than breaking even they would have shut it down , as you dont generally speaking throw out money makers . SkyBum 12-12-2003, 12:58 PM I've been told it had a lot to do with all of the scamming etc. going on at eBay. Liability and such. I'm sure there were many other factors involved but the eBay thing was definitely a large part of the decision. If I can find that post again I'll repost it here.... MATT 12-12-2003, 02:22 PM If I'm not mistaken, NFSU is similar to HP2... except this time it's not a gamespy-run thing. It's EA's own (obviously, you need an EA.com account!). It doesn't require as much as MCO did either (you're not buying cars and parts through the servers... and the billions of other things that were all central on MCO's servers). I somehow doubt this is what shut MCO down. MCO was knocked off because, as bogs said, it wasn't making enough money to justify it staying online. And after they made the closure announcement, an enormous amount of people quit, so there really was no hope. Populations were about dead at the end. If there was any hope of keeping it online through EA, it was dead after that day. Erm, anyway, I had to go out and pay full price for the game! You would think after all this time working on a website promoting NFS games I could at least get a free copy of something in the series! lol.. aw well. DJC-Grafix 12-12-2003, 04:04 PM Originally posted by Cadillac Still cheating? ~snicker~ Good to see some support from EA to one of the most reputable NFS fan sites around... Dont worry DPK, we know who you are and what NFSC means, we're behind you.. DJC :racer: Justin Martin 12-12-2003, 05:56 PM I think Caddy was joking, but given the recent stuff on the official forums, I suppose it wouldn't be funny. ;) meinherr 12-12-2003, 07:25 PM Hey Caddy , STILL Pissed about EA DUMPING NFSPU for that Kiddie Arcade PS NFSU Game ? I AM ! :'( Mickk 12-13-2003, 08:40 AM On the subject of NFS:U, I suggest that instead of saying that the game is a P.O.S, see if a friend has a copy and ask if you can have a go or borrow the the game for a few days. No risk to you, no money spent and you will be able to make an informed decision about the game. One thing I must say is that the off-line side of the game is a blast. I almost spend more time making my car/s look good than I do actually racing and the 'go fast' bits that you unlock along the way are pretty nice too and they *do* make a difference! What I would like to see EA (or another company) do is release a racing game that combines all of the good things from NFS:U & NFS:PU, plus have a 'city' where the tracks are based, so that when you are racing, you can go your own path, like 'Midnight Club 2'. I recommend you get your hands on a copy Caddy, you'll like it a lot, I think ;) Add to that a 'pit' situation, similar to PU, but with a larger typing buffer, say twice as big, plus the must have bit, IP racing, so we don't *have* to log into a server to race! |
