Ok, I am used to seeing Molson XXX at the beer store, with 7.3 % alc/vol. , but today I was shocked when I saw a new strain of Black Label featuring 10% alc/vol. I think Canadian brewers are getting a bit carried away, don't you? :?

Ok, I just was at the beer store and tried a sample of this 10% beer. It is not bad; far superior to other high alcohol beers. This one was strong alright, but at least it didn't taste like someone just added vodka to standard beer, much like Big Bear or whatever. I think it should go over well with the hobos, but it isn't something I would buy on a regular basis, that's for sure. &(

When I was growing up in Ottawa in the 80's we used to sneak accross the river to Hull, Quebec to pick up cases of Molson Brador. At that time it had a very high alcohol content (10% seems right). Taste, well, not so much :ack: , but kick whoooo-yeah. :drunk:

And it came in a stubby.

Cheers

Heh, 10% is pretty darn strong - I figured it was the usual "40's" that had that strength, the paint stripper that younger folks (edit: or the homeless/hobo type folk) drink ;)

I'm pretty much drinking Keiths at the moment, with liquor every so often - if I'm at the bar I'd go for a draught Guinness/Rickards Red or something like that, to be honest, I've no idea of the strength of them all, I'd say maybe just 4-5% - but so long as the taste is OK :p

I've drank Molson Ex. quite a bit before, but it's not normally what I'd drink.

I wonder if I can pick up a sample/single of the black label.

I drank some Hemp Beer the other day at a Wine/Food festival, and actually that wasn't too bad at all - I was expecting it to taste like shit too, heh.

Hemp beer? Man, that does sound like it would taste terrible, but it's not bad you say? Interesting.

Depending on what is in my wallet, I too prefer darker maltier ales. I like Big Rock stuff, but my favorite has to be this stuff called Bruno's. I did a demo of it a few years ago for The Peak Brewery in Canmore, and it was AMAZING beer! I don't know if they even make it anymore, it's been a while since I have seen it on the shelf. But yeah, the normal 5% is good enough for me, just menas I can drink more without getting all hammered.
