Well you could try and get an early start on 2004 mod, or something. So if we can try to find pictures of the new VZ Commodore and during the silly season if we keep a look at for new livery and new driver/team combination, we could have the 2004 mod out by mid-2004, that is if we all work together

they wont be using the VZ as it wont come out for ages - well not in time for the 2004 season anyways, it will be used for 2005 but

August 2004 its coming out (well August 2003 has passed us)
They always do it, they will never race a new model car so late in the year.
The BA was released ages before Bathurst 2002, which was in October 2002, but you didnt see any team with a BA until 2003
It might be rules, it might be as the teams need time to purchase a new car with the new shell or convert an old one?
I mean this year HRT's VY's were the old VX converted to a VY. Kelly got the first proper VY then Skaife and that wasnt till mid year. I think you'd find in the time between August 2004 when its released and February 2005 when they release there liveries the teams spend time either converting an old car or buying a new one
I might be wrong but so far the teams use the new car beginning the next year

but didnt in 1999 (or 2000) Holden change from the VS to VT mid-season??????

In 1999 Lowndes had that massive roll in his new VT as Calder, so he had no option but to race his old VS Commodore while they built a new VT.
Although I read somewhere in the 2003 rules a team is permitted to update to a new spec car, i.e. AU to BA or VX to VY or whatever, but they cant go back i.e. SBR cant go from their BA back to an AU (crap now Holden has no chance)

Ok so what your saying about 1999 seems reasonable but i doubt that Lowndes crashed to VT's
1998 CRAIG LOWNDES HOLDEN COMMODORE VS/VT
http://www.v8supercar.com.au/resource/recordbook/serieschamp/record_90s.htm
See in 1998 Lowndes switched from the VS to VT and you said the VT came out in 1999 and not 1998.
So next year some of the leading Holden teams (HRT and CPR i most liekly think) will have new VZ's proberly before the car is even released so i am predicting by June

Mickcals, the VT come out late 1997, I know this for a fact as our VS Commodore is one of the last off the production line and its late 1997 (cant remember what month but I can check).
No team switched to the VT in 1997 when it come out.
They did in 1998, which is what that there shows. I dont know why they didnt go straight into VT's, quite possibly as the VT was still being prepared as it was completely different to the previous VS and had come out late 1997.
Bear in mind thats only Lownde's car thats mentioned, the teams may have used VT's off the block while HRT prepared Lowndes, I dont know
In 1999 Lowndes was in the VT but rolled it. By "New" VT I mean HRT brought a brand new VT and gave Skaife, Lowndes old one. I am only guessing but maybe Skaifes #2 VT was the teams first VT then Lowndes #1 VT come along later (thus why he was in a VS firstly), and so by 1998 the #2 VT was older then the #1 so they sold the original #2, brought a new VT and gave that to Lowndes and his old one got given to Skaife.
Teams do it all the time, you never know but. I think your getting confused with the "new" concept. As I said, by "new" it possibly means this ... (this is just an example)
HRT #2 VT - built say Feb 1998
HRT #1 VT built say July 1998
mid 1999 HRT buys a new VT, which becomes the new HRT #1 so ..
HRT #1 - built June 1999
which means there left with 2 VT's, one built in Feb and one built in July, so HRT sells the one built in Feb and swaps it with the one built July.
Anyway the point is Lowndes rolled his VT and had to revert back to the VS while they built a new VT
I might have to explain it to you in person as its hard to explain in text

I think this thread has gone off the wall for stupidity
1998 CRAIG LOWNDES HOLDEN COMMODORE VS/VT
He started in VT until he crashed it and had to use a VS, why is that so confusing? (because y2k got off track...like craig did :loco: :racer: )

Thats why

thats correct BUT
what he wants to know is why was Craig in a VS and VT in 1998??
Because he obviously started in a VS then went to a VT in 1998
He then rolled the VT in 1999 and had to go back to a VS temporarily
Now Mickcals was confused as I said
In 1999 Lowndes had that massive roll in his new VT which is where the confusion come in, and all I was trying to explain was HRT had 2 VT's, but brought a NEW VT in 1999 to replace Skaife's Ageing VT (which was the teams first VT)
Bascially in a nutshell
Late 1997 - VT was released. NO team ran the VT (as what we're trying to discuss)
1998 - Skaife got the teams first VT
-Lowndes begain in a VS, then got a VT
1999 - lowndes has a VT still but Skaife;s is older, so HRT buy a new VT, give the new one to Lowndes, give Lownde's one to Skaife and sells Skaifes VT as it was the olders
- shortly after being given the new VT Craig rolls it, meaning he has to go back to a VS
Thats why we're confused
The VS-VT thing is much like last year where the BA falcon came out in Sep/Oct 2002. No teams ran the BA late in the year (and probably wont dare to), so they left it to 2003 to start out.

That was because only the standard BA Falcon was released, while the XR's came out in Jan/Feb. Plus Ford didnt have the body shells avialable for the teams to switch anyway
I remeber in 1997 they were talking about the VT beign used in racing and they had to do some major reworkign whcih took a lot of the off season, and they started at the start of 1998 with a vt.
Big v8 racing teams udate their cars every year with new shell because even tho they update the part through the year, the body still gets old and rues change every year, they alsop sell their cars off to ovther teams every year, hence y some teams have last years cars that big teams have so they have a chance.

spot on VQ, spot on.
Even teams like HRT who might own say a VY Commodore in 2003 go in 2004 and buy a brand new VY, its like if I buy a VY SS in 2003 and another VY SS in 2004, I have 2 VY SS:)
