I rent a unit (aka apartment) which had recently been put on the market. I have lived here for 3.5 years and quite liked it.

Anyway, I was told on Monday that the unit was sold and I have been released from my lease as the new owners want to move in as soon as possible.

Yesterday I found out that the unit next to mine is going to be available from this coming weekend so I told the estate agent that I would take it :)

Now all I have to do is move all my stuff into the unit next to mine - a distance of a few feet :D At least it will give me an opportunity to do a major cleanup and throw out all the junk I tend to accummulate.

The biggest hassle is getting all my mail sorted out and getting my phone reconnected.

Dave

PS - the big bonus is that the rent on the new unit is less :D

Sign a lease, and make sure the lease requires that the landlord provides a new MOMO as a condition of the lease. That way you can have your cake and eat it too!

Have fun and recall some important info. At the risk of quoting one of my old co-workers...
"A move is worth 2 good fires!"

I have organised to rent both units for a week - overlapping the beginning of one lease with the end of the other. That lets me move my stuff gradually instead of having to rush it. I am also saving heaps on removalist costs :)

Sorry but I'd answer with "Like F#@k!! You need to pay your way out of this lease, just like I would have to if I breeched it."

1/ Not charge you rent effective immediately, ...
2/ Pay the bond and first month (or at least two weeks) rent on the new address and...
3/ Pay the transfer (reconnection) of phone, internet and all utilities (electricity, gas, etc.).

This is really up to the previous landlord(s), not the new one(s) to make ammends.

If the shoe was on the other foot and you wanted to break from the lease, you would be financially responcible for the remaining period of the lease.

I find it amusing when people/corperations in such positions try to make it sound like they are doing you the favour. :nope:

If you need a hand with anything (moving the fridge, lounge, boxes, etc) give me a call and my brother and I will come over. We have both worked together as furniture removalists.

LOL Rob, the landlord is a complete a-hole :) When he put it on the market I asked to be released from the lease so I could move to a nice unit up the street which was available at the time. He wouldn't release me because he thought having a tenant in it would get a better price from people looking for an investment property.

I had to put with weeks of showing buyers through and "open houses" which was a horrible invasion of my privacy as a result.

The Real Estate agents have been on my side all along and tried to negotiate on my behalf. I was talking to a woman from the agency yesterday and we both said what a complete jerk he has been since the beginning.

Apparently the new landlord is a much better and more reasonable person to deal with - fingers crossed.

Shaft the bastard for all you can, he owes that much to you.

He used you then he just shit on you. :boxer:
You're too much of a nice guy, Dave. :nono: No offense mate, but he just thinks of you and other tenants as being "easy" &/or "push-overs".
The real estate agents wouldn't have gone far enough out of their way (if at all) to plead your case. =[

You need "Acca & Co." collection agency 3282 66** :boxer:. :hat:
We also do weddings, parties, anything.

Aside from the issues with the landlord, I hope things go smoothly for you Dave. It sounds like you've set things up well with the overlapping week.

Best of Luck.

PS - I like Dennis' idea of having the landlord throw in a new MOMO as a conciliatory move. And taking up Rob's offer of Dirty Deeds sounds pretty good too. Of course that's as long as they're done dirt cheap. :D

Hehe Rob -^

I'm not that nice. I have had problems with the landlord all along because he is a total tight-arse :(

I have had a little bit of revenge on him over the past few years ;) Let's just say that he didn't get his mail re-directed and I took care of it for him ^_^

Ahh Dave, do you get a new landlord now, or does that AH owns the new place too?

I am happy to have a very nice landlord, I am the most lucky guy, because my landlord takes only 60% of the markedprice in rentals (!!!!!), and also he really wants me to keep on live here as long as I want to :)
Here the rent normally raise together with the comsumeindexing, but my landlord refused to send me a new contract the last 3 years until this summer, so in addition to pay low price at start, the rent has been frozen for 3 years, can you imagine? :)

I bet you don't know many guys who can say "I really like my landlord, bless him" :)
He calls me up 2 times each year, says "excause me for bothering you, but is everything OK in the flat?"
He sounds like he want's me to say "hey, let's refurnish the kithchen and build a balcony", hehehe

So dang sad that most landlords are AH :(

You're a lucky guys Mads :)

Apparently, my landlord is very good. Like I said, the rent is cheaper and the Estate agent said that they have never had any problems with him :)
